My sister and I really enjoyed staying at the hotel. It was our second trip to Cozumel and also our second time to stay that this hotel. The hotel is geared towards kids as well as adults. We went on a snorkeling trip that the hotel personnel recommended, a boat called ’The Fury’ and it was amazing. We went to two different reefs and saw 3 sea turtles and several dolphins. The hotel rooms were great. We hardly spent any time in our rooms but we did meet a lady that complained that the rooms were not extremely luxurious. But we didnt even notice or care since we were never in our rooms. The hotel staff is friendly, rooms were cleaned everyday, and the beach was amazing. I found at least a dozen sand dollars while snorkeling at the hotel. The food was great! Tip people that you find helpful as they only get around 12$ a day, which is standard, and probably why they can employ so many people. Lots of stuff for kids to do including a small water-park. Entertainment there for kids is great but not so much for adults other than bingo-which I found fun. Remember to use your safe in your room, that goes for anywhere you go in mexico. But I love this hotel and would recommend it to everyone!!

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Ask about the snorkeling cruise called the FURY... it was amazing and they had all you can drink beer and margaritas for only $45 bucks for 4 hours of fun. You get to see the island and dolphins and sea turtles. They also take pictures of your family that you can buy that are amazing.

Hotel nice, diving great, but food lacking

Rooms were nice and clean, however very humid despite A/C and walls/roof paper thin. Food was mediocre - not terrible, but never great either. The entertainment at night was very loud through the entire complex and kept us up late into the night. However, the diving was great and very convenient - short (5 min) boat trips to most dive sites. Beware of the sales trip to the new occidental resort.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Rent a jeep and take a trip around the south end of the island. Make sure to stop at Coconuts for some snacks and drinks!! Just beware of folks constantly trying to sell you something at every pit stop and all through town.

Wonderful Time

My family enjoyed our trip to Allegro very much. My husband and I had visited there about 9 years ago and enjoyed it just as much this time as we did the first time. The food was fabulous and the drinks were great!! We will definitely come back again.

Good place for kids

Lots of activities for kids. Rooms are small and the beds are hard. Service in dining rooms was good.

Beautiful Beach and Sunsets

We couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay for our family. The Allegro was the perfect spot for a long over due, relaxing vacation. We are beach and ocean people and absolutely loved it here! Spent everyday enjoying our spot on the beach until sunset, which were some of the most beautiful we have seen anywhere. After reading many reviews, both good and bad, I was worried. We found the room to be a little disappointing, but only because we requested a family sized room and didn’t get it. Being a family of four we were a little cramped. We didn’t spend any time there except for sleeping so we made it work!! The food as both abundant and fairly good. We didn’t try the reservation restaurants but heard the were just okay from other guests. Over all, we would consider staying here again. Cozumel is a beautiful island with many things to do and see if you are a beach and ocean person. Diving and snorkeling are some of the best in the world. My two daughter,ages 14 and 10 met and made lots of new friends. Kept themselves very busy which made for a relaxing time for my husband and I. Can’t wait to get back!!

We celebrated my husbands 50th birthday down the road at Alberto’s. The fresh seafood we had was fabulous. They serve what ever they catch fresh that day. We had a very large fresh crab, lobster, shrimp, conch, grouper. Returned a few days later and had a great red snapper grilled. Two of the best meals we had on the Island!!

Awesome Trip

The hotel is great for couples with small kids. My five year old and three year old loved it. They have activities for kids which was great. The rooms were good but the beds are a bit hard for me. The food was great. The drinks could have been better. Make sure you bring all your own stuff because the hotel store was way over priced. Overall we loved our stay.

Great Value!

This is the second time we’ve stayed at the Allegro. They appear to be rebranding it to be more kid-friendly, not something my kidless husband and I are interested in. Honestly, the increased kid’s activities is great because it keeps them occupied and not in the "adult" areas. The food was better than the last time we stayed there, and the service is always great! If you are a diver, you will want to stay here. Dive Palancar, the independent dive shop on the resort property, is the best!! Great service, excellent divemasters and plenty of well-maintained boats and gear!

Off the Beaten Path

While the hotel is fine for what it is, the ocean on that part of the island is not clean or clear.

nothing special

nothing special, it was a hotel on the beach. beast thing about it is that it was on the beach. Bad food, everybody tries to rip you off with exchange rates (especially in the hotel store). Just played american music, very dull daytime activities and dont offer much else to do.

Good experience overall

Bathroom was smelly (humidity, sewage). Otherwise, very nice experience. Being on the "Royal" section makes it even better !

Allegro Cozumel

The hotel is in a good location with a nice beach, pools, and palm trees. Employees of the hotel are very friendly. It just takes a long time at the front desk because there seams to be only one supervisor. Also, the buffet is understaffed because it takes a long time to get coffe or any type of drink, silverware, etc. The food could be better, too. The room are a bit smaller and beds are hard. But overall the hotel is great for families with children.

Traveler's tip

If you rent a JEEP to go around the island, don’t buy the gaseline yourself because you will be charged the wrong amount! Have the hotel fill it up for extra $3, total $15(gas and service).

Average at Best

This was an average resort. The room was small, toilet continued to run, tv antiquated, and door failed to lock many times. For the price, I can’t slam the deal, but I got what I paid for.

