Extremely impressed

Remarkable building and an excellent staff. The refurbishment of this Burnham office building into a hotel is very cleverly done. The front desk staff were extremely helpful. Mine was a quick stay, so I did not get a chance to check out the health facilities. And I generally prefer being able to print out my own boarding passes, but those are small quibbles.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The Goodman theater and the Chicago theater are extremely nearby. And good restaurants not far off. The hotel’s own restaurant was quite good. I felt a bit unwanted as a single diner, but the food and wine were excellent and reasonably priced. The restaurant is not continuously open, so between hours snacks must be had outside of the hotel, but that was not a hardship either. Chicago Institute of the Arts and Millenium Park also nearby, as are the Red and Blue line stops.

Love Chicago

This is second time we stayed at the Hotel Burnham. Will always stay there if we can. First time was for 25th Wedding Anniversary. Took our 23 and 20 year old kids back and we have a great time. Within 2 miles of holtel is everything to keep a couple or family busy for a week.

In the heart of the theatre district

We absolutely loved the hotel and staff. Our location enabled us to walk everywhere we wanted to in the city. The room decor was sumptious! We definately recommend Hotel Burnam. Thank you.

Nice hotel

My husband and I stayed here overnight and went to a show. The hotel has a unique architectural style and staff was extremely courteous. The rooms are not very big but didn’t feel cramped. It’s location is ideal for dining and seeing a show-just a quick walk to get there.

Nice place

Great place - lots of ambiance. Very helpful staff, great food, etc. The only problem we had was with the beds. The mattress was so hard that neither of us got a good night’s sleep. The staff supplied us with 5 more down comforters to top the bed, which made it better, but there really should be a softer mattress. All the rooms were the same. I would go back if the beds were fixed.

Great location and wonderful building

This hotel is located just south of the Magnificent Mile and the theatre district. The building is very historic - was recently remodeled and retains much of the old charm. The cafe is modern and lively and has good food. Little extras like free Starbucks coffee and Tazo tea in the morning and free wine reception in the afternoon are a plus.

Great value for the price and location

Excellent staff--very friendly and caring Although an old hotel, it’s very well-kept and up-to-date--comfortable beds, good shower. Walking distance to many theatres

Traveler's tip on dining

Make sure you make reservations well in advance for the cafe--we had to go elsewhere for dinner and Sunday brunch

Excelant location in the theather district of Chicago

This was probably the cleanest hotel room that we have stayed in other than the Broadmore in CO. The staff was great, personnel attention that we received was over and above what was required.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Easy to find and right in the heart of Chicago

impeccable

Beautiful renovation, everything very high quality, all the details thought of. If you are like me and don’t like to give your money to corporate boredom, this will just do it for you. It has character, style, great location and nice services, like good coffee in the lobby in the morning rather than that coffeemaker in the room, and wine tasting in the afternoon in that stylish lobby.

Excellent in many ways

Great location, close to trains (Red line to Sox & Cubs; Blue line to Greek Town restaurants), buses (rte 29 to Navy Pier), easy walk to Millenium Park, Art Institute & Michigan Avenue sights. Rooms are not spacious but very adequate. Nice furnishings, including hair dryer & iron. Evening (5-6) wine bar was great. On the 6th floor, we had slight construction noise from across the street, but that project will be done in November 2008. I’d definitely go back to the Burnham.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

We got a 72-hour transit pass for $12. It was a bargain for us since we used both trains and buses. Greek Islands restaurant in Greek Town was fantastic and reasonably priced with great Greek atmoshere.

excellent hotel with major construction around

This is an excellent hotel with a good location and neighborhood. However, there is currently a significant construction work going on across the street which makes a lot of noise late in the evening and early in the morning. You need earplugs.

Great location, funky style, nice service

Loved the Hotel Burnham. It was very close to bus lines that went everywhere as well as close to several El stops. The room was smallish but that was expected. GREAT shower and comfy bed. All the staff were very helpful. My husband uses a wheelchair, which we had delivered for our trip and that went very smoothly. The concierge also helped us with calling CTA to find out accessible El stops. Great wine reception each night.

Traveler's tip on dining

Try Frontera Fresca on the 7th floor of Macy’s across the street from Hotel Burnham for a yummy, cheap Mexican lunch from Rick Bayless, chef of much more expensive restaurants.

Great location, pleasant stay

The hotel is in a terrific location a couple of blocks from Grant Park/Millennium Park, several CTA stops, Michigan Avenue, and the Chicago Theater. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, especially the concierges who were quick with advice and recommendations. The building itself is architecturally interesting - being among Chicago’s first skyscrapers - and has some lovely ironwork inside. Once inside, it does feel a little small, but this was fine with us. Our room was spotlessly clean. It wasn’t particularly large, but we really don’t need a lot of space. Note that as a boutique style hotel, you won’t find the amenities of a larger hotel (e.g., swimming pool, large exercise room, etc.). We do wish the bar stayed open later - it closes at 11 on the weekends. After walking the Loop for hours in the high heat, feeling completely exhausted, and in serious need of refreshment and a comfy seat, we were annoyed to be relegated to the bar for drinks and snacks in the mid afternoon. We hoped to sit and relax in the plush dining room chairs but were refused. If it’s 3 p.m., the place is wide open and you’ve got a waitress on duty, what’s the harm? It seemed like a little request that would have made us so happy at the time. Yet, this was a minor irritation and overall we enjoyed our stay.

Four Star Quality

Impressed is the perfect word to describe my thought. From the moment you step into the hotel, everyone greets you. The check-in process was simple. The concierge knew every little detail about Chicago plus they catered to all your needs. The happy hour from 5 - 6PM is great; all you can drink wine. Our room was beautiful and had a magnificent view of State Avenue. The only thing I wan’t happy with was the size of the bed. The description says the bed is a Queen size, but I strongly believe it’s a Full size. My husband and I were a bit tight sleeping on the bed which made it a bit uncomfortable.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Visit Millemium Park during the summer. They have free events everyday. We had the chance to go to a Luciano Pavaroti Tribute Concert. Over 5,000 people attended. The best part of it was seeing people of all ages there; from toddlers to the elder. You are allowed to bring blankets, chairs, wine, cheese, crackers, etc.; basically anything to enjoy the event.

worst hotel that i have ever stayed in

rooms were not clean. there was no fridge, no microwave, no hair dryer, no coffee maker, no free internet access, no drinking water, no ice vending machines, no vending machines of any kind, no mini-bar. The rooms were very small and were not able to accommodate even two people’s stuff. you could find lots of dirt. the housekeeping did not even clean the room properly. the room light was very low. there were only 4-5 drawers and 2 of them were locked. there is a snack bar but if you pick anything from it, you will be charged. there were magazines in the room but you need to search for them (they were hidden from the view). the only thing good about the hotel is its location and the staff around the reception were very courteous.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

pretty close by to all attractions. Thats pretty much the only good thing about the hotel.

Old Time Movie Set

Our room and the whole Burnham experience made us feel we were in the 1920’s. Down to every last detail, including the wrought iron on the elevators and the animal print robes in the closet, the experience was unique in this every-hotel-looks-the-same world. We would recommend it for a romantic getaway.

Great boutique hotel with convenient location

I was very pleased with my stay at the hotel Burnham. The rooms are smaller but luxuriously furnished and the beds are great! Staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very close to Millenium Park and near CTA and free shuttle stops. Would highly recommend this one!

Excellent Hotel and location

This hotel was truly excellent, it wasn’t loud, and the service was outstanding. The rooms were nice, and it was within walking distance to a lot of great places in Chicago. The cafe in the restaurant is much better for lunch than for breakfast.
