Not Really an Airport Hotel

This is a great property but it is about 15 minutes from the airport. This property is not on the airport exit.

Glad we found this hotel

We moved from another hotel down the street when the power went out, and this was such a nice surprise! Great hotel with many conveniences in very nice lobby (including Starbucks) and the friendliest girl at check-in who helped with extra blankets and a wake up call. Would definitely stay here again.

Weekend Getaway---Good overall stay

Suite was excellent except that the bed was too soft for my taste. Everything else was fine. Employees were friendly. Marriott needs to discontinue the parking charge on weekends, since there is nowhere to go without a car it the hotel’s location, especially with the economy the way it is. You would attract more locals.

Highly Recommend

This Marriot was a great stay. The rooms were very nice and super clean. Beds very comfortable. The breakfast was fantastic. Made to order omlets, everything else you could want, and amazing fruit. Have paid $20 dollars for breakfasts in other hotels that weren’t half as good!

Friendly Staff

This Marriott is not cheap, but the facilities are well kept, the rooms in very good shape and the staff very courteous and accommodating.

Traveler's tip on dining

Trader Joe’s is just down the block from the hotel and is a great affordable option for dinner. Whole Foods is just down the 101 and easy to get to from the hotel.

Not impressed

Not bad for a night in transit, but the hotel is dated and my room smelled heavily of male sweat. The bed was clean and comfortable. Bill padding, e.g. large amount of onsite parking requiring additional payment, with few viable alternative options, more than a little mercenary!

Bad parking n biz practice. Good facilities with known name brand.

I would say this hotel is great for its room overall, balancing out its room quality, tidiness and maintenance (which is not very good). However I felt upset when I found out at checkout that they do charge $16 per day for self parking at the hotel where no other businesses near by even need a gate for their parking. And there is no alternatives for parking except on side streets at the residential streets close to the hotel. They said everyone else (hotels) near the airport charges parking. But they are 4 miles off the SFO airport. Also, no one tells me at check in and other places except on a sign at the parking gate at the less obvious place. I felt like I am being asked to pay for a meal on a 15 hours flight without advance notice which you don’t have much choice at the moment. Talking to the manager to complain only yield one day waived parking out of the 3 days stay. I didn’t take the offer since I dont’ think it is right biz practice and the one day charge isn’t really that significant. That left a very bad impression at check out to say the least.

Weekend Getaway

I have stayed here multiple times and the experience has always been excellent. Reserved the executive suite with breakfast, which was very good. Room was very comfortable and quiet. Note: Free parking on weekends would probably entice more locals .

Perfect for adults and family

WE loved staying here. My son and I shared the Executive suite and my sister and her family stayed in the "Loft" room. It was a fun place to stay. The staff were excellent and the room service employees were lovely, bending over backwards to please us. There was a full bar in the lobby and the bartender made the perfect Gimlet. I was very impressed. It might be expensive for some but that wasn’t an issue for me, convenience was.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Just down the street from the San Mateo annual Makers Faire.

Very impressed. Met or exceeded all needs.

Needed to be there original stay (3/19/09) hotel and staff were very curtious and accomodating. Had to return one month later (4/16/09) for same issue and the hotel went above and beyond expectations. Staff was curtious, accomodating, helpful, the room was very clean. Highly recommend staying for any reason.

Almost a decent place to stay

I can see what the hotel is TRYING to do... but the bartender was rude. The smell of pot was heavy in the hall as I made my way to my room. The room itself smelled like body odor. There was a pubic hair of some sort on the bed. However, The room service food was great. The person that answered the room service request was great. the quality of the bed, linens and sundries were excellent. Quality of the TV was good. Checking in and out was easy. The fitness facility was clean with good equipment - although a couple of the treadmills were inoperable.

