Great place to stay to explore San Francisco
I travel on business to SF 3 or 5 times a year for the past 10 years. Ive stayed all over the city and suburbs and The Tuscan Inn on Fishermans Wharf is a hotel Ill go back to next time I travel. Right from the start of my visit when the parking attendants took immediate care of me and my car, through check out, the staff was efficient, friendly and accommodating. The King room I had (for one person) wasnt big, but it was well laid out. The WiFi worked perfectly, the bed was very comfortable and it was well decorated. I didnt take advantage of the nightly wine tastings as I am in the wine business already, but there was always a group of people sampling wine and talking and having a good time in the lobby in the late afternoons. It is a very convenient location, you can walk to North Beach and Chinatown, a good parking garage is right across the street; simply put, it is a good value in a good location.
Take a hike up into the Golden Gate National Rec area on the Marin side of the Golden Gate bridge. It is a beautiful, winding trail leading up the Marin headlands to beautiful views of San Francisco, the ocean, and the entire Bay area.

Location is the Only thing going for this place.
If youre looking for a nice getaway from home then this is not the place for you. This is a place to sleep and thats it. The elevators were broken when we got there, the staff was abrupt and unhelpful. The bathroom towelrack was broken, the hallways smelt like cigarettes. The hotel attached was way overpriced and the food is disgusting. Parking cost a fortune. Literally the only thing going for this place was that it was close to fishermans wharf. Which we saw everything there in 2 days. So we packed up and spent the next 4 days in Union Square. If youre gonna spend time in San Fran, then stay in union square.

Great location, Clean Hotel
My first trip to SF and my wife and I were not disappointed. Hotel was very convenient to the Wharf activities. Hotel room was smallish but very clean.. Hotel staff was very courteous and helpful - pointing out the bus routes and restaurants.

Great location, great service
We stayed here with our two kids (ages 3 and 4 1/2). The location was just a few blocks away from pier 39 - we didnt even need a stroller. It is just blocks from a Trolley Car stop - a must experience in San Fran. The room was a modest size, but comfortable. Our room was located on the street side, so it was a bit noisy (we heard cars driving by and the garbage truck bright and early that morning!) The bellhop was extremely courteous and helpful with our luggage. We heard there was a complimentary happy hour with wine & cheese every evening, but we didnt get a chance to attend (no doubt that it was nice). The surrounding neighborhood was great - we found a great place right down the street for breakfast where we could people watch.. Would definitely stay here again.

Ok for the price
Staff were excellent, room clean with sufficient space good central location to Fishermans Wharf, Trolley and Cable Car. As with most hotels in the USA the room lighting is terrible, table lamps with shades are not good for reading. Also it was the second hotel we stayed in that not only the lighting was bad outside the lift and in the hall it also had a nasty smell. Plumbing standards leave a little to be desired. Overall though we would certailny go back.
We noticed that some if the information we had regarding tours, e,g phone numbers and opening times were not correct. This appears to be a USA thing as we found the same in NY however as everyone is so helpful you get there in the end. You just need to find the person with the correct information.

Would not return
When we arrived one out of the two elevators did not work. We stayed for two nights. On the second day, we did not receive any towels. NONE. We called twice, finally at 9:30 PM the staff brought two bath towels. We had to request hand towels and wash cloths separately. In all our travels we never had such an experience.

Ugh
Our "non-smoking" room reeked of smoke - had to wash everything that was in my suitcase when I got home because it smelled like smoke. Awoke in the middle of the night to police shining flashlights into our ground floor window which opened onto a lightwell shared by other rooms and breaking up a party next to us. Took the precaution of using the safe after that only to find out they charge extra for that. Expensive valet parking ($42/night) was the all they offered.

Good location. Nice lobby. Great little restaurant.
The price of the room was competitive. The lobby was lovely. The room decor was a little funky, but it was clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed our meal in the restaurant. The atmosphere was cozy. The service was friendly. The food was good.

Convenienant location
The hotel was very convenient to all the piers and shopping was in walking distance. Parking was expensive, but that is to be expected anywhere in the city. It was clean and check in/out was a breeze.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
The Mr. Toads tour was excellent. We are from San Jose, only 45 minutes away from the city, but we dont get to San Fran that often. We took the Mr Toads tour and saw what we have been missing. San Francisco is a great city! The tour gives you a very diverse look and informative experience of the city and some of its history.

Too expensive for what it offers...
The hotel is a couple blocks off the main waterfront street. The rooms were very small even for two people. Italian theme, where? We didnt see it. We asked the valet to get a taxi and ended up spending almost 20 minutes waiting for one. We finally started walking and flagged our own down a couple blocks away. I would look for another place to stay next time.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
If you want to ride the cable cars, dont buy a ticket and get on at the main hub near Ghiradelli Square. Itll cost you $11 pp for an all day pass and you will wait in a long (30 - 40 minute) line. Instead, walk up the street a couple blocks and hop on for free. You can do that all along the cable car routes anytime you want.

Good Hotel in Great Location
This hotel is just 2 short blocks from all the activity at the wharf and pier 39. The room was very nice (it is small but nicely decorated). The hotel parking fee is high but there is a public lot nearby. We missed the complimentary wine but all the hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay here again.

