Best place in Cancun

It’s old but has lots of style. The staff were very friendly. If you’re looking for somewhere different to stay then this is the place. It’s definitely value for money, conveniently situated across the road from a shopping centre and restaurants though they do have their own. We loved the beach and would definitely recommend having lunch and cocktails by the pool or as we did in the pool. The only thing we could fault was that the air conditioning did not always respond as we would have liked. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the beach and would strongly recommend booking the same.

OK for the cost

Nice (older)hotel. Not much to do at the Hotel itself however being able to use the Avalon Grand services (1/2 block away was useful. (We came down for a Dive Trip) The breakfast room was a little Hot (East sun comming in window (august). Breakfast was great and reasonably priced.

They did right by us.

Friendly, and helpful staff, gave us one of the best rooms in the house. Immacculate cleaning daily, excellent food, strong drinks, beautiful pool, on one of the nicest parts of the beach. We were suppossed to check out at 11:00am, but our plane didn’t leave until 5:00pm. They let us check out at 2:30pm with no charge and no hassle. Water bottles in the room upon arrivalv was great too! Will certainly stay here again.

Unfortunate

Unfortunately, I could not recommend this hotel to anyone else. Although it may have been just an isolated incident, within 15 minutes of checking in late at night, the room next to us on the 3rd floor flooded with water gushing down the stairs and into our room. Although the water ran into our room, and they had apparently cleaned up while we were having a late dinner, they all appeared unconcerned that the water was leaking from the lobby ceiling like rain, and there were still pools of water under the sofa legs and electrical fixtures in our suite. Needless to stay we feel lucky we found other accommodations the very next day.

Vacation 2009

I normally don’t do this type of thing but if you want a quiet and relaxing vacation this is the spot. This was our second visit and love the place. The staff are great and if you are friendly type you can have a lot of fun with them and a very memorable experience. The food at all three locations are as good as any resort restaraunt we have eaten at.

Memorable vacation

My mother, my daughter and I stayed Avalon Baccara Cancun last week. All three generations really enjoyed the stay. The view from our one bedroom suite was remarkable, and everwhere in this hotel was so photogenic. The structure was kind of old but creat a tasteful atmosphere. I definitely will come back with my husband next time.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The exchange rate at the hotel and the banks in the town were almost same which were better than the airport’s.

Avalon Baccara Cancun

We stayed here for a week but didn’t get what we asked for. If they tell you that you will get oceanfront, you most likely won’t. The beds in the regular rooms are exceptionally hard, but you can ask for matress toppers and they will bring them which is really great! Beach, staff just lovely. They really go the extra mile for you. Be warned, if you are facing the road at the back, very noisy! The 1 bdrm suites are really big and nice. Great hot tub but not the kind we are used to. More like a big bath-tub, and view of the road if you are not ocean front. Book way in advance if you plan to stay here and say you want ocean front, as the other ones just arn’t worth it as there are so many beautiful hotels close by that you pay the same for and get much more for your money. Do go down and check out the beach, beautiful! I will upload some great pictures for you to see. My recommendation is to stay in Akumal over Cancun, stellar beaches and quieter.

Traveler's tip on shopping

make sure you go the mall across the way and the aquarium, very cool.

We loved the Baccara

My husband and I stayed Feb 19-24 at the nice little place and we loved it. The food was fantastic at the Baccara and over at the Avalon Grand. We did the all inclusive option and also went to Isla Mujeres for a day and ate at the Avalon Reef club. The beach was a little rough on the Cancun side so we couldn’t do any snorkeling, but it was as calm as a kitten at Isla. The service was also great. The only little thing that we were disappointed about was upon arrival nobody explained the ammenities included with our all inclusive option. Had we not read the book in our room we wouldn’t have known that we could eat at all the Avalon with the all inclusive. Besides that we loved it and would definitely stay again. I wish there were more small little boutique places like this one.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

If you go to Isla Mujeres go to the Puerto Juarez ferry because it’s cheaper. Isla is a must! It is a natural treasure and my faverite part of the whole trip. You can rent a scooter when you get there and travel the whole island.

