The Cal Neva Hotel is an old hotel with a lot of history behind it. The hotel itself is old and probably could use a face lift, but it was clean and comfortable staying there, The location was excellent. The affordability and its location made it worth while. I will go back and stay, and would definately recommend it to others.

False advertising

At their website, they rave about the pool on the California/Nevada state line. This is one of the reasons I chose the hotel. The pool was small and dirty and definitely, not heated. I asked the staff at the desk if the pool was closed and they weren’t sure. By our second day the staff told us the pool was closed, but it wasn’t marked as such. Thank God, they had a large in-door working Jaccuzi. The view from the gazebo area is incredible, especially at sunset and they could have an awesome outdoor pool if it was maintained. Although there is an arcade, I don’t recommend this hotel for families. One must go through the smokey casino in order to get to the hotel room tower.

GREAT ROOM

What a wonderful room at a great price. We were very pleased with our room and the courteous staff. Will definately go again. The price was incredible considering it was a holiday weekend ( Labor Day). The upgraded us to a room with a partial view, the room was vary spacious and clean.

Traveler's tip on dining

Next time you are at Cal Neva or anywhere in North Shore eat at a restaurant called Soule Domain. It is across the street from Cal Neva on a small side street and it is the best food by far anywhere in North Shore. Very romantic and the ambiance is wonderful. We go everytime we are in Tahoe.
