Good for its standards
On the whole, Flagstaff is a nice town with good weather, friendly people, easy traffic so the hotel also fits in nicely. Some others may have shared less desirable experiences but perhaps they are comparing with the comforts of a 5-star hotel. Howard Johnson Flagstaff is relatively cheaper, so hey ho! I enjoyed the daily breakfast spread but did not try the pool (too cold!). The bed is also too soft for my liking but is just me. Some others commented on the noise of the train but I kind of like its rustic charm plus is not as near as some other hotels that are situated next to the track.

Really Nice
My room was very clean and comfortable upon my arrival. Because I arrived well before the scheduled arrival time, this hotel allowed me to check-in and occupy my room.

Good and basic : )
The location of the hotel was great. 1.5 hours from grand canyon. (take the scenic route. beautiful drive) and 1 hour from Sedona! Sedona is a must see by the way . We stayed in one of the 2nd level rooms (116) closet to the train tracks. So you may hear the train occasionally . But honestly we were so tired it did not matter. The bed way comfy and the room was a nice size. It had a fridge, dish sink and even a safe. There was a waffle maker. Beside that the breakfast was good and basic. Enough to get you going in the morning. Room was clean , smelled clean and the ac worked great. I would stay there again if I was traveling on a budget.

ask for a room away from the train tracks if you are a light sleeper. See Sedona!!!
