Nice
A good deal. THe young guy working the front desk(works the evening shift) was so nice and helpful. I think somebody complain but never let the staff know of the problems.

A nice, convenient place to stay
This is an old-fashioned/Old World/National Preservation hotel, and completely charming. A comfortable bed, a nicely re-done bathroom, good cable ... who can ask for more! Housekeeping could have been better. The room was fine, but I had to go to the front desk to get a coffee pack. But that was a minor inconvenience, all considered. Located downtown right on Granby St. at Tazewell, and a convenient walk to the convention center, a shopping mall, shops, restaurants, theatres, and a revival movie house. A very nice grocery is just down the street.(Yeah, theres a homeless shelter across from the grocery, but we were never approached or hassled.) The continental breakfast is just that: do-it-yourself waffles, cereal, bagels, muffins, coffee, juice, and yogurt. If you want more, theres a nice place just down the street. Parking is a few blocks away, but still handy. A parking pass from the hotel is $15/day, with in-and-out privileges, but $12/day if you stay put. We never had a problem finding a space. Downtown is torn-up (late Sept. 09) to put in a light-rail line, and there are some empty store-fronts, but the hotel itself off-sets that. A nice place to stay. Well certainly come back.
Traveler's tip on dining
Just down Tazewell St., across from the hotel, is The Big Easy, a cozy NOrleans-style restaurant. Wonderful food with a lovely presentation. (When I rave about broccoli or succotash, you know the foods good!) Just down the street from the garage is the Freemason Abbey. The management was friendly, our server (Brian) superb, and the food and ambiance could not be better, from appetizer to the bread pudding dessert. If we lived in Norfolk we would dine regularly at either place.
