Hotel Sylter Hof Berlin

Very good hotel, friendly staff, excellent - but expensive - breakfast buffet.

Hotel Sylter Hof is a modern hotel in a neighborhood of newer buildings a ten minute walk from the Europa Center near the center of former West Berlin. The hotel is very modern and very well furnished, maintained and managed. My single room was small but comfortable with a full bath with shower and all high quality fixtures. Breakfast was somewhat expensive but with an extensive european and American food selection to choose from, including an assortment of tea and very good and unlimited coffee. They had an assortment of free German only news papers to read over breakfast and take along afterwards.

Business travelers would perhaps be better off in larger hotels which usually offer internet access, small conference rooms, and other business oriented facilities. My visit to Berlin this time wasn’t business related and therefore I had no reason to determine what business related functions the Sylter Hof offered. However, my impression was that the hotel seemed oriented to tourists and tour groups.

excellent location but NO airconditioner

Truly an excellent location blocks from the KADEWE and Ku’damm for shopping galore. Pleasant short walk to the Tiergarten. Right across hotel there is an excellent little market(for water and snacks), and great bus line right outside of hotel...but I wish they’d mentioned that there would be no airconditioning due to remodelling during the time I would be there. It will be an even better hotel once the remodelling is done and airconditioning is working again!

Cross over to Plus(small market)where you can get your water, snacks(great chocolates and cookies), and beer for much much cheaper than your hotel minibar!

good value for your money

Hotel was nicely situated and close to e.g. a nice Vietanamese restaurant with great service. The room was big and the bed was comfy (I’m very picky with beds and they have to be soft enough). Pretty small bathroom though and there was something wrong with our bathroom door so it wouldn’t close without a loud bang. We were too tired to complain since we only stayed there two nights and basically only came to the room to sleep. Hotel was very quiet even though they were renovating the lobby. An ok place that I recommend for those who need a nice, clean and quiet place to stay close to everything and for a reasonable price.

Good for single travelers

The hotel staff is vry helpful and will go out of there way to help. The room is small but you basicly just sleep there so that isn’t a problem. No A/C available but the fan provided was good. I was there in May and A/C wasn’t much of an issue. Room and bathroom was very clean, and if you need a gumibear fix they leave a small package everyday.

As others have said Hotel is on the 100 busline which takes you throughout Berlins major sites, Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Unter Liden strasse, and many others. Bus stop is in front of hotel. Get the Berlin card if your planning to see alot of museums and publis transport. The card gives you reduced prices to museums, tours, and some resturaunts, comes in 24,48, and 72 hrs the cost is paid upfront.

Great Location

Great Location, handy to so many things, the park, shopping, sight seeing. The bus stopped in front of the hotel, takes passengers to the main attractions. Berlin, so much to see, so easy to get around.

Great Hotel in Berlin

This hotel is very nice. The rooms are clean, but I did get stuck with a smoking room when I requested non-smoking. The rooms are slightly run down, but the location is great.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Most of Berlin is walkable, but if you don’t want to walk, take the Metro. Be sure to spend time at the Topography of Terror and the Holocaust Memorial, they are both unbelievable.

l will definitely go back to this hotel

centrally located and very close to all activities like shopping mall,restaurants and pubs,metro station is also nearby,strongly recommended if you stay for leisure or business.

Convenient Location

Near all transportation, Berlin Zoo and the bus to Tegel Airport. Shopping and entertainment nearby. This is not a fancy hotel but perfect for a few nights in Berlin.

Great value and location

The hotel is nothing fancy but close to the train station and the main sightseeing bus line stops in front. Rooms are clean and basic. Front desk reception was excellent and very helpful

You get what you paid for

The hotel was acceptable for the price. One front desk staff can be less discriminatory. Twice I sought help from her, both times I was intentionally ignored and the other guest had to remind her that I was there first. other than that, everything was fairly good for the price. The location is great. 5 min walk to/from the U and shopping.

If you don’t have a lot of luggage, take the X9 bus from Tegel to the zoo train stop to connect to the U or the S. It costs 2.10 and you can buy the ticket on the bus. It will probably be as fast as a taxi.