Beautiful Ocean Views

Great hotel. Stayed in the penthouse and it was beautiful. The staff is great and very helpful. Rooms need updating, but the views more than make up for it. If you want a place to stay and just relax this is the place. Would go back and would definately recommend.

Delightful ’Old World’ Hotel

What a wonderful, special one of a kind hotel on the beachfront in Cancun! It was a quaint, unique, smaller resort (only 27 rooms/suites) with beautiful suites which faced the ocean. ( The ad photos are accurate representations, I might add.) The suites are highly recommended, for their comfort, spaciousness and views! I found the staff to be warm, helpful and most gracious. Their restaurants were excellent, as was room service. Countless times I reflected on what an excellent choice I had made in choosing this hotel. And, everywhere I went, I heard nothing but positive comments when I told them I was staying at ’The Baccara". Overall, the hotel was very conveniently located, on the bus lines, only minutes to the airport, shopping malls, downtown and, of course the Beaches. When I return to Cancun, I will definitely return to ’The Baccara".

Traveler's tip on nightlife

This hotel is essentially across the street from Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville...with excellent food, drinks and entertainment! The wait staff clearly loved their jobs and made me feel most welcome and well cared for! Also, there is a nice shopping mall just across the street also, you can get anything there you need from food to drinks to clothes, etc.

WOW - very impressed!

We were greeted with 2 Rum Punches and quickly found out that this service was the defining factor of the hotel. By day two, most of the staff knew us on a first name basis and were already trying to determine our habits to better accomodate us. I wish other hotels followed this service standard! So, what else? The rooms were awesome - spacious, clean, cute and not cookie cutter. Oceanview gives you the morning sun while the lagoon view gives you sunsets (we had both). The food was to die for - just imagine the freshest guacamole brought directly to you. The Avalong grand is a 3 min walk away (we timed it) and they have 3 more restaurants to choose from. While this hotel is family friendly, it is much more catered to couples. The Avalon Grand is perfect substitute for that. We were so impressed by the overall package that we are booking again. By the way, if you’re a smoker, expect dirty looks.

Traveler's tip on dining

Stay away from Perico’s in Downtown Cancun. The bus ride was worth it; the restaurant was not. If you stay in the hotel zone, try La Distelleria for good food that is a bit pricey (family friendly), and right next to it was the best meal of the trip (and cheapest) at Santos Mariscos - fresh mexican seafood! If you get the all inclusive plan, some of the best food per value was at the pool with beer and rum punch: Guacomole, fajitas, tacos, nachos... and, ofcourse, cheeseburgers.

A very cute, laid back resort

The Baccara is nice because it’s just 27 rooms, which is very small for Cancun standards. It’s directly on the beach and has a very pretty tiled pool with an in-pool bar. The 2 hotels have it set up so that if you stay at one, you can use all of the services of the other. This was nice because the Grand had a large infinity pool that appeared to run off into the ocean, 3 hot tubs and a few restaurants. The smaller Baccara was significantly different from many of the resorts and was occupied by an older crowd. I’m sure that it is normally busy but because of the season we were some of the only people out there and it felt like we had the whole resort to ourselves. The staff was excellent and we really enjoyed sitting at the in-pool bar, chatting with the bartender. The ocean is gorgeous there and even with a high tide it’s very nice to swim in. This is definitely the place to go to if you want a little more privacy and space.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

There are 3 options for inclusiveness - All inclusive, Drink inclusive and no inclusions. If you plan on eating at the resort restaurants and drinking a fair amount, the all inclusive may be worth it. If you plan on drinking a fair amount but going to other restaurants, the drink inclusive plan is a big money saver. If you don’t plan on drinking much at all and aren’t sure where you’re going to eat, don’t get the all inclusive.

