Quiet Hotel

Our stay here was very comfortable. Kitano is a quiet hotel ideally situated in a safe neighborhood. It is conveniently located and not far from the Grand Central Station. We would stay here again if we return to NYC. Service was courteous as well.

Very Comfortable and great service

My wife and I had a wonder stay at the Kitano. They offer excellent service and you can beat the location. Although, they’re a bit pricey I believe they are a good value.

Traveler's tip

The hotel is three short blocks from Grand Central station. It’s a great place to find an inexpensive bite to eat, people watch and connect to one of the many subway lines.

Great Service

This hotel had great service and was in an excellent location near all transportation modes. The room was a nice size for NY standards and the bathroom lovely. It was several blocks to the theatre district, but that was okay because we were there in the summer. The hotel does not have a fitness center but they give you a daily pass to a nearby gym just a couple of blocks away. Would definitely stay there again!

Make sure you are put on a non smoking floor if you do not smoke!

100 steps from Grand Central in a classy awninged, updated, pristine hotel

Nice-sized room for NYC. DO ask for new linens in summer as the others wilt like dahilias. Fresh bath, nice products, heavy white towels, robes you’ll want to own. Terrifically kind and acccommodating staff. But do ask that that pesky Office Depot chair be removed from your otherwise-classy room.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

You’ll never cab anywhere. It’s either w/in walking distance of Broadway/5th etc. or hop on the subway at Grand Central.

Nice, little NYC hotel on out of the way Park Avenue

My husband and I live in NYC but were having our apt. painted so we stayed for 2 nights. I asked for a quiet room, away from the elevator. The room was small and clean with a minibar, but no coffee maker. You could make tea. Bathroom nice, but very tiny closet. Not great for a long stay. The noise began early each morning with the banging of the door right next to our room --the Housekeeping pantry! Why would reservations put us there after I asked for quiet. It was worse than hearing constant foot traffic. Bit of a language problem unless you speak Japanese. Not a typical NY hotel.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

If you want to save a few dollars, stay here, but don’t rent a movie or use the minibar. There are 3 restaurants which are as pricey as any NY restaurant, but they do have jazz starting at 8:00 p.m.

absolutely coming back

We went to NYC for the first time with our young children. The hotel could not have been nicer. friendly staff and immaculately clean rooms. Excellent access to midtown and only 3 blocks from Grand Central. We have already reserved room for a fall trip

Highly recommended

This hotel is the perfect base for a whirlwind New York visit. It’s within walking distance of several major attractions - we were thrilled to have a great view of the Empire State Building from our room! Grand Central is just a short 5 minute walk away so we rarely needed to take a cab anywhere. The rooms are clean, comfortable and big by New York standards. Service was efficient and friendly. The only negative would be the price of the price of the food but after the first day, we didn’t bother to eat at the hotel - there are enough cheap places nearby to grab a quick meal.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Get a 7 day metro card for just $27 and it will take you anywhere you need to be.

My first choice for my next visit

This hotel is maintained in pristine condition. The staff are very helpful. Their breakfast buffet was a bit higher priced, but wasn’t the standard fare, so it was memorable. The rooms included a pot for heating water for the green tea that was included and a towel warmer in the bathroom. Nice touches.

Traveler's tip on dining

The breakfast at the Pershing Square Restaurant directly across from the entrance to Grand Central Station was very good with some novel entrees. Supershuttle is by far the cheaper option for transport to and from the airport. Lion King and South Pacific were magnificent.

Overrated & Price Inflated

I admit, a huge part of why I chose this hotel was it’s 4-star rating and positive reviews. But it simply isn’t exceptional enough to warrant the cost. I’ve stayed at other hotels mere blocks away that were rated lower, but provided much more than The Kitano. For starters, you have to pay a daily fee to use the internet (which baffles me about luxury hotels, since all cheap motels seem to provide it for free!) Also important is the room size, which is quite small for the price (at least if you get the "Superior King" room). Though roomy enough for the king size bed and tiny work/sitting area, there isn’t much room for anything else (so forget dining in or bringing much luggage). Basic items one would expect in a hotel room (like an ironing board) aren’t provided, and must be requested. Despite the generous 37" plasma TV, there are only about a dozen channels with poor (definitely not HD) reception. The desk is large enough for working, but the chair is very basic and uncomfortable-- no leather executive chair here. What you’re really paying for is the attentive service, huge marble sink, in-house restaurant, and reputable name/rating. And while it’s a great and convenient location, there are other hotels in the area that provide more spacious rooms with better amenities (at the same price or less). Unless you prefer an austere environment, or are willing to shell out even more for a "Premier Room" or Suite, I recommend searching for a different hotel.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Buy your own water to bring back to your room; the hotel charges $5 for each bottle of Figi water.

Excellent Hotel

I really enjoyed my stay at the Kitano. I appreciated their attention to detail from the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff to the room’s accessories and the bed turndown at night. I had just a standard room but it was quite spacious("very" spacious by New York’s standards), quiet and clean. The hotel was also very convenient to my meeting location and in a good neighborhood. As a woman traveling alone, I felt very safe.

Traveler's tip on dining

There are several nice neighborhood restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel. It was fun to get out and explore.

Excellent choice!

This hotel is in a great maintenance level, the fron desk team is VERY friendly and helpful, the location is great, a quite neighbourghood in midtown, where you can walk everywhere or use all means of public transportation 4 blocks away. VERY quite room and loby, nice bar. Room was very comfortable, with great Japanese tea, and all little things that make you really happy (towel heater, robes and sleeper, and so many more). The only problem we had was the internet was slow, two minutes after we complained, we had a technitian in our room and the problem disappered. I’ve been to many hotels, business and leisure in NYC - this one is winning my as my first choice.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Try the Swedish lunch at the Sedish store right next to the hotel. It’s fun and interesting!

excellent value

Whatever we asked for was delivered very quickly. Although the room was not large it had everything we needed including a flat screen TV and well designed storage space. The staff was very courteous and the hotel quiet. We did not eat in the hotel so I don’t know how the food is. The restaurant was not especially inviting and rather expensive. We loved the green tea provided daily. We like walking and found this location convenient. Loved the price for a four star hotel.
