Great hotel

Loved the place. Room was small, but very clean. The front desk staff was great. Especially liked the free use of their computer with internet, free DVD rental, excellent breakfast, and pool. Highly recommend to others.

Took the Ice Caves tour. Just be aware that the 700 steps are as difficult as they say in the brochure. Great tour if you are in shape!

Good location, pretty, clean place

Pros: great location, pretty place, yummy breakfast, clean, large rooms Cons: a little loud with windows open, but closed windows make the room silent. Bed very hard. Steps in our building, though not a huge deal and staff will take up your luggage. Blow dryer is very awkward and harsh (not as if that’s a huge deal)

A good choice

This hotel was almost perfect, except for a couple of significant drawbacks. We were in the residence part of the hotel, across the street from the main hotel, and our room was on the third floor. They have no elevator and a steep winding staircase. They have an employee who is designated to help with luggage, although we would have preferred to save a few euros and do it ourselves. Also, the street noise is significant and there is no a/c. They do have fans in the room, which created a "white noise" kind of effect so we were able to sleep. I think church bells ringing all night in Austria is not a problem unique to this hotel, the best solution in summertime is to find a hotel with a/c. Summertime in Salzburg, hotel space is tight, and this hotel is in such a great location with easy walking access to town and a slightly longer, but reasonable, walk to the train station. I would stay there again; if they could find a way to get an elevator and a/c it would be perfect.

Cute place!

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. It was a central location to shops and food. The facilities were well kept up, and there was lots to offer. The staff was great as well: kind, courteous, and always giving great advice. It may be tough to stay during a hot streak (no-airconditioning available), but this was a great place with some personality.

Good location, reasonably priced.

The hotel is modest but comfortable. We were very happy that we were able to check in early. The hotel room was fine except for the noise from the street. (Ask for an inside room). The delivery trucks outside woke us up! The hotel breakfast was good and the afternoon coffee and cake a nice extra. The location is convenient for shopping and for dining. It’s not in the middle of the old town so it is more accessible by taxi or car and an easy walk to all the tourist sites.

Train before you go to climb to the 4th floor

As stated on Expedia. No Elevator to this room on the 4th floor. Very well Located, Breakfast as normal in Europe. They rent movies for free. Parking is at 5 minutes walk...

Just beautiful!

Great location, comfortable rooms, excellent staff. All the amenities of a Grand Hotel for a whole lot less. The breakfast buffet was awesome! I can’t praise the staff enough. They treat their guests like visiting royalty. And I can’t wait to go back!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

There is so much to see and do in Salzburg that you really need several days to take it all in. But if you are only staying for 2 or 3 nights, the Salzburg card is a bargain as well as a convenience. Also, this is a great city to walk through, so bring your most comfortable shoes. And don’t forget your umbrella - light showers are common and don’t last very long.

great hotel

Very nice and quite location, close to everything. Hotel staff is attentive and provided excellent service. Spa is absolutely worth checking: wonderfull steam bath and a sauna. Appreciated organic breakfast in the morning: wide selection of breads, juices, meats and cheeses. Would definitely return.

Excellent option in Salzburg

Hotel Wolf-Dietrich is definitely one of the best places I’ve stayed in Europe. Not only it is perfectly located (you’re at a walking distance from all major attractions), but also the quality of service here is really impressive. You can see the difference in the details, such as friendly and warmth reception, delicious breakfast (included), free powerful wifi, or even a wide selection of DVDs (you may watch "The Sound of Music" again while you’re in town). The building architecture is also very nice, which makes it a real Salzburg experience. Highly recommended, excellent option for a fair price.

Great Place to Stay!

This hotel was awesome. It was right in the walk platz (pedestrian zone), near restaurants and within walking distance of pretty much all the sights. The breakfast was delicious. They had great amenities that were family friendly: a spa with pool, a children’s play room, afternoon tea and snacks, free movie checkout. The one downside is our room was in the Residenz section and up 5 flights of stairs (with no lift), so we got a lot of a workout going back and forth to our room. The staff was very attentive and helpful. We had a great stay.

Exceeded Every Expectation

Wow... I’ve traveled extensively throughtout Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. This family-run hotel is a golden nugget. From the very thoughtful courteous staff, to the room decor & high-tech TV/DVDs, to the wonderful breakfast, we found this to be a true oasis. We had three adults in the beautiful suite, and were very impressed with everything about the stay.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

We heard that the "Sound of Music" tour is a must-do... but make sure that it’s May or later when the flowers are in bloom and all the attractions are available.

Perfect Addition to a Great Weekend

Hotel Wolf-Dietrich was the perfect addition to a great weekend. The room was spacious, beds were comfortable, and the staff were very accomodating. This place is away from the central area of downtown so it is quiet. They have this fabulous all-organic breakfast with the best coffee I have ever tasted! We drove in so we asked for a place to park our car, and for a reasonable fee we have a secure, indoor location only 2 blocks away. The hotel is located only a short walk from the old town and from the Mirabelle Gardens. When we wanted to book tours we just asked at the front desk and they took care of us. I will definitely stay there if we go back and I will recommend it to everyone we know. The only downside, which really is NOT a big issue, is if you stay in the apartments across the street from the main building, there is no elevator. We were on the 3rd floor which made for a struggle up and down the stairs with luggage, and a looming monster at the end of a day of walking all over town.

