Great location to any places your heart desire...
We spend our 2009 Xmas & 2010 New Year in this Hotel. First room assigned to ask was nice & clean with the view of Tokyo Tower, but too small for my husband that is 62" tal about 225lbs, no safe inside its a no no, so we upgrade to much bigger & much expensive with additional $ for the 11 night. Expensive but we are happy big room with big bath but no dresser cabinet for the clothes only closet to hang clothes. But we deal with it there is one small drawer cabinet for shoes that we use for our underware. the good thing there is a safe that is big you can even put a small laptop. So overall we are happy.

Great Hotel and Great Location
Four blocks from the Ginza district, which is perfect if you happening to be visiting Japan during the November - December holliday season. If you have children, a large Japanese - type park with a playground is nearby. The staff are fluent in English and responsve to yur questions.Even when offered tips they would not accept it. Another plus, on weekends, you have a good chance in seeing a Japanese couple hold a Westen-style wedding in the lobby. Couldnt have asked for more.

Wonderful hotel
Beautiful hotel. Very friendly staff. 2 blocks from Shinbashi station. 6-7 blocks from Ginza "5th Avenue" stores. Was a welcome change from staying in very small business hotel rooms earlier in my trip. South facing view was outstanding. Staff was happy to move me from a smoking floor to a non-smoking floor and arrange the airport shuttle as my JRPass had expired ($30 for shuttle). Hotel restaurants are very expensive but lots in the surrounding area if you do not want to eat at the hotel.

I love the Dai-Ichi
Its so conveniently located and the staff is great--very helpful and efficient. Because I speak Japanese, I cant say whether any of them speak proficient English, but on my first visit three years ago the concierge was able to help me during a medical emergency for which I lacked the vocabulary. I think the rooms are wonderful--well-appointed with very comfortable beds and great bathrooms. I also love being so close to Shimbashi station, as I take public transportation everywhere. Here are my caveats: Dont stay in a room below the 14th floor, as you will be disturbed by the noise from the trains. We started out on the 9th but upon our return from Kansai and Kyushu were upgraded to bigger rooms on the 14th, which was so much quieter. Your room may be non-smoking but everyone in the rooms around you will be puffing away. They really should have a non-smoking floor.
Dont waste your money by eating in the hotel--this or any other in Tokyo. Food in Tokyo is reasonable if you go where ordinary people go, and its very hard to find a mediocre, let alone bad, meal. We ate breakfast at the SPID Group cafe at the back of Shimbashi Station--the greatest French pastries and coffee--for Y700 per person. There are countless fantastic and reasonable Japanese restaurants within easy walking distance. Through the concierge, I found an astonishing French restaurant, Les Amis du Vins, on a small street off the Ginza. Except for the desserts, it was the best French meal Ive had outside France. For Italian food, take the train to Ebisu station and go to the mall above it--theres a restaurant called Il Paradiso that serves the best Italian food Ive had outside Italy.

Highly recommend this hotel
We stayed there on our first trip to Tokyo and will stay there again if we visit next time. Hotel staffs provide very good service, very polite, and speak good English. The room is large and bed is comfortable. The location is very good too, walking distance to train, food and shopping.

Very nice oasis in downtown Tokyo.
Very pleased with everything. Close to subway with underground passageway. Close to Ginza shopping and great spots to eat on street level along side the subway overpass. Very comfortable rooms and would recommend this hotel.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Eat at places within a 4-6 block radius. Room frig is a nice place to store a carton a two of yogurt for breakfast.

Gracious Hosts
Courtesy is the word that comes to mind when I think back on my recent stay at Dai Ichi. Every service giver was courteous and obliging in their attitude and behavior. My only service quibble is that the check-in desk got temporarily tied up but a new clerk soon appeared to serve me. The room was spotless and well appointed. The bed was comfortable and everything worked. I would like to have had western TV channels but havent seen these in any Japanese hotel so far. I would like to have had wine in the bar fridge and more snacks, like nuts. The western breakfast was well prepared and presented but the bacon and sausages were scant in quantity. I will try the health club next time as it looked goos. There is a charge but also a discount. The location is good for me because its so close to Shimbashi station and not a long walking distance from the Ginza. I was fortunate to get a 40% discount on the room which made it great value.
Traveler's tip on shopping
On the Ginza go to the dept store Matsuyas design section for aesthetic product design. Its on the 6th or 7th floor. Then the amazing Itoh-Ya. Nine floors of wonderfully crafted stationery and so much more. At Nihonbashi go to Mitsukoshis basement for the best choice of food you will see anywhere. And Takashimayas gallery for the very best miso and rice bowls and sake cups. At Ometesando Hills, go to the very bottom level for superb clothes and the wonderful Delfonics.

