Highly recommended
This hotel was ideally situated with easy access to the Grand Canal and to The Zattere stop from the airport ferry. The room was small but comfortable and the bathroom was very well equipped and well lit. The Reception staff were friendly and helpful and each of them had a warm, personal touch . We were made to feel very much at home.
We went to Venice in early November which meant the crowds were minimal and there was almost no queuing for the main attractions. We had the fun of seeing St Marks Square flooded and walking on duck boards, but also had some sunshine in which to see Venice at its best.

Fantastic Find
The Hotel American is a really terrific find. The location is great (near the Accademia Bridge), and it is understated. I cant say enough about the front desk. Everyone was fabulous and extremely helpful. The room was always kept clean and, if you needed something, everyone was on hand to make sure you received it. If you want to get away from the crowds of San Marco, the tourists and the snotty clerks at the more expensive hotels, this is the hotel you should consider. We will definitely stay here again and again. Bravo to the staff and the owner.

Too pricey for what you get
This is a lovely little hotel close to the Accademia and the Peggy Guggenheim museum. It was good to be away from the intense crowds around San Marco. This was my third time in Venice, however, and I was not impressed with value for money. We stayed three nights. The first room they showed us was small and overlooked a tiny cement courtyard that was crowded with broken appliances and lawn equipment. The next room they showed us to overlooked an alleyway, and the bathroom was so tiny that you nearly had to sit on the toilet to move around the sink to get the shower. We chose this one, as at least you could stick your head out the window and around the corner to get a tiny peek at a canal. Spending over a grand for three nights, I had hoped for much more. I have stayed in other hotels in a lower price range that were just as lovely, with more space and canal views. Other that that, the service is great and the breakfast is lovely
