Location & service was great

While it is an older property, the service and location was fantastic. The pool was nice and warm, towels fresh, room well kept, and a very responsive staff. Location to beaches, parks, restaurants, shopping was all fantastic. I recommend breakfast on the Spyglass Inn Restaurant patio outside--overlooking the ocean and the fresh air were great. The coffee was good, and they offer a basic breakfast at a discount for hotel guests. My husband loved the Italian sausage and eggs for breakfast, and my son loved the bacon. We had a great time and I would recommend it as family friendly for sure, while also a romantic location for couples.

The Spyglass Park is super great for kids. Just minutes from the hotel.

Don’t walk on the Carpet Barefoot

I think that this hotel is ready for some renovation.

Nice, family getaway for a reasonable price for the value

I liked this hotel and it was a good value. It was a short walking distance from the private beach and a short drive to the larger beach areas/tourist attractions. I loved the Spyglass restaurant too. We ate there mostly every day. It has a great view of the ocean and good prices. The food was good too. They also gave me a $50 coupon to use when I come back. I definitely plan to stay again.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

This hotel is on the mainstay as other places that may cost more, and is a good value. Why spend much more if you are planning on being out all day at the beach?

Love Pismo

Found this hotel on Expedia and was a little hessitant because of the reviews. What were people talking about? We loved this hotel, the best views of the ocean right from the patio of our room. The bed was super compfy and an all around good experience.

The view was incredible

We had a wonderful stay at the Spyglass Inn. The service was great, the room was comfortable, breakfast in the resturant was good and the ocean view was more than just a peek of a corner view, it was the entire balcony.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Great location right off the 101 and down the street from Downtown Pismo.

Uncomfortable beds, poor restaraunt

We recently stayed a the Spyglass Inn for a few days. I was pleasantly surprised to see how close it was to the beach, just a short stroll to the beach, and the views from the Inn were spectacular. Less spectacular was our one and only meal at the Inn. We trudged in tired from our drive and hungry. Though patrons were few at that time of day, and staff was lolling about, it took them a long time to stroll over and take our order, and it seemed to take a long time for our meal to be prepared as well. However, the Inn is just a short drive from the downtown area where there are plenty of tasty restaraunts. Our room was simple and tidy, but the beds were horrifically uncomfortable. I got up the next morning with an aching back. The prices were very reasonable, and I might come stay another time, however if I do, I’ll bring a foam mattress or something to alleviate the discomfort of the beds.

Clean but misleading

The rooms were nice, however the robe they so generously offer actually cost $50 if you wish to use it. That should really be specified on the amenities. And the pillows were way too big; we woke up with stiff necks. The on site Restaurant was nothing special however the price of the food leads you to believe it is. But again the rooms were nice. And they had free cookies and apples at the front desk. Nice touch.

Very comfortable

Good location, clean and comfortable.

Traveler's tip on dining

We had a great dinner at Steamers, a few blocks south of the hotel - a little expensive but worth every penny

Not recommended

We booked a king suite with a fireplace, when we got there they gave us a room with no fireplace. When we asked for a room with a fireplace they acted like it was a burden to try to get us one. The room was nice with a great view, but we were on the very bottom floor and the ceiling above us must have been thin, because EVERY single step the people took above us it squeeked so loud. I would never stay in this hotel and I would not recommend it. I was not satisfied with the service or the quality, for the price you pay!

It was OK but nothing special. Nice big room. There wasn’t much ventilation choice. The Resturant’s food was good and enjoyable.

Nice clean accomodations amidst luxury resorts

Here’s the deal. Spyglass Inn is an older facility perched up on the bluff next to two other high end hotels. Spyglass is older, more quaint and provides everything those higher priced places do, except for huge fancy rooms. Ours was nice, comfortable and clean and it was all we needed. The kids loved the pool and hot tub and the beach was only a 5 minute stroll away. If you want fancy, there’s plenty of choices but this affordable, family-friendly place was perfect for our stay.

There is another beach access and local park South of this hotel, just down the street. It’s Spyglass Park and it’s got a lawn area, small playground and beach access (not for the timid) too. Good choices of eateries nearby too.

A Pleasant Surprise

My wife and I went here for aa anniversary and had a nice time. You lay in the king size beds and look out at the ocean. We liked the fact it was outside of Pismo so it was even quieter. As I told the manager, they need to upgrade their pictures that are on Expedia, it’s much nicer than in the photos. The only negative is that if you’re on the main floor you’ll hear every step from the people above you. The first night it sounded like Frankenstein was walking around and the second a little kid played soccer in his room all night. It’s an old hotel, although kept up nice, so you have do deal with it. We very much enjoyed ourselves and will go back next time probably stay on the upper floors.

Traveler's tip on dining

There’s a great Italian restaurant just across the street so you don’t have to worry about driving if you drink too much wine! Also the restaurant on the premises is good too.

Spyglass

Spyglass is a nice place to stay in the Shell Beach - Pismo Beach area. On the cliffs with spectacular views. It is one of the older "classicc" big hotels, and as such it is a bit old fashion and worn down by its age. If you want a new modern fancy hotel this is not the place. If you want a nice, affordable, cozy hotel then Spyglass is perfect for you.

Traveler's tip on dining

The Spyglass Restaurant is quite good. Also, The Steaming Bean is a terrific coffee shop/cafe right up the road.

Spyglass Inn - a decent place to stay

Not bad but about 3 miles outside Pismo Beach so not in the heart of anything really. Beach is about 1/3 mile away and you have to climb down stairs about 150 ft down and up again. Tough with kids and beach stuff etc. Rooms were clean and tidy. Asked for rollaway bed and although it wasn’t in room when we got there, they got it delivered while we went to the beach. I would maybe go there again although would likely look for something closer to Pismo Beach.

Unassuming place with a gorgeous view

This hotel was probably the hot thing in town until the newer resorts next door were built. Almost every room has an ocean view, and there is direct beach access from the hotel. Rooms are comfortable and the food in the restaurant is good though slow in coming. A good deal for a short term stay.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

The tidepools next to the hotel are fabulous!

Nice romantic place

Not a new hotel, but it is charming and comfortable. Scenery is fantastic. Restaurant was not great, and a little overpriced. Would stay here again.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Less than an hour drive to Hearst Castle. Worth the trip, but make reservations for a tour ahead of time or you might have to wait.

Pleasant Surprise

The exterior of the hotel wasn’t much to write home about, so I was really impressed with the room’s updated interiors and comfortable beds with decent bed linens. Aside from the usual offerings of toiletries and coffee, they even offered complimentary bottled water in the mini-fridge. The only negatives about this hotel is the very poor service and quality of the restaurant and the small, unsecure pool (no locks). I also wished the room had a microwave.

Low key and very nice

This hotel was great. On the ocean away from main part of town. If you want to walk to town dont stay here its about 2 miles. My wife and I were looking for a nice place away from the crowds and this place was perfect. The resturant attached to the hotel does not know about some of the discounts offered by the hotel and we had to remind the bartenters every time we went in for a cocktail. I look forward to staying here again.

Okay room, beautiful area

The rooms were fine, nothing fancy but clean, very good discount breakfast, and it was great to see all the dogs around (it’s dog friendly). The ocean view from the bluffs was beautiful.
