Great budget friendly hotel
The Mespil is very clean and comfortable. Although its a bit of a walk into the city center (about 15-20 minutes), the walk itself is very pleasant. There are restaurants and pubs in the immediate neighborhood where you can get a bite to eat or a pint. I had read good reviews about The Mespil and therefore chose the hotel as part of a package that we got through Expedia. I would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone.

Nice hotel, not too far from town
First room smelled of smoke in nonsmoking area, but the hotel gave us another room immediately. In a good location with everything needed close by and a decent walk to tourist areas.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Place around the corner makes take-away wraps - very good chicken cesear. We got lunch there and took back o hotel. Also nearby, a place for scones and coffee for an inexpensive breakfast.

Comfortable hotel
The Mespil had comfortable beds, an elevator, friendly employees, and a good shower. Cant ask for much more! This hotel was about 15-20 minutes leisurely walk to the City Center. Also, around the corner was a convenient street with restaurants, bars and shops. I would stay here again.

Great Hotel
We stayed at the Mespil for 4 nights in May 2009. Great hotel: very clean, exceptionally comfortable bed, great price. Loved the free wi-fi. Its a 10 minute walk from Trinity College, in a neighborhood with lots of coffee shops & restaurants. I would definitely stay there again.

Great hotel in a lovely neighborhood
This hotel was excellent! We arrived early (about 10:00 AM) to the hotel, due to the fact that we had taken the red eye. I emailed the staff on the day before we left to inquire about checking in early, or at the very minimum, dropping off our bags. They replied promptly, and even though they couldnt guarantee that a room would be available at that time, we could leave our bags with no problem. We were delighted to find out that they had a room available for us. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and nice. The only negative thing about the room was that the bed was a bit too firm for our personal preference. The restaurant had a delicious breakfast every morning. It was worth the extra money to eat breakfast at the hotel restaurant. The neighborhood was excellent. It is not in the immediate touristy area of the city, but that area is easily accessible by foot, or by a 5 minute cab or bus ride. The pubs, restaurants, and businesses that surround the hotel are great! We really liked the opportunity that we had to be the only tourists in the neighborhood pubs. This allowed us to make friends with the locals (the Irish are the friendliest people in Europe), and to get a truer picture of life in Dublin. We have stayed in the touristy areas before, but preferred this area to Temple Bar or the Grafton Street area. We recommend this hotel to anyone, whether it is their first trip to Dublin or their tenth. We will be back!
Traveler's tip on nightlife
If you are into the pub scene, we highly recommend the pubs on Baggott Street, which is a short walk from the hotel. Toners and ODonoghues are two lovely little gems on that street, which has several pubs. They are not typically visited by tourists, and the locals that hang out in them are some of the friendliest that you will ever meet. Weve been to many pubs in Dublin, and these are our two favorites.

A room with a view
Nice hotel. Courteous staff. The bed is of high quality and absolutely comfortable. Free wireless internet access in and outside of the room. Our room has a great view of the park across the street from the hotel. We loved it!
If you have lots of luggages, be careful, as the closest airport shuttle bus stop is about 10 minutes walk from the hotel.

Nice business class hotel
If you want a nice business class hotel, then this is a good place. It is south of the main city attractions, but those can be reached by a 20 minute walk. The hotel also has ample parking, so if you have a car because you plan to explore other parts of Ireland this is a great place to stay.

Good Hotel/Reasonable Price
The hotel is a little far from the action but if you do not mind walking it is really good for the price. The staff was always helpful and even allowed an eary checkin. In the area there are a few restaurants and a Starbucks next door.

Comfortable
Very comfortable stay. Walked a distance to reach Grafton St./OConnell St. but well worth it for the scenery and ambiance of a big city.

Dublin on a Budget
I set a budget for a quick 5 day trip to Dublin. It cost as much to vaca in the states. Two days in transit and 3 days to enjoy. Mespil was the fit and it turned out to be a good one. Its a hike into town, but part of the journey is appreciating the scenery. Wear comfortable shoes. There is a tour bus that picks up right in front of the hotel, but the timing was never good for us. Hotel food was good, rooms were clean and we actually had a bathtub. A rariety in Europe.
Traveler's tip on shopping
Rate exchange is better in Europe. Get a $100 in Euro in the states for taxi, bus or food before you find a bank or ATM.

Mespil Hotel March 2009 Review
Was there for leisure 2 weeks ago. Check in was a breeze, they didnt have availability in their card park that night (It was a Friday) but I parked on the street for free for the weekend, which worked out great. The hotel was clean, comfortable and fully enjoyable. We were in town to check out Dublin and the location was actually really nice. Dublin is such a compact city that it was an easy walk to everywhere from the Hotel. I highly recommend Mespil!
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
If you have a car, or can get the right bus, make sure you take the quick trip up to Newgrange. You wont be disappointed.

Nice Hotel Close to St. Stephens Green
The Mespil was nicely located in a thriving area about 10-15 minutes walk from St. Stephens Green and Trinity College Dublin. The night life around the hotel was enjoyable with numerous pubs and clubs in close proximity. The room was quite nice and the staff was professional and helpful. I will stay there again.

Good Place to Stay
The hotel is nice, with clean, comfortable rooms. It is a little ways from the center of town, but not so far that you are not in town. There is no alarm clock, and I had trouble with the phone connection, even when trying to reach the front desk; however, I would stay there again based on the cleanliness and comfort of the room.
