Father/Daughter Trip
My daughter and I read reviews before we left for our trip. The negative ones were written by people I believe would never be happy. The hotel is in Bastille and located near a main subway hub which was perfect for our excusions. The staff was very helpful, checked in early which was a real plus after flying all night. The balcony afforded a great view of all. It was clean, quiet and offered everything we needed. Still has some renovations going on, but not a problem. The sex shop everyone wrote about next door you wouldnt even know was there other then the sign outside. Overall I would highly recomend this hotel for its value, location and very helpful staff.

Decent hotel for the price and location
When I arrived well before check-in on Monday morning, I was checked in right away and did not have to wait. There was a problem with the electricity on the first day. It was off and on for most of the day. The elevators, of course, did not work when the electricity was down. Having a room on the 6th floor meant I had to use the stairs. I was told the hotel was in the final stages of a renovation. The renovation of the interior of my room had been complete. It was simple and tasteful. The room and bed were comfortable. There was minimal noise and I slept well all four nights. The hotel front desk staff was inconsistent. Some were very helpful and knowledgeable, while others seemed aloof and uncaring. The restaurant in the hotel did serve a full buffet breakfast; however, I chose to eat elsewhere as the food did not look very tasty and I had difficulty getting service upon walking in. Also, it seemed expensive relative to cafes around the corner. I was also a little disappointed in the price of the internet service. It seemed a bit pricey for me. The location is good - just down the street from the Gare Lyon train/subway station.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
If its your first time to visit Paris, take the time to learn to use the subway system. It is extensive and will take you all over the city. Using it will save you precious time and money.

Great Hotel:
As of mid-Sept 2009 the lobby/dining area renovations were coming to a close. Very helpful staff, no language barrier, willing to go out of their way for the guests. Good location with Gare de Lyon station right next door. If you like the night life in the Latin/Germaine quarters then the Bastille District is not going to meet your expectations. Lots of restaurants and bars near the Opera House but nothing like the Latin. The rooms were recently upgraded, large and modern; not your typical French hotel room. Nice, clean place, I will stay there again on my next buiness trip.
Traveler's tip
Tips for the traveler: Watch out for the gold ring dropped on the ground near your feet scam; ignore and walk away, dont agree to keep the ring, nothing is for free!!! Also, when asked if you speak English by the pan-handlers at Notre-Dame and the Eifel; respond with a quick German Nein and they will leave you alone!!!