A for Avalon

Beautiful, clean hotel. Cool pool. Very helpful front desk. We booked a cheaper standard room facing the lagoon because we went exploring every day: Chichen Itza, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, downtown Cancun, etc. Our room was plenty large, with lots of windows and light, and a big patio with chairs and a hot tub. If you are doing the all inclusive or plan on spending a lot of time at the hotel, I would recommend getting a more expensive room facing the sea. But for day trippers like us, the cheaper room was fine. There is enough beach to walk on, and we swam in the sea, even though a red flag was posted every day. There is a nice reasonably priced Bistro at the front of the hotel with good American breakfasts and coffee, and you can sit outside if you want. You set your air conditioner with a remote control, and ours worked well. The sister hotel, Avalon Reef on Isla Mujeres, has a big beach you can use for free, along with towel service, chairs and umbrellas.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

You get a better deal using local currency rather than dollars. The city bus system is cheap and convenient.

Can’t wait to go back!!!!!

The hotel staff was amazing as well as very courteous and promp. They made our trip the best one we have ever had. All of the staff knew our names and what we liked after the first day. If you want a more personal experience in a smaller atmosphere this is the hotel for you. We checked out the bigger hotels but nothing compared to the Avalon Baccara. We will definately be going back to stay there.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

If you are planning on doing tours I would recommend going and talking to the travel agency across the street as they will work with you on a price for tours.

Great place

This hotel is small and relaxing. Only 27 rooms and very nice. It felt like the place was our own place. The staff was very nice and would do any for you. We had an amazing stay at this hotel and we could also go to the Grand Avalon that was much bigger and crazier. We had best of both worlds.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Definitely get the all-inclusive package. You save soooooo much money and you can eat and drink for free at each of the three partner hotels.

Would rather stay at the Avalon Grand!

The Hotel seemed to be very nice when we arrived. There are no elevators, so keep that in mind! Our room was at a horrble location for the price we paid! Our room was the last room at the VERY top of the stairs(right side of building). There were dead bugs in our shower. Everything else was very nice, and clean! The food was even quite tasty =) The Avalon Grand has a lot more activites going on, so we would venture over there and check things out, kept us entertained for free!

If you get sick and have to go to the hospital...make sure you say Hosptal Americano, it took us three hours to find the Hosptal. All of the cab drivers took us to some sort of clinic, which was really run down and no one spoke english!

Peaceful and relaxing

This hotel was perfect for us! My husband and I were there for New Years and wanted a quiet hotel, but also one that was close to the main hub of Cancun. This hotel is in the main hotel zone, within walking distance to malls, beaches, and clubs. The hotel staff was SUPER. Very friendly and helpful. The rooms were always clean and comfortable. The only thing I found odd, was that they have a coffee machine available in the rooms, but only provide coffee for your first day there. After that you need to get your own. We did request more, but they never brought any. There is a little market across the street to buy coffee and snacks. This four story hotel doesn’t have an elevator, so if elevators are a necessity this may not be a good hotel choice, however, we were on the fourth floors and had no problems. Overall, we loved this hotel, and would like to go back sometime.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

We skipped the all inclusive package, deciding to venture out on our own. We went to Walmart to stock up on fruit, muffins, milk and juice, to eat in our room for breakfast. We also liked eating at Market 28. There is excellent authentic mexican food there and it’s alot less expensive than picking a restaurant in the main hub. Try the carne asada, homemade tortillas and fresh squeezed orange juice. Yum!

We really enjoyed our time

Avalon Baccara Cancun is a small hotel and that is precisely the charm of it. My husband and I took day trips everyday and it was sooo nice to come back "home" every night. Everybody was nice, especially the waitress of the hotel restaurant. I would and have actually recommended this hotel

Traveler's tip on dining

100% Natural has the best juices and breakfasts and lunch and dinner. They are located a few blocks away from the bus terminal

Wonderful Place

The Baccara is not your typical Cancun resort. It is a converted hacienda with only a few dozen rooms and no pounding music and no entertainment staff. We had a large private balcony with a hot tub. This is an old but very clean property. There are lots of steps to climb; some may see it as a bit of exercise, someone out of shape may see it otherwise. There is a good sized pool with a swim up bar. There was no beach the week we were there. Much of Cancun is without a beach after the hurricanes did a number on it a few years back. If you have to have a beach you may be disappointed. The food was varied and tasty. The resort is right in the middle of the Hotel Zone and across the street from shopping area with pharmicias and retail stores, and restaurants. We had a good time taking the ferry over to Avalon Reef Club on Isla Mujeres. We would definitely return to this small unique resort.