Traveler's tip on dining

If you get a chance the Gobblerbrau, is a great restaurant on the way from this hotel to the main bridge...great food and atmosphere. And if you have a chance, don’t miss the Mozart Dinner Concert...My husband doesn’t really care for opera, and he LOVED it! The restaurant downstairs from where the dinner concert is held is fantastic too.

Stunning Salzburg

The hotel has the feel of a family owned B&B with the comforts and amenities of some of the best hotels I’ve stayed. The spa is wonderful and the morning breakfast was the finest I experienced in my European travels. The best part of the stay was insight of the staff for Restaurants and sight seeing.

Traveler's tip on dining

EssenZimmer is possibly the finest dining experience I have encountered in all of my travels. The creativity of the food was magnificent; I felt like a judge on the Iron Chef.

We would go Back

Our room was actually across the street from the check-in desk, pool, suana and bar. Also the building did not have a elevator. We had to carry our bags up and down 3 flights of stairs. The pool, suana, steam room were new and beautiful. We just did’nt like having to walk across the street in December to get back and forth to the room . This is why we gave it a 3 on the scale. The staff was excellent. I had the Best deep tisues massage in my life. Get one!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Great Location to the down area(literaly around the corner) Take the "sound of music tour" it’s , very imformative and breath taking scenery! You need at least 3 days to see Salzburg and take the tours. Tour bus will pick you up at your hotel. Just contact the front desk clerk he /she will arrange everything for you. One more thing. The breakfast buffet was very good. This Hotel uses only organic products from food to the soaps in your room. Very Nice indeed.

can’t wait to go back

The quality of the service was remarkably personalized and warm. The spa at this hotel is a peaceful and relaxing small area with a Sauna, Pool and Turkish Bath. It was a treat to stay at this hotel thanks to the attitude of the personnel and the central location

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The concerts at the Mozarteum (Hochschule fur Musik) are very good and there is a cafeteria where a healthy lunch can be had for a very good price.

Would come back again

Exceeded expectations for a small hotel. Front desk people were multilingual and very helpful. We stayed in the annex across the street and hotel people helped with bags to the second floor. Pleasant 10 minute walk to historic district.

Wonderful Salzburg hotel

Great hotel a very short walk from Mirabell palace and the old city. Room comes with a full breakfast buffet...100% organic (bio) meats, bread, cheese and produce. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Great spa in basement (pool, sauna, steam, infrared room) but no fitness equipment. That said, we did plenty of walking every day and there are great walking/bike paths along the river for miles if you want to run.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Purchase the Salzburg card (22 euro) at the hotel before hitting all the museums and gallerys (Residence, Modern Art, New Residence). This provides 24 hours of unlimited public transport (though you won’t need it as all are within a short walk) and free admission to all museums each of which would normally cost you 7-9 euros each. Just pick a "museum day" and you can knock out 4-5.

Fabulous hotel stay

I will stay here anythime I go to Salzburg. Though not in the center of town, Old Town Salzburg is a leisurely 10 minute walk down Linzergasse or you can walk down Paris-Lodron Strasse to stroll through the Mirabell Gardens (5 min). The hotel itself is a smallish boutique style hotel with a lounge and breakfast area (that used to be a restaurant). The rooms are large and airy with good sized bathrooms. Our room included a couch, chair, coffee table, desk and flat screen TV in addition to the bed, bedside tables and armoire. This is definitely not the typical European-sized hotel room. The breakfast is continental and includes breads, coldcuts, cheeses, yogurts, granola, cereals, juices, eggs, etc. Americans should not expect the typical hot American breakfast as that is not the European style. The staff is friendly and will provide directions, make reservations, and loan movies, newspapers and electrical gadgets. I do recommend requesting a room in the main hotel and not in the residence across the street - I’ve never stayed there, but breakfast and the pool are in the main hotel. This hotel is highly recommended - the amenities are better than the price indicates.

Traveler's tip

If you have a cell phone that will work in Europe, I recommend paying your cell phone company’s fee to turn on the international roaming. I found my cell phone to be invaluable in every city I visited when I wanted to call a cab, make restaurant reservations, call home, or track down my lost luggage.

Excellent Place

Stayed two nights here and wasn’t disappointed with anything. Would be nice to have Internet access in the rooms, but it’s not that big a deal to walk down to the lobby either...plus you can get something to drink then, too. Definitely would recommend to anyone!

Great location!

What a great little place to stay in Salzburg! Location is great within walking disatnce of everything. Hotel and staff services were great. Secure parking garage less than two blocks walk. Highly recommend the city, hotel and the Sound of Music tour!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

If there for less than three days don’t waste your money on The Salzburg Card. Everything was so close we didn’t need to take public at all.
