What to expect: This downtown hotel is adjacent to the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site, the city's most famous attraction. The star-shaped Citadel, completed in 1856, stands on a hilltop overlooking the harbor. In keeping with the historic theme, the hotel's doormen and bell staff are outfitted in kilts during the peak visitor season, from May to October. Guests appreciate the hotel's central location, fitness facilities, and pet-friendly policy.

Insider tip: To fully appreciate this historic seafaring city, hop aboard the Halifax Harbour Ferry. Established in 1752, it's the oldest continuous saltwater passenger-ferry service in North America. Today, it serves commuters and visitors year-round. The scenic ride from downtown Halifax to Dartmouth takes about 12 minutes and costs C$2 (subject to change). The ferry terminal is three blocks from the hotel.

This hotel is adjacent to the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site, the Halifax Metro Centre, and the convention center. The harborfront Historic Properties, three blocks away, houses an enticing array of shops and cafés in restored buildings from the late 1700s and early 1800s. The Link, a network of climate-controlled pedestrian walkways, begins across the street from the hotel.
