Two words "SHARED BATHROOMS"

On the plus side it was a bit cheaper then the other hotels in the area. On the minus side, first the above mentioned shared bathrooms - which I did not notice mentioned anywhere as I was booking the room, if I had known I would have gladly paid the extra money for a private bath. The room itself was tiny and, while appearing clean, REEKED of some sort of cleaning fluid. It was also 90 degrees (on an October day with temps in the 40’s) so that I had to open the window and run the air conditioner all night. A very loud airconditioner, I might add, which was less than three feet from my head (did I mention that the room was small?). My coat smelled of cleaning for three days afterwards.

No bathroom

the room was absolutely tiny. A full bed touching three walls. No bathroom. No amenities. For way too many dollars. Not worth it. Spend a little more and get something nice.

Horrible stay ever

It was my worst nightmare. Please do not ever try to book this hotel. When I reached the hotel, i found myself in a pothole. It was dirty, small and shared bathrooms were at it worst.

I was not impressed at all

I was not satisfied at all with the hotel, the room was very small no cool air in the room, and you had to share the bathroom with the entire floor. I was so upset with the hotel condition that I checked out 1hour after I got there.

Times Square Best Value

You are a couple blocks from times square, clean room, and inexpensive, perfect for a stay where you’ll be site-seeing all day, and out all night. Def worth the value. Would stay there again. Recommend highly.

Good if you’re busy seeing the city

This is more like a hostel located a few short blocks away from 42nd Street and Times Square. The hotel staff was friendly but not everyone may like community bathrooms scattered throughout each floor. I planned on staying at the Americana Inn long enough to sleep and shower. For the most part, the hotel fit perfectly for how I I wanted to use it. Because of its location, on busy nights, you will hear the sirens through your windows. I slept with the television on when the reception was good on some nights to help block out the sirens. My only other gripe was dumb, ignorant, rude people walking and talking loudly like they were at home at 3 in the morning. But, this problem can happen at any hotel, motel, or hostel no matter how nice and elegant. Again, use the television to block some of the noise. The rooms are kind of small so if you are planning on spending a lot of time in your room, you should consider some place else. But if you are busy enjoying the city, meeting people and don’t plan on staying in your room much, this is a very economical way to enjoy New York.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Great location to Central Park, United Nations, Bryant Park, Subway stations, Broadway and Times Square.

The problem was with thew shutle, I had te right for two sutcases, I the guy cherged me for my secod luggage. Very unfair, since we all have the right for two. He was Very impolite when he charged me. I hope you can let them know about it. Thanks.

Affordable and clean

Hotel is very close to Broadway. Room was clean, did not have to wait to use bathroom. If you don’t mind sharing the bathroom, this is a great buy.

Cheap, Clean, Well Located

For a graduate student doing research at the New York Public Library, this hotel is excellent. It is a block away from the library and Bryant Park, which is a great place to hang out in the evenings, and very affordable for midtown. Staff was pleasant, room clean. Yet, do not expect much space or free wifi or cable for that matter.

Tiny, tiny room, but tough to beat the rate

Stayed here one night. It was about the cheapest I could find. It was clean, adequate. Absolutely no bells and whistles, just a bed, a sink, a closet and window overlooking the street.

Good place, afordable

About twin 2 beds room. Room was small, but enough for us. There was A/C and heating system in the room. Shared bathroom, but clean as the place. Price afordable for two people. Excelent location! I would stay there again. Ask for a room in the back side of hotel, those might more quiet. Stafs: not rude, but not nice! Medium. Negative points include: 1.Internet acess is paid (very expansive!), a non-conventional system is used to surf on web and very slow. There is no wireless signal and just one computer avaiable to use in the loby 2. Phone calls is not usual, they will charge you even for free calls.

It’s clean

Yes, its clean...but is there such thing as too clean? It felt like living in a HOSPITAL’s bathroom.

Bad permanent residents.

The price was great, the room was clean and comfortable, however the permanent tenants were the opposite. I would not recommend this hotel for any females traveling alone.

Great Budget Times Square Location

Don’t expect the Ritz Carlton but this is a great place to stay that is clean, well kept and relatively cheap. The location is perfect for seeing NYC. Close to broadway, several tour bus locations and shopping on 7th Ave. It was also walking distance from Grand Central Station.

Not bad at all

I have been to New York a few times in the last 2 years and am always looking for a more inexpensive hotel, considering I do not spend much time there at all. This hotel fit all my needs and the price was right. If you’re looking to save money on your hotel stay so you can spend more of it enjoying your trip this is the place for you. The place was nice and clean and secure. The pictures of the place are a bit deceiving though, the place is a little more aged in person. Please keep in mind you are getting what you pay for here, and don’t forget to try and get a room in the back of the hotel as the front was quit noisy.

Nice location, great price, Eurostyle lodging

As a place to sleep and shower, the Americana Inn is fine. If you are looking for the "comforts of home" or any hint of luxury, then spend your money (likely much more money) and stay elsewhere. The hotel was clean, room was adequate and service was great.

Traveler's tip on dining

Great Indian Restaurant on the other side of the same block: Curry Delight. Good food, great price.

Super clean, great location, a bit loud

I was surprised by how clean the hotel is. My unit faced the street. Window air conditioner unit facing street is akin to having window open. If you’re used to sleeping with loud sounds in the background, shouldn’t be a problem. Otherwise, ask for interior unit. Location is fabulous. A couple blocks from NY Public library, a little farther to Times Square.

Affordable Good Location

Americana Inn was very clean, the staff friendly and helpful. It was, indeed, very sparse and utilitarian - not luxurious. If you want to go to NYC and spend your money on enjoying the City instead of a place to stay, then this is the hotel.

Excellent value and location...

I was a little wary of booking a room with a shared bath, but the Americana Inn allayed what few concerns I had. Rooms are small, but clean and efficient. My biggest fear - the bathrooms - turned out to be a non-issue. There was one shared bathroom for each cluster of 3-4 rooms, and with approximately five "cluster" on each floor, there was never a time where there wasn’t a bathroom available. The bathrooms (and the rest of the hotel) were spotlessly clean. The location in central mid-town is unbeatable. The building is secure, and the availability of the 24-hour deli across the corner was super convenient. I will definitely stay here on every future trip to New York!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The main reading room of the New York Public Library (on Fifth Av and 42nd Street) offers a beautiful location for some quiet time in the bustling city. If you have a laptop, log on to the free WiFi to connect to home and your email. In good weather, sit out on the front steps and watch the world go by, or enjoy the tranquil beauty of Bryant Park just behind the building (also with free WiFi).

Economy Right Near Times Square

The Hotel Americana is a great place to stay in Midtown Manhattan. Just a few blocks from Broadway theaters and Times Square, this hotel offers great rates, a friendly, helpful staff and clean comfortable rooms. Perfect for tthe single traveler. Shared baths are not an inconvenience. There are plenty on each floor and very clean. I plan to stay there on all my future visits to New York.

Good, for the price

I found the hotel to be a very affordable alternative to the hostels. Great for a short stay when you don’t plan on spending much time in your room. While the shared bathrooms may be a turn-off for some, they were always clean and available. Considering it’s great location, it really can’t be beat for the price

Decent, but no frills...

...of any kind. This is a pretty basic operation--linoleum floors throughout, rooms in which you can touch opposite walls at the same time if you stretch. Nothing wrong here, and a steal, given the price and location. Just very spartan. If you can get a discount and need a cheap solution, this is a decent bet (just not where I’d take the kids).