Give us native Mexican performers back !!! We are in Mexico !

It was our second stay here. It’s a nice place overall. The only really disappointing thing happened this time (as opposed to 4 years ago) is that the entire hotel entertainment was outsourced to some british company. So instead of expected native Mexican performers (yes, you came to Mexico!) you’d see some boring TV shows-like performances done by british teenagers, all uniformed in the same green or red T-shirts everyday. Nothing Mexican or Central American - no guitars, no flamencos, no bright colors etc. This was a bit frustrating. Local hotel staff are as usual very friendly and helpful.

would recommend, but with cautions

The allegro has a great kids slide and a shaded play area. A lot of partyers, not many kids this wk. all pools were open. We were here 2 nights. Went to the Mexican restaurant the first night. best shrimp here. 5 star pres, Large shrimp, grilled & kind of folded to look like a rose. we read a review of this place from shortly before we were there & the DH came home w bad salmonella. we didn’t get sick, but buffet food didn’t seem warm enough. small too, but this week weren’t many people there. It was bigger the last day, as a lot of families were coming in for Xmas wk. we did come home with was a bunch of bites. We only had a few while there and weren’t bothered by bugs much, but when bites started popping up on us a few days after getting home, I was near freaking out that we brought home some type of bed bugs or sand fleas. I shrunk our king comforter and scoured our bedding in hot & I’m glad to say, we don’t have any infestation here! The first morning, I woke up and there was some crumb or something on the floor and there were a bunch of tiny mites or fleas all over it. And my DH left a half eaten banana outside our room (2nd floor in a thatched roof building)& the same thing was going on there. My DH’s expression became, "It’s Mexico." The room was okay. We didn’t have a fridge. So, I recommend this hotel -if the price is right & you can’t afford more. We did love the free sailing, kayaking, drinks & nice beach. We did see rays snorkelling here &lots of fish.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Punta Sur. fairly shallow, but we saw a lot here.. barracudas, a couple rays and gorgeous purple reef fans. No turtles. It took us 2 hours to do the snorkelling path (we went out farther and past where others went, you don’t have to go this long). ate lunch at the small place at the light house! It was a great lunch. $30 we each had a plate of 3 chicken tacos and DH ordered nachos too, 1 or 2 beers and a coke. Beautiful surf coming in close by and iguanas watching us.

Good For The Price

This hotel was nice for the price we paid. The rooms we basic. Bed, TV bathroom and closet. Nothing fancy. Food was good drinks were better and the beach was awesome!

Definately where you would want to stay if you have little ones. Lots for them to do.

Stay was better in 2007

This was our second time staying at the Allegro. The first time was much better. The hotel is doing some remodeling which when finished it will be a good place for familys with small children but not the best place to stay with teenagers or no children. We had two rooms which we requested them together because one room was for our teenagers but the resort didn’t even try to put the rooms together, I could see this if the hotel was full but it wasn’t so we wasn’t happy about that. The hotel didn’t have anything going on to do, if you wanted to have fun you had to go down town. The staff was friendly is about the only thing this resort had going for it. Only one pool was open which we wasn’t told until we got there. They need to put on the web site that they are working on the resort so you will no before you decide to stay there. We will stay at a resort that has activities during the day. There just wasn’t anything to do at the resort.

Occidental Resort

The hotel in general was really good as it was last year. My only complaint is the bed. Its like sleeping on concrete. Last year as well as this year was the only complaint I have in regards to the hotel. Other than that, I would like to stay there again in may of 2009 when I go back but probably won’t.

Traveler's tip on shopping

The shopping is very good but even Better if you take the Ferry over to Playa Del Carmen.

Do not recommend!!!!

If you go take lots of mosquito repellent, fogging is hit or miss. Vendors allowed on site will rip you off. Tried to sell me a white gold ring, with fire opals and chip diamonds for $485. Actually the ring was Sterling Silver and diamonds were Cubic zirconia, worth about $150. Food wasn’t bad but little to choose from, drinks were weak at best. No night life and far from anywhere, $18 each way to town!

beautiful hotel

The hotel and service was great. The room was perfect and the staff was friendly. But unfortunately only one pool was open. The entertament and night life was not so impressive. It was more family orientated resort. Thats good for a family trip but for singles or couples not a good place to go. Unfortunately thats not what i was looking for.

We stayed at the hotel for 4nights and 5days. I would recommend this place to anyone. They had a great kids pool that looked like fun. The staff was amazing, very helpful and polite. The oriental restaurant on site was the best food by far!! Everything was beautiful.

Bring lots of bug spray!

a little disappointing

The kiddie pool blow horn was horrible - it rang at 9:00 am every morning and in 10 minute intervals. The bathroom sink was stained and looked dirty. The beds were very comfortable and the service was great. The grounds were immaculate and the rest of the resort very pretty and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The resort was taken over by the British visitors and all entertainment and activities were focused on them. The food was very good, however, I expected Mexican food and didn’t find any. There was a wide variety and always something different but, not what I expected.

Will go back to Cozumel but NOT to this resort!

Food was terrible, beds were hard and the whole resort shut down at 6pm.

hotel in general was good. problems were food preparation was poor it was always under cooked. drinks were always weak. you could drink all day and not catch a buzz.no night life poor shows and entertainers.
