basic but good location
This was certainly a no frills hotel but all we need was a place to sleep. It was clean and the staff were very helpful. Location was great, close to beach shops and the bus stop was right outside the door.

Not Luxury but great location & best price
Look if you are a person who loves luxury hotels, don’t stay here. If you are looking for a great location with a great price, this is your spot. The hotel is a historic landmark and centrally located. It reminds me of a "old west" hotel with a broad 2nd floor veranda which is kinda of cool. So parts of the hotel will reflect this age. Best to get a room with ensuite bathroom, these rooms have been updated. Not for the prissy traveler. More for the traveler looking to spend more time on the town than in the room.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Hit the city Lagoon, the Marina, & Reef Casino. Some mornings downtown, right outside the Hides Hotel vendors set up a kind of market. Some nights in the same place bands play at the band shell. Also hit the NIGHT MARKETS, this is the place for souvieners.

You get what you pay for
Seems a little expensive for what it really is but what you are really paying for is location, location, location. The best part of the hotel is the terrace so make sure to visit and spend some relaxed time in it. Easy walk to everything there is to see in Cairns.
