Convenient, Comfortable, Modestly Luxurious
The site of the Monaco is hard to beat: across the river from, and in plain sight of, the Trump Tower. The rooms in the Monaco are about 1/3 the nightly cost of those in the Trump, and it is difficult to imagine that the Trump could offer anything more satisfying. The service in the Monaco is impeccable, the rooms are pristine, and the location is perfect for museum visits, nightlife, public transportation, and instantaneous access to Millennium Park.
Chicago Architecture Foundation, on MIchigan Avenue, just a few blocks south of the hotel and across the street from the Art Institute, offers regular, amazing walking, bus, and boat tours of the citys architectural wonders. The docents are extremely well informed and entertaining. The foundation also maintains a store with filled with the best books and souvenirs available on Chicago architecture.

Gem
I used to stay here years ago and had forgotten about this friendly and wonderful little hotel. I was then - and was again now - always pleased with the hotel, the staff, the room, the amenities, the location - it is a great find in downtown Chicago and I highly recommend it.

Nice
Nice hotel. Parking cost $42 though, did not expect that.
