La Quinta Inn Sandpoint

Clean, safe, easy to downtown

This is the second time we’ve stayed at this La Quinta in Sandpoint. It’s a nice hotel, convenient to downtown if you like to walk about. The breakfast is always nice and basic - hot homemade waffles and bisquits and gravy - along with cereal, toast, pastries. The pool is nicely sized and accessible through the second floor. It’s a bit chilly (I don’t think it’s heated) but it is totally swimmable. You can see it pretty much from the second building rooms without a problem. The laundry room is clean and is stocked with books to read while you wait (mostly Harlequin Romances of various vintages and Canadian travel books). Make sure you have quarters since there is no place to make change in the laundry room. My one gripe which can’t be helped. The trains. The train line runs through the center of Sandpoint it seems. I don’t think there is any place that isn’t within reach of the sound of the trains at two am. It’s the only thing.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Ask for a room that isn’t near the main drag. The best place to get a good meal is Panhandler Pies which isn’t opened on Sundays but is open every other day. If you’re a fan of Coldwater Creek stores, you’re in luck. There is a store within walking distance AND you’re near their home office.
