A Shabby Hotel
The rooms heating never got above 65; the elevator service went out for hours; the rooms carpet was coming away from the floor. It was a shabby and unmaintained property with an indifferent staff. Avoid.

A Central Location for Restaurants and Sights
The Latham is a little gem in the heart of Philadelphia. The hotel staff is very knowledgeable about their City and is there for advice and directions. The rooms are quiet and well maintained and are available at good rates. If you travel with a computer the wireless network is great for Macs or PCs. The hotel can arrange for a broad range of transportation needs, especially the Lady Liberty Shuttle that gets you to the airport at less than half the rate of a Taxi. The Latham is a solid, safe place to use for a stay of any length in Philadelphia.
There are great restaurants on Locust, just a few blocks to the South and East of the Latham. Estia is a Greek restaurant with a good solid menu. If you walk a little further to Broad Street there are more eateries to the South.

Underwhelmed
The front desk clerk could not be bothered to call Federal Express in order for my package to be picked up, which required I call my administrative assistant back home to take care of it. It appeared that the hotel is unaccustomed to dealing with business travelers. In addition, I could not get a statement closing out my incidentals bill. I was told that my Expedial statement was the only statement I would receive, which now requires me to watch my credit card like a hawk for the next several months to ensure that they do not charge me. The service was incredibly poor and unprofessional and I will not be returning. I recommend instead the Palomar, 1/2 block away where my colleague stayed and had a lovely experience.
