Outstanding hotel

This lovely, comfortable hotel is a short walk from the train station--perfect if you arrive in Salzburg by train. The staff was friendly and very helpful. On the day we arrived, the receptionist provided us with all the information we needed to get around Salzburg effectively and how to best enjoy the sights given the limited time we had there. Our room was very clean, comfortable, and quiet. The breakfast was excellent. Our stay at the hotel was most enjoyable, and it made our short visit to Salzburg all the more memorable. On our next trip to Salzburg, we will definitely stay at this hotel again.

We would definately go back!

The service was great and the room was clean with a comfortable bed. It had a good restaurant attached to the hotel. It was also within walking distance of the train station and the bus line which made it very convenient. We enjoyed it there very much.

Close to Terminal

The hotel was pretty clean and accessible by a short walk from the bahnof (train station). The staff were cooperative and helpful. The breakfast spread was wide and tasty. An added attraction to me was the indian restaurant close by. Good place to stay in Salzburg.

A very conveniently located hotel

This hotel is located very close to the main station (about 5 min walk), which is a big plus for travelers. The staff is very friendly and the room is clean and comfortable.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

If you travel by train (like many people do), I recommend this hotel since it saves you time and money. You do not need a Taxi and all you have to do is to take a bus to wherever you want.

A well run hotel

It’s very close to the train station. Room is big and clean. Breakfast is included and very good.

Very nice hotel

This hotel is a 3-5 minute walk from the train station. The hotel staff was very helpful and very friendly. Everyone spoke very good English. Because it is close to the train station, it is about a 20-30 minute walk from downtown where all of the sights are. We had a tour booked each day, they picked us up at our hotel then we were dropped midday back in town where we could walk around and enjoy everything. There are buses that run all over but we walked along the river back to our hotel which was very nice. I would stay there again.

Good Choice

The hotel offer an excellent service. They where very helpfull. My son had an emergency at the middle of the night and within few mintues they called a doctor and even gave us more tawells. they recommend us where to visit in Salzburg and the area. The room is big, very clean and comfortable. the hotel is ubicate within 150m from Saltzburg main train station. The breakfast was good and they didnt charge any parking fee. The Hotel is more a 3 star hotel than a 4 star hotel, but it worth every dollar. I strongley reccomend this hotel.

Wonderful Staff

When we arrived, the lady at the front desk appeared to ready to serve our needs. She had answers to all our questions (this was our first time traveling to Europe). The hotel breakfast was WONDERFUL in every way. Variety and presentation. Location was GREAT. Even though it’s located on a fairly busy corner near the main train station, with the windows closed, it was very quiet. Beds were nice and firm. Bathroom was very modern and clean!

Sorry, I believe the name of the restaurant was DIE WEISSE, but the hotel recommended this great place for local beer. The food was wonderful. The atmosphere great! Obviously, this was a place where the local congregate!

Not impressed...

This hotel does not deserve a 4 star ranking. The service and the food was moderate at best. Our room was clean, but the beds were very uncomfortable. AC and internet are extra charges. Most concerning was the location. Although conveniently close to the rail station, the neighborhood is sketchy, noisy and dirty.

Salzburg in February

Very nice hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. All of the staff that I encountered spoke very good English. The room was adequate. It was a very comfortable size for two people. It is only about one block from the train station, which was great for us, since we were travelling by train. We did not have any noise problems, but then it was February and we had the windows closed.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The Salzburg card is a great deal. You can get one for 24, 48 or 72 hours. It covers most of the museums and attractions in the area. It also includes the local bus. We definitely got our money’s worth out of it.

Very average

Location is very convenient -- a short walk from the central train station. It should definitely not be listed as a 4-start hotel, however. The rooms/service/breakfast are all very average.

Back Again -- Great Place

I returned to the Salzburger Hof in late August, after staying at this delightful hotel in June. Wonderful hosts -- they make it their jobs to be helpful and courteous to guests. I’ll be back.

Very good location, helpful staff

Der Salzburger Hof is 2 short blocks from the Salzburg train station and main bus transfer point. The room we were in was comfortable, although I should have paid the extra 5 euro for an A/C, since the street outside has a lot of traffic all night. The breakfast was very good, plenty of food, and a good variety. The staff is very helpful and friendly.

A small hotel with a great staff

The front-desk staff at Der Salzburger Hotel in Salzburg is the best I’ve ever seen in terms of help for visitors, advising on restaurants, looking up different tourist options, etc. We arrived at the hotel, an easy two-block from the railroad station, just as a tour bus operator was in the lobby waiting for us to board his bus for a Christmas Eve tour to Oberndorf and the annaul "Silent Night, Holy Night" celebration at the birthplace of that famous Christmas carol. The staff grabbed our bags, stored them and sent us on our way without evening having to check in. Great people! One minor point: the beds could be a little firmer.

Nice Surprise!

The hotel and staff were very nice in the middle of the hustle and bustle of a large city! The theme rooms were quite fun! Breakfast was so pleasantly managed by the staff and the food was excellent! What a pleasant surprise for us as we had never been to Austria and the hotel was so accommodating! I would recommend it to my friends and family.

Very Comfortable

Hotel was very comfortable and the service was good. Full breakfast included. Located right by bus and train stations but not in the center of town. Room not air conditioned but not unbearable.

Very Good Choice

Stayed here nights of May 18,19, and 20th. Like others have noted, this small, family run hotel has an excellent wait staff, large buffet breakfast and is one walking block from the train station and bus pick up. This made it very convenient for a day trip to Dachau and then on to our next stop in Munich (both about two hours a way via the train). It is not in the Old Town area of Salzburg but is easily reachable via public transportation covered by the Salzburg Card. My only concern was our room faced a busy, noisy street. I would certainly return to this hotel but next time request a room facing the courtyard area. As nice as these people were, I am certain they would be attentive to the request.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The Salzburg Card is okay. I made the mistake of buying 72 hour cards and, even with a lot of use via the buses, probably did not get my return. Salzburg is a city of walks, Cathedrals, people watching and charming restaurants, not a city of paid sites to visit. We used the Card for the Fortress, both Mozart homes, and one other thing that slips my mind. It does provide for a free river cruise.
