Not the newest hotel in Cairns, but a perfect stay.

I stayed one night (May 2009). Check-in was smooth. Room was clean. Everything in perfect working order. Bed was comfortable. All rooms have balconies.

Good location in Cairns

The rooms are a bit dated and have that typical wet carpet smell that you get in the tropics. But, for the price it was just fine and the location was excellent. Lots of choices for shopping and eating within immediate walking distance. The outdoor pool is fine (unheated!), but there is no spa/hottub.

The owner stole my room!

My husband and I originally planned to stay for 2 days...we liked what the town had to offer, so we decided to extend our stay in Cairns and at the hotel for 3 more days - BIG MISTAKE!! We asked the front desk if we could extend, they said fine, no problem, but to guarantee our lower rate, we would need to do rebook online (this was fine). Then, after i did that, they said the owner of the hotel was coming in and has specifically requested our room, so they had to move us to a room that was half the size!!!!!!! However, when it was time to move rooms, they couldn’t find the new reservation, so we needed to leave our bags and carry all of our valuables on our snorkeling trip. The front desk was so incompentant is was beyond belief. For all of this, I would have rather switched hotels and at least had the hassle for a nice room. To top it all off, they forgot our wake up call and we almost missed our flight. This is not worth the discounted price - stay at another hotel that costs a little more.

Traveler's tip

Local attractions are minimal, but Cairns is a great hib for trips to the Great Barrier Reef and to the Rainforest.

Thank you for your feed back and comments of the Pacific International Hotel, which I have investigated and would now like to offer our findings. The initial booking was made/confirmed in a hotel Standard room, and upon arrival guests were given a complimentary upgrade into a Deluxe Room. When extending their stay this room was unavailable and guests were offered/extended back into a Standard Room. The hotel owner did not stay at this hotel, as he manages the Hotel and lives nearby. The Standard Room is smaller than our Deluxe room, but still spacious with balcony and views, and all room details are available via images or the virtual tours on the Expedia Website as well as guests having the opportunity to inspect the room prior to extending. Reception offer complimentary locker/storage at the back of reception for storage of valuables during a room move. As to the missed wake up call, please accept our sincere apologies, this incident has also been followed up with the respective departments, and systems have been put in place now to rectify this. I do hope that the above details highlight our commitment towards improved customer service. Once again thank you for your comments, - we take all feed back very seriously, as it is our opportunity to develop and grow our customer service to ensure guests a most enjoyable stay here in the tropics.
