Great hotel

I really liked the Phillips hotel. It felt like an old-fashioned fancy hotel, not like the chain hotels a block away. Everybody was very helpful and courteous. Like the old hotels, there was someone there almost everytime to open the main door for us, and they always greeted with a smile. The room was spacious and comfortable. The location of the hotel is ideal: two blocks away from the Power and Light district (lots of great restaurants) and the convention center. Less than 10 minutes (by taxi) to the Plaza shopping district. Two blocks away from the bus stop. Only small complaints we had was that the bathroom door didn’t close all the way (annoying, but no big deal) and the service at the restaurant for breakfast was REALLY slow Sunday morning (we ended up leaving). Other than that, I would highly recommend this hotel.

Would stay here again!

I just love older hotels. The rooms are bigger than in the newer ones. Downtown KC was awesome too! The only disappointment we had was that the Springsteen concert was cancelled due to a death in Bruce’s immediate family. Other than that, everything was great, especially the stay at the Hotel Phillips!

Great Stay in KC

Beautiful hotel, very spacious rooms, good restaurant although we were disappointed in the continental breakfast included in our room charge. Had to go to another floor to get ice, which was a smoking floor-- halls had an extremely strong smoking odor. Our floor and room were fine. Parking is an issue and if you choose valet parking but need to get your car in and out several times a day tips can add up.

Love it

Get the executive if it includes the breakfast and valet. The breakfast was amazing for continental (and hot on the weekend). Also, parking is about fifteen a day if you park it yourself.

a charming older hotel

This is wonderful, wonderful old hotel with great staff. The hotel rooms are smaller than modern rooms, but very well kept up, very clean, and very convenient to the convention center. I love this place.

Hotel Phillips review

Hotel is dark, lighting is dim. Water pressure is very low. BUT all front desk personnel were exceptionally helpful.

Convenient Location

Hotel Phillips is at a convenient location to the Convention Center and other conveniences. It is a charming hotel at which I felt safe and comfortable. However, I think the housekeeping staff needs to pay more attention to the overall cleanliness of the rooms and not just making the beds and changing the towels. Overall, a good experience. Will go back.

Gorgeous Art Deco Hotel

Our stay at the Hotel Phillips was a very pleasant one. The service and attitudes of all the employees we encountered was A-1. Everyone was incredibly polite and helpful. The room was very lovely, and in great shape, taking into account a few quirks that come with being in a very old building. The location is extremely convenient -- just blocks from the Music Hall and Power and Light District. I would highly recommend Hotel Phillips (especially if you get a great deal, like we did)!!

Great Stay

Check in was quick and easy. We were to our room in no time. We got a really cheap deal through expedia that included free valet parking and free breakfast at a really cheap rate. Room was very nice and roomy. We went to the Power and Light District that night and was very close with a short walk. The staff was great at the Hotel and made our stay very inviting.

Check out the nightlife at the Power and Light. Also very convenient if you are seeing a concert at the Sprint Center.

will return

Very nice hotel. The only bad thing I have to say is about the size of the room. Very small, we also had a rollaway for our kids and we were extremely crowded. The bathroom was very small and dark. Other than that we enjoyed our stay. Nice that it was in walking distance of the Power & Light District and the venue to where we were in a wedding.

Impressive hotel in fun Power & Light district

We had such a great stay at this hotel! The staff were amazing, the hotel was beautiful, and the location could not be better. We were very suprised at how luxurious the hotel was considering the low price we paid for it. It’s 2 blocks from the power and light district, so it was the perfect spot for our girls’ getaway!

Great location -- eat breakfast elsewhere

The "complimentary" breakfast didn’t happen -- we were told the wait would be 20-30 minutes when there was obvious seating -- I’m guessing the Hotel figures most people won’t bother with the breakfast. We found a great coffee shop nearby. We love the location -- just wish the service/ accommodations would have been better!

Loved the hotel - stay away from the restaurant!!

We were going to a concert at the Sprint Center and this is a very close place to stay. Also very convenient to the Power and Light bar district - only a few blocks walk. We received continental breakfast vouchers with our stay - plan on going very early if you do use them. We went mid-morning and there was nothing left and they were very slow to bring more out. And when they did they brought very little. We had to go eat breakfast somewhere else. Otherwise, the hotel is fabulous with great service and I would recommend the hotel to anyone.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Great place to stay if going to the Sprint Center or Power and Light bar district!!

Excellent location, very friendly service

There were just a few nice hotels to choose from in downtown KC and the hotel phillips seemed to have the most charm. Expedia users were spot on in their reviews of this hotel, the great service was apparent from the moment you get out of your car. The valet was the friendliest ever and more hotels should realize this, as it’s the first encounter with a guest and a great chance to make a good first impression. All other hotel staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. The location couldnt be better for walking around downtown. I passed on the continental (although it was more food than normal) and was very happy with thier full breakfast. The room was nice, nothing special, but for the price it was perfect. Rooms show the hotels age a little but I think thats where the charm comes in. I will most definitely stay again. If you go to KC, this is where you should stay.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Gas and Light district is a block or two away, lots of bvars and restaurants. Seems like the hotel is aware of these reviews on Expedia so they will treat you extra nice if you book through this website.

Not impressed

Didn’t have the room we reserved, so had to downsize to a Queen. Valet took forever to get cars. Stain on the comforter. The toilet made an awful noise when flushed, but maintenance did correct that quickly. Internet is extra, just don’t get why that isn’t included in these higher class hotels. Breakfast buffet was not stocked well

Traveler's tip on local attractions

If you want to spend time in the Power and Light District stay at the Hilton Presidential. It is much closer and more convenient.

Good hotel in good location

The hotel was quiet and for the most part clean. The couch was getting a little run down, but everything else was kept up well.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Perfect location for hanging out at the light district. Plenty of restaurants.

Great place to stay

I was in town for a wedding and this was a great location. Valet parking was a safe choice for a woman traveling alone. Large room but the tub/shower could have been updated. I would stay here again if looking for somewhere in the downtown/ Power & Light District area.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

There’s breakfast available at the hotel, but there’s a wonderful market - Constantino’s - just a block away. Terrific bakery, fresh fruit, etc.

Quiet & Convenient in Power & Light District

This unique, historic hotel was very ideally situated in the power and light district, close walking distance to everything, but surprisingly very quiet. The staff was very friendly and the beautiful old hotel was a treat for a surprise getaway weekend with friends.

Great Place

the hotel staff was very nice and helpfull even though we didn’t use vallet parking the vallet told us where we could park and told us where the best parking garage was. We ordered room service and the food was pretty good, considering at 1am there is nothing in downtown KC that is open.

Great location

My wife and I were thoroughly pleased with our stay here. The bar and grill had a great breakfast buffet and a nice bar. The only issue we had (which was no big deal) was we had brought our dog and the closest place for her to go to the bathroom was a block away (and we were on the 14th floor). But we would stay here again.
