Staff need to be more hospitable and friendly
This is a pretty average hotel. Everything was fine apart from the attitude of the staff, some of whom were not firendly or hospitable. On arrival, a young male employee of Middle eastern/Asian appearance aged around late 20s or 30 was working on reception. He didnt even say "Hello" or ask how I was. Every time I returned to the hotel in the evening, he was there, and he totally ignored guests coming into the hotel. He was so absorbed by watching films on his laptop computer. One day I left the hotel and wished another older employee on reception "Have a nice day". He simply glared at me as if I was an extra-terrestrial! Perhaps my problem is being too pleasant to people, or simple manners escaped him. Only one person, an older male employee in his 50s, was regularly pleasant to me, chatting away merrily and taking an interest in the guests. It should not be too much to expect employees in the hospitality industry to actually be hospitable. Otherwise we might as well go and sleep in a garage. Concerning the room, it was fine. Nothing great, a decent size though I did notice some grubby traces left on the doors where people had opened them further up than where the handle is, so they need to wipe this with some detergent, otherwise everything was fine. Just because of the attitude of the staff, Id like to give another hotel a go the next time Im in San Francisco.
Best time to go to San Francisco is in September or October, when the weather is still usually pleasant, and the fog has lifted from the Golden Gate Bridge.

Good reasonable place to stay for a night or 2
Good hotel for the money. Not the friendliest at the desk but sufficently helpful. They will park your car in an overnight garage for 21$- convienant and safe. Also helpful to walk a few blocks to the state building to get a day pass to ride unlimited on the buses, trolleys.

clean quaint convenient dive, helpful staff
this place has obviously been around for a WHILE, but [although it shows,] its for a reason. the location seems sketchy at first, but is no more so than the rest of the city, which you can get easy access to via its central location, and a very accomodating front desk staff that can help you find anything and everything youd want to do, along with a way to get there. rooms, hallways, and elevator are small and simple with vintage appeal, but well maintained despite the age of the building. nothing too fancy, needs wifi, but its a nice little place to hang your hat, shower, etc if youre planning to spend most of your time out and about. p.s. buddy system recommended if you plan on getting ice/visiting the vending machine.
