A very good hotel

I found the level of service and quality of hotel very good. The key were the staff, who would leave no stone left unturned to satisfy our needs; from obtaining additional bedding to just being eager to help and being so friendly. I have rated comfort of room a three at Swissotel Stamford, because we found that the bed tended to be on the firmer side, merely a personal dislike, as we have older bodies. The hotel quickly attended to the bed issue by supplying, at our request, additional dooners to place on top of the mattress which went someway to relieving our achy muscles. We had no problems with noise, other guests, and so on. The situation of the Hotel is first class; being situated in the Raffles Centre which has a large range of shopping on four levels including a supermarket and restaurants The City Hall MRT is downstairs, taxis are available at call, both providing quick and easy access to any attraction in Singapore. Really good for us because our walking distance was limited. Singapores second biggest shopping centre Suntec, is accessible via an underground shop lined tunnel from City Hall MRT. I doubt there is a better location for a holiday in Singapore, but that depends on your interests of course. You could book at the Swissotel knowing you are going to get a very good hotel and not have any problems.

Taxis are cheap when not travelling during peak periods which attract surcharges, so if you are travelling alone or especially with more than one, taxis are the way to get around. They do a lot of short trips, being a small island. We visited some attractions like the Night Safari by taxi with groups of people and it was much easier and convenient and price competitive to go by taxi. Check out the taxi surcharge hours. Even City to Airport was only $14 during non - surcharge hours. Cheaper shopping is available in outlying centres like Compass Point, Holland Village etc. Go to these via MRT and be with the locals - the real Singapore experience. There is a great and cheap restaurant at Laguna Beach - Chilli crab to die for.... Don’t go to the early Show at the Night Safari (crowds) - do the Tram ride first or walk the park, to get away from the madding crowd. Loved the Bird Park at J....... And last but not least the best eating out experience are at the hawker stands where you can get a good feed of anything Asian plus a large bottle of COLD Tiger or Heinekin for under $10 - a steal.

Swissotel The Stamford - Really Nice

Centrally located - next to the hotel is a metro station with an underground mall. However pricey.

needs total renovation

This formerly great hotel is still impressive in its lobby and public areas; the pool, gym, and tennis coirts are nice since they are shared with the Fairmont. But the rooms are really tired and old. The carpeting is dirty, the fixtures out-moded. Desperately in need of renovation. And it’s not cheap. I moved to the Carlton which was much nicer although it had fewer stars.
