Local Artists Displays make it like a Museum
Nice historical hotel that is in a building that is being refurbished. Middle of downtown Bangor. No street parking, but a small parking lot behind the building. I will go back. A great display place for local artists.

Old and Needs Updating
This old hotel needs updating to make it more presentable when one first enters it. I had to hunt to find the main desk and the clerk finished her personal phone conversations (twice) while I waited to ask questions and to sign in. Our room had a tv, but only one station worked. The sink (inside the bedroom) had a faucet that was too close to the bowl so it wasnt easy to use. The walls looked like they were freshly painted and it was cleaned well, but the overall effect was ancient. We had one chair for comfort and one kitchen chair at the desk. Our bed was okay if you like rolling into each other. The breakfast was quite good - many choices. The other guests were friendly, which was nice, too. Parking was less than acceptable - we ended up parking on the street by two taverns rather than behind the hotel in a desolate parking lot with a dumpster. Weve stayed in many hotels around the world, including old hotels, but this one doesnt match up to expectations.

nice homey place to stay
The Charles Inn is an older hotel, sparsely furnished, and the bed was hard. However, I found the hotel staff to be friendly, relaxed, and helpful, and the complimentary breakfast had several choices. The downtown location was convenient to restaurants and the theatre. I would stay here again.
