A Relaxing Option

A nice hotel that is going through a little rough patch. Hotel bar was closed the entire time of our stay, I assume due to lack of guests. Pool bar was open during most days, and the restaurant held regular hours and was quite good. There is a little store next door in the condo complex where one can get supplies (beer, water, etc.). Great pool and beach. One thing the hotel did, however, really put us off. When we checked out they jammed three different types of "facility fees" into our bill for each day of stay (a generic facility fee, a gym fee, and business office fee). The fees were significant and totally inappropriate so we protested; the fees were also not disclosed at check in. Not a great way to end our stay and certainly not what we expected from an InterContinental. Still, a nice hotel, pretty beach and bay, and relaxing.

Good place to vacation

The Restuarant was not very good nor did it have diversity but it was fine for breakfast. The facilities were wonderful but the beach was not swimable.

Just OK

The hotel beach is beautiful, pool is great, and the oceanfront rooms are spacious and nice. But a lot of little things added up to make the hotel not really seem worth the price--no purified water in the room, had to go to reception 3 times before I got a working remote control for the TV, had to hunt someone down to get towels by the pool, and had to wait half an hour while checking out for them to add the breakfast from my departure day to my final bill. Also, like most resorts, there is loud music by the pool starting early in the morning, and not ending till late at night--mostly bad American hits from the 90s. Again, the beach here is gorgeous--it’s outside of town, so it’s away from it all, but I think you could probably find a place in Vallarta with just as lovely of a beach for a better price, and with better service.

Traveler's tip on shopping

For handicrafts, check out the state run "artesanías de jalisco" on Juarez, in town. It is mostly high quality stuff, the prices are better than at many other stores, and they have a direct relationship with many artesans, and promote development of local handicrafts, etc. Also, taking the bus into town is easy and convenient, and will save you about 90 pesos.
