We had a beautiful room facing the canal. Staff was helpful and attentive. The lounge with coffee, tea and drinks was a welcome amenity. Breakfasts were excellent.

our second stay

reason way we stay at the bank manson: central location, being in the middle of town. Its easy to walk or ride a bike to most of the locations. (rent a bike from mikes bike tour and the tour is wonderful as well) miniBar and lobby has drinks, very nice cheeses, espresso drinks, and other nice little treats are included into the price. wonderful breakfast and staff the eggs are amazing bedding very nice and shower products too.

A little gem in Amsterdam

A lovely "all-inclusive" hotel, excellent location, just a few minutes away by tram from Central station (if you arrive by train, as we did). Our room was spacious, very comfortable and had a nice view of the canal. The hotel personnel was extremely courteous and helpful and contributed to make our stay memorable.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

For bread lovers, there is a great bakery up the street. Get the exact address at the reception. Also, don’t miss out on the evening snacks offered by the hotel.

Would recommend to anyone

from the moment we walked in the door we felt welcome. from the complementary bar in the lounge to the free WiFi to the helpful folks at the front desk. The rooms were of a good size (we were there for 5 nights so sleeping in a closet sized room was not going to work) and the beds were so comfortable i had to struggle to get out in the morning. breakfast was excellent both the buffet and the made to order eggs. close to everything while still a very quiet location. can’t wait to go back!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

for something fun, check out the handbags and purses museum just a couple of blocks from the hotel.

Very, very happy

I was very pleased with the Banks Mansion. The room was a good size with a comfortable bed, a large bathroom, and an individual thermostat. It was clean and quiet, and I had no trouble sleeping comfortably. I also really enjoyed the concept of the hotel, with the complimentary bar and snacks available both in the room and in the hotel living area, and the free internet access. Obviously as a business they’re making a profit so at some level you’re paying for it anyway, but it really gave the feeling that you were getting value for your money, in addition to being a very comfortable way to relax with the complimentary newspapers for a few minutes in the evenings or on a break from touristing around. Also, the location of the Banks Mansion is great - right on the Herengracht canal near the city center, and within easy walking distance of lots of cool sites. All in all, I was very pleased with the Banks Mansion and would be very happy to stay there again. For what it’s worth, my friend in Amsterdam, who I was visiting, was also very impressed and said after seeing my room, and the hotel more generally, that he would recommend that people visiting him in the future stay there as well. Anyway, I hope you find this review helpful, and I recommend the Banks Mansion if you’re in Amsterdam.

Great stay! Highly recommended!

The Banks Mansion was great. I went there on vacation with my cousin and every time we passed another hotel and peeked inside, she said "Our hotel is better"! The room was perfect. It was maybe small by US standards, but it met our size expectations for Europe - and besides, how much time do you spend in the room!? Most importantly, it was clean and the bed was comfortable. The mini-bar was included in the price. I got a canal side room and the view was very nice. The lobby was bright and had a pleasant decor. There were two computers with free internet access, as well as free wine, beer, sodas, ets. The breakfast was also included in the price, and included a great selection: eggs, omelets, french toast, fruit, cereal, hot and cold meats, cheese, and of course, coffee and juice. The staff was pleasant. The hotel location was great. It was right on the tram line, close to museums, shops, food. One other thing I will note: the photos on Expedia (as of 4/09) are really what the hotel looks like. Sometimes you see the photos and it looks great... then you get there and realize they must have been taken 10 years ago! That was not the case here... what you see is what you get... and that’s a good thing!

Traveler's tip

The only thing I would point out to US travelers is that in Europe, you apparently have to specify if there will be 1 or 2 ppl in the room. I chose the dbl vs the single room assuming that meant 2 but when we arrived, they said the reservation was for 1 & we had to pay extra. I had made the hotel reservation with my cousin’s flight so I had only selected 1 adult. However, in the US, hotels don’t charge more for 2 ppl vs 1 (do they?) and I DID select the dbl room, which cost more than the single.

Best ever stay in Amsterdam

This hotel was amazingly beautiful, comfortable, and convenient. It is just down the street from Dam Square and literally straight down the street from central station. The hotel was sooo quiet considering it was on a main road. We loved the canal view of our room. The breakfast was spectacular with made to order items.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Rent a bike for the day and ride around. We were there over New Year’s in the freezing cold and still enjoyed biking around town for the day.

Friendly, generous, but not luxury service

Banks Mansion has friendly, helpful staff and provides free coffee and alcoholic drinks as well as afternoon snacks and a fire in the cozy lobby. Our room was small, but quiet. We had no hot water one morning, though the problem was fixed by the end of the day. The location is perfect, close to canals, museums, restaurants, public transport, etc. The breakfast was generous and good quality. All in all, a really nice place to stay, with friendly guests and staff. Not as fancy or luxurious as the website suggests, but definitely better than most moderately-priced hotels.

Traveler's tip

If you want to ride on the canal taxi boats, make sure that you start at a place as far from Central Station as possible, so you’ll see more sights before having to disembark or go back in the same direction. Pack warm clothes and raingear, even in the summer!

gracious and quiet

We stayed 2 nights in room 211. It was big and quiet-no view but otherwise perfect. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Comps in the room and lobby were very appreciated( liquor, mixers, wine, snacks, apples, coffee). Breakfast was more than adequate and we would stay there again. The surrounding area was convenient museums and flower market;not as frantic as the area around the train station.

