Excelent choice when visiting Sacramento

We had a pleasant stay at this hotel and would definitely recommend it. We stayed at a two-room suite and was just perfect for four adults and a child. The kitchen, dining and living areas allowed us to eat some meals at the hotel and made it feel we had returned home from a day’s outing. The complimentary hot, buffet-style breakfast was far superior to the continental breakfast offered at other places. The location, a few seconds off the freeway, made for quick access without being noticeable impacted by road noise. Every staff member we had contact with was extremely friendly and made our stay very comfortable.

Cheap, and about right for the price

Considering the price, the quality of the accommodations is acceptable. The rooms are pretty big and reasonably clean. The bed was comfortable, with good, clean sheets. The towels were also clean, but abrasive. The hotel buildings look and feel worn. The room I was given at first had a broken toilet. Luckily, the place did not seem very busy and I got a different room right away.

Freewy close and that’s about all

I felt that everything from the carpeting to the drinking glasses were not clean. Extra soap and (forgotten) tooth brush were provided with no problems. Breakfast was FREE, but did not look appetizing. Easy freeway access.

A very nice hotel

The room was very spacious and pleasant. We especially enjoyed the breakfast.

Very happy - Great value

Big two room suite made for a nice family get away. Kid had her own room, and we had ours. Lots of TV’s and places to sit. Plenty of parking.

Good value for the price

The room was large and had all the amenities of home. Very comfortable. Breakfast had hot items which is always a plus. Just had a problem with our room key at first. Was rekeyed and worked fine.

Outstanding Facility, But...the Staff?

We were actually quite surprised by how nice the Hawthorne Suites facility is, particularly for the price. The breakfast and dining room were excellent. But, the front desk staff acted as if there was nobody standing in front of them; taking personal calls, not greeting you, talking with other hotel staff, and similar, BEFORE taking care of the hotel guest. Showed very poor training and supervision.

Nice place to stay

The hotel was clean and had all the amenities I needed. It seemed to be a struggle to keep towels at the pool for use, but other than that, I was very satisfied. Great hotel for the value.

It was a wonderful room!

Our party include my husband & I plus our son & his wife. The two bedroom suite was perfect. We were able to use the kitchen for cooking meals. The living area was comfy. Additionally, having 2 bedrooms & 2 baths made our stay very relaxing. The pool area was also inviting. We enjoyed the breakfast each morning. We’ll definitely return when we’re back in the area.

EXCELLENT HOTEL

We enjoyed our stay very much. We loved the room we had...They provide towels at the pool. We walked to Old Sacramento. You are in walking distance of the Sacramento River and Downtown Sacramento Mall. Our daughter left her stuffed animal and the staff was kind enough to go look for it before we turned around to go back and get it. It was a great stay!

Centrally located but not much of a view---dirty

The room was spacious and the beds were wonderfully comfortable. The cleanliness was less than acceptable. The bthtub was dirty and the toilet seat had hairs on it...yeeech! The refrigerator had gunk on the bottom shelf and the glasses that were suppose to be clean, we would not drink from.

If you only want a comfortable bed and won’t be spending lots of "down" time in the room, it’s a great value. But be prepared for unclean rooms...

Spacious, affordable, convenient location

We requested 2 cribs. The staff told us they would be there in about 10 minutes. We waited closer to 2 hours to get the cribs which affected our twins nap time. It is also good to note that the two bedroom suites are designed so that the bedroom walls do not go to the ceiling so light and sound easily transfers to the main living/kitchen area. The free hot breakfast buffet was well stocked. Hotel is in a very convenient location for visiting Sacramento sites.

Rooms were OK. Service and breakfast were good. Older hotel but great price and right off I-5 making a good stop over place.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Try it you’ll like it. However, if you are planning to go to the Airport, Park your car in the economy parking lot. Don’t pay to leave your car at the Hotel, it’s too much!

OK, not great

Hawthorn Suites is OK but not great. For example, you could only get hot water from the sink by the bathroom. Also, the room "keys" (cards) quit working both days I was there.

Located just a very short drive from Raging Waters.

I would recommend, except for one reason

The hotel is clean, spacious, quiet, comfortable, well-situated away from the bustle of the downtown where the rooms cost a lot more. t has two restaurants and a McDonald in within 2 minute walk. Two more within 5 minute walk. The hotel provides pretty acceptable breakfasts for free. It has small kitchen. Showerhead throws strong stream of water. The bed is wide and comfy. The cable reception is bad. Internet connection is rather slow. But these are trivial stuff, unless you need to do all your business and porn surfing in your room. One major problem is that there is a work release facility nearby, and transients are loitering always. My rear hatch window was smashed--major damage, costing more than $600. The hotel security personnel contacted me at 4am to alert me of the break-in. The hotel employee are very good, and helpful. The Sacto PD had a station within 2 blocks, but refused to come, when requested. I hear they are busy attending to more heavy-duty crimes--Thank God. No, they won’t come to you for such a small crime, but you can file the crime online--how convenient is that! Next day, a cruiser was parked on premise all day! I guess the hotel management got on the phone! No transients in sight anywhere! The proverbial fixing the barn, after the horses are gone! Although I have my part in the incidence--negligence of not removing any valuables--I feel the security should be better, considering all the factors I just listed.

I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel, it is close to a few restaraunts and a comfortable place.

convenient location; quiet nice for older hotel

generally clean, but w/ old carpet & some stained furniture, & regularly used by airline pilots on overnights. convenient not just to downtown, but other attractions as well; walking distance to old town, shopping, etc. Avoid Monterey restaurant; food is dry & nasty, regardless of what was ordered

Avoid Monterey restaurant next door; while you get a 15% discount w/ room key card, the food (party had 7 diff dishes) is dry & nasty, & wait staff rushes you out.

Dirty Room

The room we were given wasn’t very clean and it stunk like an old abandoned house. The bathroom had a lot of mildew and the toilet was obviously not cleaned.

Wll look forward to returning next year.

This very comfortable and clean hotel is ideally located to all points of interest in Sacramento. Great restaurants nearby and very easy access on and off a major freeway, but far enough away to be quiet. The hot complementary breakfast is very good with multiple choices. We will be happy to book this hotel again next year.

Our only complaint was the quality of the toilet tissue. Take your own.
