A charming mountain escape in the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwest Virginia, the historic Martha Washington Hotel and Spa was originally built in 1832 as a private residence for a Virginia general. Throughout the years, it has also served as a finishing school for young women, a Civil War hospital, and a women's college, and it opened as a hotel in 1935, paying tribute to its historic legacy with gracious Southern hospitality and the genteel elegance of period antiques and furnishings. The hotel offers 51 guestrooms and 11 suites, each individually decorated with antiques and all the fine amenities and services expected from a luxury hotel. To satisfy a variety of tastes, the hotel offers two restaurants, including Sisters, which serves American cuisine in an intimate, cozy atmosphere. The Spa at The Martha features beautifully appointed treatment, dressing, and locker rooms, the latest in equipment technology, and an adjoining fitness area.

Beautiful Southern hospitality
The hotel is a southern gem. Although an older historic hotel, the rooms were clean and updated. The room had an antique four poster bed, but brand new bedding. The bathrooms were gorgeous. The breakfast was delicious with so much variety!!
Traveler's tip on local attractions
The creeper trail is the most relaxing walking/ jogging path. Don’t miss it!!
