Good option for budget-conscious traveler

In the Berkeley area, there tend to be two choices for accommodations: expensive, or crummy. Rodeway Inn hits that perfect spot in between the two. The room rates when I stayed were reasonable for the area. The rooms aren’t fancy, but mine had a fridge, which was much appreciated. Beds were comfortable (but never as good as home, right?). They also offer free wireless internet, though in my experience, their network connection slows to a crawl somewhat often. Rodeway Inn offers a free continental breakfast, with okay choices including English Muffins, frozen waffles, yogurt, apples and the requisite unripe bananas. The space to sit and eat is tiny, so don’t be surprised if you have to bring your breakfast back to your room! I never had cause to make special requests of the hotel staff, but in all my encounters with them, they were very polite and efficient. Rodeway Inn has plenty of free parking, and is a short walk from the North Berkeley BART station. Therefore -- convenient to anyplace in the Bay Area that is served by BART!

Sufficient...

The room was clean; service was friendly and available. Not a luxury hotel, but fine for what we needed.

Great Bargain

We enjoyed our 2 day stay at Rodeway Inn Berkeley. They made us feel right at home and went out of their way to make us comfortable and welcomed. Would recommend this motel without hesitation. The free breakfast was good and the use of free Internet was an outstanding feature.

Bette’s Diner in berkeley is a most due for brunch.

Good alternative

Location is very good, even to commute into the Valley (at the right time). Berkeley and San Francisco (quite close) are much nicer places than any Valley town. The hotel is really a motel, with the usual noisy AC/Heating unit below the window and that’s the only bothering thing if you are not a good sleeper!

Old-fashioned in a nice way

It’s a nice motel from a bygone era. About a 20-minute walk from campus. Very good Mexican restaurant across the street. Free wifi. Easy parking.

Decent place in Berkley

Recently stayed at the Rodeway Inn in Berkley, CA. Had flown into Oakland late from the East Coast and needed a place to just sleep before heading to Napa. Room was clean and nice size. It is set up like a motel with the rooms directly accessible from the parking lot, so depending on how lightly you sleep you will hear cars coming and going during the night. The hotel was very close to UCBerkely campus and right near tons of restaurants with a Mexican restaurant open late right across the street.

Surprise at a moderate price

The small room seems to have been recently renovated, especially the bathroom, with marble-looking floor and wall tiles and modern fixtures. Much nicer than expected in a not very nice part of Berkeley. Clean, relatively quiet, since set back from the road. Would use the motel again.

Completely adequate

This is a 50’s vintage older style motor court in good condition. Rooms are small but clean and comfortable and street noise is well-muffled. Management is friendly and helpful and serves a decent continental breakfast in the front desk/lobby area. Note: There was no coffee maker in the room, although there is a microwave and mini-fridge, but if I’d thought to ask, a coffee maker would have been provided.

Great Deal, Perfect Location, Small Price!

I recently went on a road trip across the entire state of California. This was by far the best hotel I stayed in throughout the entire trip. We were on a budget for all of our hotels and this was one of the cheapest places in Berkeley. It’s right on University which makes it easy to get to UC Berkeley. It’s close to the BART and bus stations, restaurants and a grocery store are all in walking distance. The hotel was recently remodeled and it all looked and worked great! Nice size refrigerator and microwave...and a new flat screen TV! What more could the budgeted traveler ask for?

Traveler's tip on local attractions

If you have time at night, take a drive up Grizzly Peak/Mtn through the Berkeley campus (along the road you would take to get to the campus Botanical Garden). There’s an amazing view of the entire city!

pleasant and friendly place

This was my second stay at the Berkeley Rodeway Inn and I found it to once again be a pleasant spot with helpful and accomodating staff. It is a step above a typical motel--It feels as though it has been recently re-done and has continued to be well taken care of. I arrived very late and slept in having missed the breakfast provided. The clerk was kind enough to offer me something to eat in the morning after I came into the office. Always helpful... I will return.

It works

Clean room, decent(semi-sketchy at night)location, nice continental breakfast for the price. No views, but what do you expect? I will definitely be back, if I stay in Berkeley.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Fine organic coffee almost next door(just south 100 feet)

Rennovated bargain

Hotel was rennovated in 2007. Quality shows everywhere. Breakfast was more than adequate, though breakfast space was a bit tight. Good location on University Avenue. Used public bus to UC Campus.

Two Nights at Rodeway

Clean, excellent breakfast with apples, bananas, cold cereal, fruit bars, breakfast rolls, bread and English muffins as well as coffee and juice. The room was comfortable, but not huge and there was little drawer space. Those would be the only two small drawbacks, if they mattered. The TV was flat panel, which was a nice effect.

Pretty Good For What it Was

Hotel wasn’t fancy. It was really clean in every regard though. The microwave & fridge came in handy. There was a decent number of channels on the TV too. Many good restaurants & shops are within walking distance.

Good, cheap, clean

If you need a place to crash and little else, this place is perfect. Don’t plan on spending any extra minutes. Don’t expect feather pillows either.

Pleasantly Surprised

The reviews are what convinced me to stay here. It was one of the most economical places to stay in the area. They did a good job with the renovations.
