Nice Boutique Hotel. Disappointing Reception.

My spouse and I stayed at this boutique hotel in the past. We like the hotel’s location and proximity to everything. Although our room was small, and we had to walk up 4 flights to get to it, it was very clean, quiet and comfortable. My main complaint is with the service. During our 4 day stay we felt the various reception staff to be a bit unfriendly. They serve a very nice extended continental breakfast with delicious coffee. However, again, the gentleman who served and cleared breakfast was a bit unfriendly. To be helpful, I brought our dirty cups and dishes to the cupboard near the kitchen area each morning and, although he saw me do this, he never said thank you or greeted me with a smile. I would be remiss if I did not say that one of the porters was quite accommodating and friendly.

Great place in the heart of Montreal

Great hotel near the heart of Montreal. The room was small and in the basement, which was not what we were expecting from the price, but kept the room cool and enough privacy for an anniversary...which was cool. It had a beautiful European feel to it...lovely place to stay.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Lots of shops and restaurants just two blocks away...made for great nights even when we were too tired to head to St. Catherine’s.

Good hotel - likely to return

Friendly helpful staff. Would certainly go back - not the same choice of rooms though.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Good location for museums, restaurants, shops and conveniently located near the metro and buses. Avoid street level rooms - a little too dark for my liking. Not worth the saving in room rate.

Good location

Overall I was very very satisfied with the hotel. The complimentary breakfast and newspaper were a nice touch. However, this hotel does not provide internet for free...they charge per day. which I thought was a little beneath them. Otherwise, I would recommend staying here.

Just lovely

This hotel was lovely and such a pleasant surprise. The staff were really helpful and friendly and my room was fantastic. I would definiately stay here again and would highly reccomend. It is also in a really central spot and close to the subway. I really liked the small boutique hotel feel.

We will stay again....had a wonderful trip.

The only negative was that we were promised a King bed and the hotel’s idea of a king bed and ours was very different!!!

Tropics in Monteal in November?

First, this place tries to position itself as a boutique hotel. In truth it is an old hotel -- really a collection of row houses strung together -- that has some old charm but none of the amenities of a real boutique hotel. Nice, large room and bathroom -- but my colleague’s was the size of a shoe box. So you take your chances. My biggest problem was that the heat was broken in my room two fo the three nights, and the temp ran in the 80s (F). And they could not fix it. I was dying! There is a lovely complimentary breakfast, and the price was good. But this is not a hotel I would return to. Too funky and not all the pieces fit together.

Intersting, but...

Really cool looking euro-style hotel...till you get inside. Staff was great but no parking (valet at $24.00). No elevators, but lots of bell boys. One room was so hot, we needed to move and could never get the heat off. Street noise was bad. Room that we got moved to was postage stamp sized. But, breakfast buffet was tremendous.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

If you want "quant" with funky, it’s all yours

Great choice if you don’t mind stairs

Hotel was very nice with a good location - quiet area convenient to Art Museum and 2 blocks from Metro stop. Staff was helpful with ideas and recommendations, and breakfast buffet had good selection and quality. No elevator, with a flight of stairs from street to lobby and more stairs to rooms on 3rd floor, so would not work for someone with limited mobility.

Boutique hotel, prestige location

The original Chateau Versailles hotel is lovely, quiet, and well-situated for the Golden Mile, museums, shopping and McGill University. The rooms are big but there are no elevators and no free wireless or business centre. The Versailles partner hotel across the street, the Meridien, is aimed at a younger, more business-oriented crowd, with sleek decor, a bar, and a restaurant that serves both hotels.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Both Versailles hotels are decent value for Montreal and give you the same prime location. However, if you’re in Montreal for festivals, francophone or allphone culture, or to see Old Montreal, look further east and save yourself the travel time!

I will DEFINITELY stay at this hotel again!

Without any advance knowledge of this hotel, I booked online and was pleasantly surprised when arriving in Montreal. First of all it was very easy to drive to this location. The street is a beautiful, tree lined street full of art galleries and a college and just very lovely and quiet. The staff was so welcoming and charming and they were more than patient with all my "touristy" questions and concerns. I loved this location as it was in the heart of downtown, yet quiet enough to enjoy. It was a one block walk to the metro and right on the bus line. We walked to St. Catherine street and Crescent street to be right in the midst of the heartbeat of the city. The "Continental" breakfast was an understatement. My wife and I could have stayed all morning and enjoyed all the pastries, fresh fruits and asstd meats and cheeses. It was first class all the way. If there was any negative at all, it was that there is very little parking there and so we are pretty much forced to have them valet park our car at a cost of $24 per night. This wasnt posted on the website and so it sort of took us by surprise. Although my options were limited because there is no on street parking that doesnt require payment via a meter, so it would have cost me more than the $24 to park elsewhere. However the valet was most accomodating, helpful and friendly. We will Defintely stay there again and I highly reccomend this boutique hotel to adults as there is not a lot of "kid" diversions available.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

A great inexpensive night out- the comedy nest at the pepsi forum on atwater as well as Burgers & Benedicts restaurant before or after the show. All very reasonable and great quality.

Generally satisfied

We were satisfied with the hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only thing we did not like was the fact that there was no temperature control in our room. The room was very cold and we had to ask for a small heater.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

This hotel is close to the Montreal museum of arts which has free entry. It’s also close to St. Catherine shopping area as well as the Crescent street restaurants and cafes. The Mont Royal park is also close by. It’s a short walk to the Metro station.

Sightseeing specialty

Location of hotel is central if looking to enjoy sights and sounds of Montreal City. Walking distance to downtown, restaurants, museums, etc. Hotel has B&B ambiance but lacks in facilities (no elevator, no parking). Otherwise, great stay for us.

Great Hotel

We chose this hotel for a vacation stay because we wanted something with some European charm. it absolutely filled the bill. A nice comfortable room. A nice breakfast with fruit, many breads, cheeses, etc. It is not a good place if you have trouble with stairs---There is no elevator. Good location--two blocks from Metro and 10 minutes walk to dozens of restaurants offering whatever cuisine you desire.

Great location

This charming hotel has the atmosphere of a B&B.It’s excellent location and excellent value make it a logical choice for any future trips to Montreal. We were most greatful for the central air conditioning and extremely quiet room during a rare heatwave in Montreal.

Old World Charm with New World Convenience

A superb small hotel for the sophisticated traveler who knows the difference between luxury and glitz and who enjoys the understated grace and charm of a European-style hotel nestled amid the attractions of a 21st century international city.

Great location and staff

This hotel was only 2 blocks from the Guy-Concordia Metro station. It was walking distance to a lot of restaurants and museums. The hotel had a lot of charm and personality. The room was very comfortable and clean. The staff was outstanding. The complimentary breakfast had something for everyone. I was very pleased with this hotel and will definitely stay there again.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The Metro is a fast and reliable way to get around the city. The stations are clean and well lit. The trains run every few minutes even on Sunday. If your stay is several days, a multi-day pass will save you some money.