Absolutely loved this place!
The hotel is perfectly located for anyone coming to SF. My only caution is to request a room not facing the street as it is quite noisy at night. Also, there is no room service, but a fabulous restaurant connected to the hotel. Would definitely stay again.

Great hotel, close to wharf
Ok.. so the room wasnt overly big; but it was very nicely decorated; newer furnishings; very comfortable. The hotel staff was so friendly and helpful. We checked out on sunday and were able to leave our car in their parking lot till later after we came back from breakfast.
Traveler's tip on dining
You have to eat breakfast at the Eagles Cafe upstairs at Pier 39. The Crab Benedict is to die for. The best breakfast around.

Too expensive!
$48 to park the car for one night. We didnt use the car even once $1.65 to use the room safe which I thought was ridiculous. They didnt have the San Francisco Chronicle, the only local morning newspaper available. I had to walk 3 blocks to get a copy. Went for coffee in the lobby @ 0800 and the coffee pot was empty.

Everything was better than expected. The lobby was nice and the rooms were, too. Every employee was friendly and helpful. And the location is perfect.

Nice hotel, great location.
The BW Tuscan Inn at Fishermans Wharf in San Francisco was an excellent experience. The room was a bit on the small side, but that wasnt an issue, didnt spend much time there. The location of this hotel is its greatest asset. Room was clean. Hotel was quiet - even though there was roof work being done. And, with the discount and promotion from Expedia, it was, for San Francisco, a real bargain.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Not only can you spend any spare time at the Wharf, you can get around the rest of the city with ease from here. This was the first trip I ever took without renting a car (wouldnt want to pay the parking) yet had no difficulty getting anywhere we wanted - AT&T Park, China Town, etc.

This was a great hotel for the price...the location is perfect, rooms are small but clean. Our room was over the drop-off/pick up valet area and was noisy when buses pulled in, but otherwise...an excellent choice!

beautiful hotel
The Tuscan inn is in a great location. Rooms are a litte small but very nice. The hotel has a very luxury type feel even though it has the best western name.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Parking fees for quests at the hotel are extremely high and you should park in the parking structure across the street for half of what the hotel charges.

Great Time!
This hotel was great for the 2 of us, although it would have been too small for our family of 4. The wine reception was fun (we were already expecting 2 Buck Chuck so it wasnt disappointing). Great location and friendly staff. Parking was expensive.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Go to Pier 39 to the upstairs cafe for breakfast. Their crab cake benedict was to die for. Our waitress told us to share one since it was such a big meal. We were glad we did because they were huge breakfasts!

non-smoking room stank of smoke the entire trip. unreliable staff.
we were given a non-smoking room. there was even a note that if you smoke in the room there would be a $1500 cleaning fee. as soon as we entered the room the smell of smoke was extreme. i called the front desk, they said they didnt have any other rooms but they would clean the room and get rid of the smell. a few days later, it still smelled just as strong. i called again and was told the same thing, they would send someone to clean. that time i stayed in and no one ever showed. i am not going to say that it ruined our trip, we spent little time in the room anyway, but coming back to the room after a long day of walking and public transportation it just wasnt very welcoming to come back to that smell every day. also, the room service was actually a separate restaurant so that was a little annoying when we had to call and tell them the room number and hotel phone number. the place was there in the lobby, so it would have been nice if they worked together a bit better. parking was valet only, and expensive. there were several hotels in the same area that had their own parking lots and advertised free parking with stay. overall, i think you can get a better deal across the street. if you are thinking about this hotel, please consider other options in the area first.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
get the city pass if you are interested in any one of the attractions and need to use muni. you get to ride muni unlimited for like a week, and two of the attractions we visited more then paid for the cost (not counting the value we saved riding the muni for free). the aquarium and the bay cruise are both incredible. bart is a separate company though. the wharf area is awesome, i think i could have spend the whole week hanging out down there if i had the time :)

Nice, but you pay mostly for the location!
The hotel is nice overall, but the rooms are very small. Parking is also very expensive ($40+/night). Its location is very convenient to many attractions.

Great location....close to all major attractions.
I was surprised that the hotel had a daily fee for using the in-room safe. In all my travels, both national and international, I have never had to pay a fee for the safe. Coffee and tea were available in the lobby each morning, which was a pleasure. However, since guests arrive at all hours, I think coffee should be available at all times. The wine/snack hour each evening was very nice and well attended. It was a very nice bonus. The lobby was very comfortable with a fireplace going all the time, beautiful flowers outside the French doors, and comfortable furniture.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Be sure to go to Pier 39 for fun, sourvenirs, and sea lions. The Mr. Toads Vintage Car tour of the city is a must! If possible, ask for Don as your driver and guide because he was great! The sunset cruise on Red Line was wonderful...good food, drinks, music, and very relaxing, especially if one has been "on the go" all day. If you like Irish coffee, make it a point to go to Buena Vista Irish Coffee which is only a few blocks from the hotel. They serve good sandwiches too---nice place for lunch.
