Same price category but with different size rooms
We booked 4 rooms but we noticed all 4 rooms were different sizes. Same price category for all 2 double beds rooms, but the size of the largest room had a seperate sofa and fridge area with a decent size bathroom. Our room was a tad smaller w/o a fridge, and a small bathroom where the tissue roll dispenser pushes against your right arm when you’re sitting on the toilet. My brother’s room came in as the third largest just 2 double beds in a tight room with a larger bathroom. And at last, the 4th room had a bedroom just fitting two double beds and a bathroom just as small as ours. Just beaware when comparing rooms with the same price category, you might get disappointed. Otherwise, there were no complaints with the hotel staff, service, and the cleanliness of the hotel.

This hotel is one of the cost friendly hotel if you want to stay in downtown Toronto. It is close to some night life where we found various pubs and clubs.

Exceeded expectations
My first time at a Howard Johnsons in about 30 years; I remember them as dumpy places with orange roofs. The one in Toronto was surprisingly upscale for the price. There was an extra daily fee for parking, and the entrance to the parking area is not well-marked -that would be my one mildly negative comment. There was a free continental breakfast which was adequate. Otherwise, service was very gracious and our room, while small, was quite clean and attractive.
