Beautiful Hotel with excellent service!

The staff at this hotel was great. My room was very nice as well and the lobby and business center area were also very nice. Great gym as well. Only disappointment was the pool was under construction.

Traveler's tip on dining

This hotel was extremely conveniently located as there were so many great restaurants to choose from and a great shopping mall - all attached to the hotel!

2 star hotel, no more

Air conditioner didn’t work for 2 days in a row, internet, not working. Shower, broke! Blankets (no duvet!) and pillows: bad and old. Localization: perfect. This hotel must have been beautifull and good 20 yrs ago, but they didn’t take care of it. A real waste of money.

Was a Wonderful Experience -- Luxury After a Safari!!!

This hotel is rated in the World’s Leading Hotels list and rightly so! It is a magnificent, beautiful and comfortable hotel smack in the middle of Sandton City, the new Johannesburg, South Africa. The physical beauty was just overwhelming, and my room overlooked Nelson Mandela Square with its lovely outdoor cafes and large, inviting patio. With regard to the service I couldn’t have asked for more...having just come off a great safari and feeling a bit grubby, walking into this room with all the amenities and comforts was like a respite from heaven before continuing on with the journey...breakfast was included and it offered such variety and the staff was so courteous and welcoming that I’m beginning to sound like an ad for the place...or an employee! It is directly adjacent to the Sandton Mall, so you can spend an entire day there shopping until you drop and then enjoying all the nearby restaurants without having to venture far away in an area that is known for not being as safe as it could be. I would recommend the Michelangelo to everyone!!!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

For great deals go to the Sandton Mall. Because of the exchange rate for American dollars you can pick up such treasures for such a little amount. Shop ’till you Drop!!

terrible

the room decor was old and tired; so was the design of the carpets; the TV was old -style (no plasma tv); the telephone also very old; the bed-linen was not even Frette; the bed-spread ugly and no welcome amenities were in my room. when I complained they said that welcome amenities were only for "regular" guests or those paying rack rates. I told them that was pathetic. How will I be a regular guest if I am treated so badly on my 1st visit? In comparison when I stayed at another hotel in the sandton city shopping complex, I reecived a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates and fruit as a welcome gift; also had cookies in the evening at turndown. Stayed at the Michelangelo beacuse I thought it wasthe best hotel to stay in. I was advised wrongly. Will stay at the other hotel adjacent to the shopping centre next time. Also wasnt happy that the spa was closed on sundays and also closes at 6pm. In comparion, the "other" hotel has a spa that was open till 9pm.

Michelangelo Hotel South Africa

It is a very beautiful hotel with attentive service yet Housekeeping was a bit spotty. The room was turned down for 1 person instead of 2. Called them and they were quickly there to correct that. We also didn’t receive a newspaper delivered to our door. Nothing major but when you belong to The Leading Hotels of the World, you must live up to that. Plus, hotel is pricey. The eateries around the Nelson Mandela Square were good and the hotel is connected to a fabulous Mall.

Great location... needs to be freshened up

Great Great location... service is friendly and efficient. Despite everything will stay there again. The atrium inside and the caourtyard (Mandela plaza) can be noisy... there was an event going on outside and inside and the noise-levels were unacceptable. I stayed there when they just opened a few years ago, the rooms have not been re-freshed... looking a bit worn on used... could use an freshening up.

Location, Location, Location!

The hotel was great; the location was excellent! Staff members were responsive when needed. Buffet breakfast was very ample, even for the most hearty of appetites. The only slight disappointment we experienced was with the indoor pool. My pre-teen son loves to swim, but found the 1-meter deep pool too shallow for his tastes. That might be why I never saw any other guests in the pool during our entire visit (6 days). Also, watch carefully the check-in/out times. Our flight did not depart until 7pm, but we had to check out at noon; asked for a late checkout, but hotel was fully booked. However, due to location, we were able to hang out at the adjoining malls and do some last minute shopping and catch a movie.

Traveler's tip

Jo’burg is well known for its crime; however, this hotel seemed to be in a very secure location. Do not advertise wealth by flashing expensive jewelry or other articles.