Don’t expect any service

The hotel has decent amenities, but don’t expect any service from them. If you are lucky, you’ll get house keeping service.. We didn’t receive one.

nice hotel but small rooms

This is a very nice and clean hotel. Restaurant has an excellent but pricey breakfast buffet. Rooms were neat and clean. Had HD Plasma TV’s in both rooms. Living area had sofa bed for kids which was an added touch. I was disappointed with the size of the room. I expected a suite with 2 separate areas. However, there was just a glass wall with see-thru curtains separating the living room from bedroom. Suite was very small. I also didn’t like the idea of having to pay additional per day to park. I don’t remember seeing this cost in any Expedia documentation. I wouldn’t stay there again with kids.

Nice hotel, not much around it

The hotel itself is very nice and the staff was pleasant and helpful. The biggest drawback was location. There is a mall a short drive away, but few places to go otherwise or sit down and eat. The surrounding area left a bit to be desired. Drive in to San Francisco was manageable but traffic made it frustrating. Close to airport, but not right next door. Seems like an odd place to put such a nice hotel.

Not really any restaurants within walking distance or close to hotel. Closest area was Foster City which was a 5 to 10 minutes drive across 101.

Not too happy

We checked in at 900 pm. We drove our car and asked for parking info. The receptionist was happy enough to bill us, but failed to let us know the nearest parking spot to our room. Going to our room was a long roundabout. Even though there was a desk and 1 chair, there was no place to put our snacks on, unlike some hotels that provide a small sitting area. I’m not going back to that hotelif I can help it.

Great for what we needed, except for one detail

We needed a suite to accomodate two small children, and the Marriott had a perfect setup with a separate bedroom (king sized bed) and living room with a sofabed. The bathroom was also huge, which is nice when you have 4 people sharing it. Our only less-than-satisfactory experience was when we requested a crib, and it took them almost 10 hours to deliver it to the room, after 3 callbacks. The front desk reps were friendly and responsive, but that responsiveness did not translate downstream to the people actually fulfilling the request.

Request the crib ahead of time so that they can plan for it. I suspect that there were no cribs availabe, so they either had to wait for one to free up or go buy one.

Very poor experience

The rooms were pretty nice, but nothing special for the price and location. Two of the front desk staff were rude and unhelpful. I was there for a large conference. The food quality was poor. They had one bartender for a social with 200+ people. The public restrooms on levels one and two were out of order for most of the conference. Charging $10 a day for a slow Internet connection so last millenium. You even have to pay to check e-mail in the business center. No restaurants or shopping within walking distance. I’ll never stay there again.

Inconsiderate people can bring any hotel down the rating scale

Room was very nice and well appointed. One night of our stay was particularly unwelcoming. Unfortunately, guests from an affair that was being held at the hotel were less than refined (I am being very polite) and did not mind smoking and making noise in the halls (of course the air flow then pulled the smoke under our door and those of other guests. How nice.) Got to love those smokers. Smelling like a dirty ashtray was not my intent when I checked into the hotel. Also, if you want hot coffee, go to the nearby 7-11, because you will not find any at breakfast, unless you bring a portable microwave with you. Almost forgot, the outlet in my room was not properly anchored/wired and blew the fuse and left us without electric one morning. I need to remember to bring my toolbox next time (Exaggerated a bit, but you get my point. Minor inspection should have easily caught that. Could have been a real problem for those with little children, as well as huge liability for the hotel.) The hotel desk could have done more and been more timely in their response to matters.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Very near the highway interchanges and San Mateo bridge. Convenient location for going in any direction. 10 minutes to airport and 25 to the heart of S.F. (with no traffic). Good luck with that.

Very comfortable, I would go back

This hotel is very clean and comfortable. Make sure you have a room away from the main doors. Possibly in the second floor or so. If you don’t mind paying a little extra to get more comfort, then I would do it. The staff is very very helpful.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Make sure you are away from the main doors. The workers will use it alot in the morning unless you’re an early bird. Do not book a car and hotel. I found this to be bad. I think it would be better to book each one individually.