Perfect for those who DONT want a big hotel

Perfect for those who lean toward small hotels or B&Bs. Terrific staff. Lovely, warm feel to the common spaces. Wonderful pool and deck. My one-BR suite was spacious and cheery and actually better than I expected. Dishes and silverware must be requested even tho the suites have a kitchen. No cookware or utensils. If you intend to cook, plan on going to Walmart to buy a couple pots and pans. Lots of wind and changeable weather in October but hardly anyone around. Unfortunate that the beach is nonexistent in front of most hotels (and access is also cut off) but public beaches are not far.

Traveler's tip on dining

Across the street in the mall I found the Mexican food joint of my dreams - Checandole. Cheap, authentic, delicious. Tacos al Pastor are habit forming. Not many tourists go there, take your spanish phrase book.

Looks better online than in reality

This hotel looks much better on-line than in actual reality. On arrival we were taken to a top floor room with a beautiful view but the room had been closed for weeks and you could hard breathe from the musty/damp smell. We asked to be moved but after waiting for 15 mins and calling, still no one came to see us. We eventually went to the Lobby and they just sat there and were not planning to move. We eventually saw two more rooms and took the second choice which was the best of a bad lot basically. You had to let the shower run for a full 15 mins before you got hot water. There was absolutely nothing provided in the kitchen. We had to ask for everything. The lights would not switch off separately from the ceiling fans. Go next door to the Avalon Grand which is so much better.

very relaxing hotel

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here at this hotel. It is fairly small in the sense that it only has a dozen rooms or so, which made it that much better. The friendly staff knew us by name and were more than happy to let us know about local sites and activities, as well as tequila tasting when we were rained in. I would recommend this hotel to anyone not trying to be in a high rise hotel with 800 other guests but still wants all the extras (pool, restuarent, bar...). This is the hotel people stay at and then later consider a timeshare in Cancun! :) Happy Travels!

Great Bargain

We loved the private and intimate feel of this small hotel (although we did have the 4th floor room so lots of stair-climbing). We did the all-inclusive deal, which made the trip a great bargain for us. You can visit any of the sister hotels and eat/play there, which we recommend. We upgraded our room from the Standard and the view was gorgeous!

Traveler's tip

If you do the all-inclusive eat at the Avalon Grand and be sure to go to the free shows and activities. Oh and bring your IPOD to the hotel if you love music at the poolside. We also caught the bus to ferry at Puerto Juarez and paid $14 RT to Isla Mujeres (sister Avalon hotel s there). Did Yoga on the beach, had meals, drinks, snacks at the beach, and took showers at the gym. On the ferry back, we sat on the top deck and a local musician played the guitar and sang for tips. Enjoy!

A Mexican Palace!

I felt like I was in a Mexican Palace. The whole hotel had the Mexican ethnic feel to it from the adobe and colorful tiles. The location is right in the middle of the Hotel district where all the shopping and restaurants are! It is right on the beach, literally! The pool area is practically on top of the ocean waters, the waves crash almost into the hotel itself, you can sun bath and hear the crashing of the waves. It is has breathtaking scenery of the tropical blue-green water. It has a little restaurant that is cozy and offers delicious food for reasonable prices. The staff was very accomadating and wonderful. I did think that the bed mattresses were quite hard and there is a musty smell in the rooms. (We stayed in two different rooms, same result). There was also a major water leak in the main lobby the morning we left. I’m not sure what happened there.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

You can get around on the bus system just fine! The busses come every 5 minutes or so and it is very inexpensive, a few cents per trip. Taxis are also very abundant and available at all times, however be prepared to pay more. Always come to an agreement of the fair before getting into the taxi!
