negative impression
unbeknownst to me, i found out at check-in that the motel was under rennovation. i was the only guest and other rooms were occupied by workmen and families living there. toilet, coffepot and radio were all broken. supposed breakfast never happened, as "people who did the breakfast could not come in due to car trouble."

Less than stellar
Our first stay at a Knights Inn found the room to be functional. The air conditioner ran (loudly) constantly obviously without thermostatic control, as it got pretty cool on the "Low" setting at night. The icemaker on the second floor was out of order (from the looks of it, it had been for some time). The only opportunity for eating in or around the motel was a lunch room that stayed open only from 10am til 2pm. This motel is conveniently located to the downtown Abilene area and is within a 10 minute drive of the Expo Center. It was also devoid of boisterous activity after 8 or 9p on both nights we were there.
Traveler's tip on dining
As mentioned above the nearest dining opportunity other that between the hours of 10a-2p is several blocks away.

Pleasantly surprised
I travel to Abilene frequently, but this was spur of the moment, for only one night and close to the holidays, so I thought Id save some money. There was a mix up with the reservation, their system did not show that I had paid through Expedia, but was resolved with one phone call to Expedia. The desk clerk was a little flustered, more for me being inconvenienced, but friendly and pleasant. The room was a comfortable size with a refrigerator and micro-wave,and though a bit aged, extremely clean. I was surprised to find thick, fluffy towels and plenty of them, but the toiletries were in little packets like ketchup. Having stayed where there are none, I carry my own now. Im anxious to go again for an extended stay and try out the cafe.