Incredibly relaxing two-night stay
In the past, I have stayed at the Palace Hotel, but it is under refurbishment. This is the first time I have booked the Dai-Ichi, but hopefully not the last. Although old style, the quality of the furnishings provided an extremely relaxing atmosphere. The staff were most helpful at all times. Of course, the clincher for my staying there was the excellent deal from Expedia, which moved this luxury hotel from beyond my price range to well inside.

Good for business
Its a good hotel and the rate was great considering the Ginza district. However, I do feel they need more English speaking personnel and more channels in English, please! CNN and BBC are not sufficient!
Traveler's tip for business travelers
The Shimbashi station is just around the corner from the hotel. Excellent if you know your way around Tokyo or if you are going to take the Shinkansen somewhere else in Japan.

Would go back again
Great location. Walking distance to a lot of placed I wanted and needed to go. Only negative is that my room was near the rail station and you can hear trains going by (not really loud but still can hear the sound). Hotel personnel all very helpful.

Excellent hotel and great deal
We were very pleased. We traveled with our 18 year old son and we were very happy to find the room set up to accommodate three adults (an additional bed was set up for our son). The hotel is located in a very short walking distance from Ginza which made it easy to shop or find a restaurant in the evening. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who travels to Tokyo.

Cant wait to go back!
The Dai-Ichi Hotel in the Ginza district has an incredibly friendly and helpful staff, elegant and reasonably priced restaurant, and is close enough to the train station to be central to nearly all Tokyo attractions. Our room was spectular. The bed and pillows were more comfortable than what I have back home! The view was great and everyone went above and beyond to help us make the most out of our stay. Highly recommend this hotel for first time travelers to Tokyo.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
If youre on a budget, try to avoid dinning out in Ginza. The noddle shops near the Shimbashi train station are reasonably priced, but if you want something more than noodles, try and leave Ginza and go to Shibuya or Asakusa. I found some great dining places there.

Tokyo Dai-Ichi, clean, comfortable, and convenient location
Very well-maintained and with attentive staff. This hotel is very close to the Shimabshi train station, including the elevated train (Yurikagome) that goes to the Tokyo International Meetings Center in Ariake. An airport bus ("Airport Limousine") takes you direct from Narita to the hotel and back.

PErfect location
This hotel is a Japanese hotel. In all the years I have been going to japan I tend to think this area is the best. It is centrally located and steps from the Ginza line and 5 minute walk to Yamanote line. Hotel service is great. I always come back to this hotel. Grocery store nearby.

Good Service as Always
This was my fourth visit to the Dai Ichi Tokyo Hotel in 18 months. The service is impeccable and the rooms are in good repair. This is not a new, glitzy hotel and that is reflected in the excellent price. It is also well-located with direct connection to Shinbashi Station (subway and JR) and jas an airport bus stop. The restaurants are good as well.

Great Location - Amazing Expedia Value
As a frequent traveler to Japan and I normally search out hotels in the Shimbashi and Yurakucho area as I love to wander the Ginza and, I must admit, I am a sushi junkie. I find myself walking to the Tsukiji Fish Market early each morning to begin my day with a great sushi breakfast. Normally the Dai-Ichi Tokyo is normally out of my price range, but the Expedia offer was truly amazing. I jumped at it. The best value I think I can remember for any Tokyo stay. This is a class hotel, the people are wonderful and the service from the doorman to the concierge exudes a commitment to total customer service. I needed to contact Expedia customer service prior to booking on their website and their service was top notch. I am a very happy customer.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Walk, walk, walk; the Dai-Ichi is perfectly located. Go out the door, turn right and Shimbashi Station is 2 min away. Better yet, turn left and wander the Ginza, early in the morning and watch it come alive with ever increasing activity. Tsukiji is a great walk through the side streets of the Ginza. It only takes about 20 minutes. I love this place. Like to eat, restaurants abound and will satisfy every taste and price range. There is even a convenience store directly across the street.

Cant wait to go back!!!
I am so thankful for the great reviews of this hotel which helped me in my decision when looking for a hotel in Tokyo. The staff was very friendly and always helpful. They upgraded our room for free to a room with a king size bed, bathroom with separate tub and walk-in shower, on the 14th floor with wonderful view of Tokyo especially at night. We enjoyed our room very much. My husband enjoyed making tea in our room every morning and night. The room provides a thermos and an impressive tea set. The room also has a big flat screen TV and mini-bar. There were also robes, kimonos, and slippers to use. The location was just perfect. The hotel has its own access to the Shimbashi station. You can also easily walk to Ginza. The bus shuttle was convenient to get to hotel and back to Narita airport.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Across the hotel is a convenient store where we purchased snack items. We enjoyed the steam buns that they were selling during breakfast. Also, we were also able to try the Hanamasa Steakhouse (tip from other reviews) and enjoyed it very much. Using the vending machine to order was a neat experience. The steak was also sooo delicious!