Great Location and Great Staff

The pictures on the website don’t do justice to Banks Mansion! From the time you walk through the doors, you feel the hospitality. Although the rooms are slightly small, they are nicely appointed and very clean. The entire staff was extremely pleasant and treated every guest as if they were very special. I also enjoyed the morning breakfast. A hearty meal in the morning made my day that more enjoyable. The location is perfect! Not only is the hotel located on a wonderful canal, you can walk to just about all the major tourist attractions. The overall neighborhood was vibrant during the day, and peaceful at night. I have found my future Amsterdam hotels stays at Banks Mansion.

Traveler's tip on dining

Within a 5 minute walking radius of Banks Mansion, you will find whatever type of food you desire. No need to get recommendations for restaurants, there are so many that look great, you’ll want to sample them all.

A Gem Among Many

We were so pleased with our stay at the Banks Mansion that we wanted to make sure to review the hotel as soon as we returned. We traveled to the Hague and then on to Amsterdam for one night for my husband to speak at a conference. We checked Expedia for a hotel and decided on the Banks Mansion. Not only was the location fantastic, but the service was excellent, the mini-bar in the room was complimentary, they had complimentary refreshments and snacks in the lobby each afternoon as well as free Internet use on their two computers. We selected our favorite pillows from their "Pillow Menu" and went to a fantastic Italian restaurant "Casa Di David" recommended by the concierge. Really a superb experience. We travel alot and have before to Amsterdam but will only stay here the next time we visit.

What a Hotel!

Banks Mansion was perfect. The location was ideal. It is situated on a lovely section of a beautiful canal, yet, is a short walk to a lot of attractions. The rooms were very nice, and quiet (and ours was actually very near the elevator, which I normally try and avoid.) The bathroom was huge, and had a tub, which was nice after walking all day. The breakfast served was great. Lots of fruit, many choices of breads, eggs, pancakes, meats and cheese. The entire staff was very helpful. Unlimited snacks and drinks were a definate bonus!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

I loved the Museum Amstelkring, or Lord of the Attics. It was a small church hidden up small stairs in an attic.

Stunning! Stunning! Stunning!

This is without doubt one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. It is perfectly located, walking distance from every major attraction in Amsterdam, clean and comfortable, despite the rooms not being very big, with a free guest bar and minibar. But what really makes this hotel stand out is the impeccable service and friendliness of the staff. The banks Mansion is much more than just an excellent hotel. It is the absolute best value for your money.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Ask your hotel to book tickets for the Anne Frank Museum and avoid the long queues.

Like Home Away from Home

Our stay at the Banks Mansion was one of the most delightful in our many hotel experiences. The room was well designed and comfortable. The bathroom was spa-like. Watching Wimbledon from a hot bath is not a bad way to spend a couple of vacation hours. The hotel staff was knowledgeable and helpful with information about restaurants and sights and day trips. Breakfast was yummy with omelets cooked to order. And the snacks and drinks in the lobby were welcome and welcoming. We would (and hopefully will) return gladly for another more than comfortable stay. And will look for affilitated hotels for other trips.

Will definitely return and have suggested it to friends who are going to stay there.

Great hotel, great service. Free breakfast, drinks and snacks were a huge plus, especially in light of the exchange rate. Excellent friendly and helpful staff made our stay much more enjoyable. Location is key. Less than a 10-minute walk to Mike’s Bikes rentals and same to Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum.

Excellent Hotel!

The Banks Mansion was completely perfect. The staff was more than helpful and very friendly. There were never ending beverages and snacks in the lobby 24 hours a day including several diffent kinds of liquor, sodas, juices and even a cappuccino machine. There were also plenty of chairs to sit comfortably and relax while enjoying your drink of choice. Two computers were also available in this area with internet access. The hotel was easily within walking distance to anything you would want to see or do in the city. The hotel staff was always more than happy to point us in the right direction when we began our journey for the day. The room was beautifully decorated and the beds were very comfortable with a pillow menu sitting on the bed upon arrival so you could choose which pillow would be most comfortable during the stay. The view of the canals from the room was also beautiful! The bathroom was a good size and had a separate large shower a tub. They also had DVD’s that could be borrowed from the front desk if you wanted to just relax and watch a movie one evening. I would definetly stay here again if I came back to Amsterdam!

Traveler's tip on dining

Try the chinese restaurant across the street! The food was excellent and they made excellent cocktails! Although we were never dissapointed in any of the restaurants that we tried. Rule of thumb...just walk in and sit at any open table. The server will come to you. Also, when you want your check, you will have to ask for it. They never want to rush you out and will let you sit there all night if you want to.

Absolutely Wonderful!

I was very impressed by this hotel - the service was excellent. All of the staff were friendly and helpful - I almost felt like we were all friends by the end of the trip! The lobby and rooms are gorgeously decorated. The access to the internet and unending supply of free drinks is superb! Above all, the breakfast was the best part of the hotel - made-to-order pancakes, french toast and omelettes, as well as a wide variety of other types of foods. I would recommend this hotel to everyone - the location, staff and accommodations are perfect!
