Very Historic hotel in prime location
If you are looking for a large expansive room with a king size bed and 10’x10’ bathroom, dont stay here. This hotel is very historic and offers more charm than space. Since I was in Salem for some Halloween fun, this hotel fit the bill. Staff was wonderful and the hotel is extremely quaint and located right down town next to all the festivities. Highly recommended.

Comfortable and convenient
The Hawthorne is an old-fashioned hotel, not a motel or a Sheraton. I found the accommodations quiet and adequate for my one-night visit to Salem. The hotel is quite close to major attractions in Salem. One drawback: no fridge in my room.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
The Peabody Essex museum, recently expanded, is a short walk from the Hawthorne. Ths museum is a must-see. It has remarkable collections of colonial furniture and paintings, early scrimshaw, model ships, far east export items, and a handsome portrait of Nathaniel Hawthorne.
