lots of work to be done
the hotel is under renovation, however that is no excuse for indifferent service and lack of cleanliness: housekeeping had no clue what to provide as a non-skid mat for the bathtub; the pool area opened at 7 am on Sunday morning but at 8 am the trash (including food garbage) had still not been removed, the floor and seating was grubby, there were no towels and, despite 2 phone calls to the front desk, none were provided. new management had better get its act together; it will be a long time before I try staying there again.
Reading has an Art Museum that few visitors know about: set in a small picturesque park with a walking path, it has 2 floors of natural history exhibits and fine art from the permanent collection; there is often a special show - Chihuly glass art in the past, Hollywood costumes now until May 2010. The Planetarium presents several shows over the weekend. All very relaxed and family-friendly.

Not what I expected
I stayed at a Crown PLaza before in SF, CA and this doesn’t mesure by any means. The overall hotel condition on a scale of 1-10 is a 7 or 8... but as soon as we started walking the hallway to our room, I can smell a moldy smell in the hallways, not to mention we had to take stairs to get to our room, and we had our lugage, a baby, a car seat...etc. Not excatly easy to do. The room and bed were very nice, clean and comfortable. We only stayed overnight. We pretty much checked in, slept, got up and checked out and didnt get a chance to try or see any other parts of the hotel so I can’t judge. However , I was told that it was as nice of a hotel as it will get in that area.
