A great Hotel near the airport in San Jose Costa Rica
We use the Martino for our tours. The hotel is nice, the location is excellent and if you are headed to Jaco, Quepos or other points on the central or southern coast of Costa Rica, this hotel is convenient since it is on the road you’ll be taking south. They call this road the Aguacate highway but it is not much of a highway. The hotel has an excellent restaurant, one fo the nicest gyms you will ever see and a great swimming pool. You will feel safe here and we have never had any issues, the staff is great and we continue to use it for our tours trip after trip.
Be sure to check out La Paz waterfall Gardens as well as Poas Volcano, both easy to reach from this hotel.

Hotel Martino
The place is beautiful but the casino closed months ago. I have ATT and no service there. The air conditioner works with a key you take with you so the room cannot be cooled until you are there with the key. The hotel advertises to make calls use your credit card , I did it cost me $14.99 the first minute and then 5 min rates, well my total was over $200.00 in phone calls I never knew it would be THAT expensive. It never told you the rates you only assumed it would be cheaper as you were using your card. It felt like there was only 5 guests in the hotel, it was dead there. I once went to the hotels restaurant 1/2 hr before it closed and the old man serving us appeared mad we were there before closing. One last thing the bed was very very hard, well kind of good for my back but most people might not like it.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
I recommend buying a calling card there as soon as you get there. They are available at the local store. We brought one in the equivalent of $6.00 it was great and lasted the whole trip calling back to the states.
