Great Location,Spacious Rooms, Helpful Staff

We picked SunSet Inn and Suites based on a guide book review and web reviews. It couldn’t have been a better choice. We stayed there prior to going to Victoria and again on our return. Both times we were upgrade to a larger suite of rooms. The rooms were clean and comfortable. They had a small kitchen and a dining area next to it. The continental breakfast in the morning was simple, cereal, bagels, bread, fruit, juice, coffee but that was not a problem as there were plenty of markets close by where one could buy other food to eat if you desired. Breakfast was in the hallway of the lobby and you had to bring your food back to your room to eat. This worked our fine for us since we had a fridge, toaster, etc. nice dinette set to sit at. You did not need a car to see the city. The public transportation is fantastic which we fully utilized. We like to walk an saw everything on foot. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There were a lot of restaurants close to the hotel. There was an excellent Greek restaurant (Stephos) around the corner as well as a Transylvanian pastry shop. If we were to return to Vancouver, we would definitely book at this hotel again.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

A car is not needed in the city center. Bus, small ferry boats, walking or bicycling is the best way to get around. There are a lot of small markets where one can buy fruit or even eat at which not only save money but are fun to try.

Sweet Hotel

This place was much nicer than expected. Great location, quiet, and really close to downtown- but not so close that it’s loud and crowded. Great place to start your long walking tour of Vancouver.

Perfect location

We were very pleased with the hotel; it exceeded our expectations. The free parking was a nice bonus. We parked our car and took walking tours from the hotel, as it is in a convenient location, near our favorite neighborhoods and parks. The staff were helpful, and we were upgraded to a larger suite. We ended up staying an extra night.

Extremely comfortable

We were very pleased with this hotel. Very clean hotel, helpful people at the front desk giving us information on places to eat, shop and walk to fantastic park. It was small and therefore quiet. A very pleasant place to stay. We’re hoping to go back with family in the future.

Traveler's tip on dining

Choice of restaurants were unlimited! All within a couple of blocks.

Very good price for this downtown Vancouver Hotel

My fiancee and had a reservation for one night, but then decided to extend our stay, as we really liked the place. It is in a very good location in downtown Vancouver, has parking, and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Parking in Vancouver downtown can be expensive. Here it is included in he hotel price.

Great value

This was a surprisingly nice hotel for the price. The suite was large and comfortable and the room finishes were quite nice - a big step up from your typical low-priced hotel. We had a water view - a room on the other side looking over the alley would not have been so pleasant. Once you check in, you receive a parking pass to park in their gated parking area; prior to that, there is no street parking and it’s difficult to even get to the hotel and park (one way streets, etc.) - we had to park illegally while checking in. That’s my only complaint, however. The staff was friendly and the rooms were quite nice.

Nice cheap place

Though the lobby is pretty nondescript, the room was very nice and the inexpensive price included parking. The hotel is about a block away from numerous restaurants on Davie St where I felt perfectly safe walking to for dinner. I definitely would stay here again.

Great place

We booked the room at the Sunset Inn because it came so highly recommended on this site. We had a one bedromm apratment complete with kitchen, dining area and bathroom. Lots of room! It’s right off a main drag with loads of restaurants, and minutes by foot or bus to just about anywhere in the city. The people at the desk were nice and helpful. I would stay here again for sure.

Great value for location

The Sunset Inn & Suites is located within walking distance of Vancouver’s English Bay seawalland Stanley Park as well as many restaurants and shops. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful with directions and ticket purchases as well as several excellent restaurant recommendations. The suites are comfortable with plenty of closets and a very usable kitchen with a dining area. The bedroom in first suite we stayed in overlooked the back alley and was very noisy very early in the morning. On our return, we stayed in a different suite facing the street front entrance and found the noise level greatly improved. A word to other travelers--while there is gated parking, getting a large vehicle into the underground lot would be virtually impossible. On our final morning we found the breakfast buffet (7-11 am)totally unstocked at 9 am and were referred by the front desk clerk in a most unfriendly manner to the housekeeping staff for service. This was the only such incident. For the price, this is an excellent find.

Can’t beat this in Vancouver

Great location, fine room, terrific people. We had an "executive suite" with a great view of the cityscape and the mountains (the other view is of English Bay). Large bedroom area, king-size bed, desk chair, nice TV and DVD player. Dining area with table and four chairs and a full, well-equipped kitchen, including full-size firdge, oven, microwave, coffee pot and kettle, tea-pot -- we’re talking Canada here. Bathroom was small but what are you going to do in there. Everything was very clean and new. Floors are new hardwood. Nice balcony with seating for two. and the rpice was good for downtown Vancouver. Terrific location. On the edge of downtown in a residential (apartments) area. Lots of flowers and lush plants. Two blocks from a beach and the aqua-taxi to Granville Island (don’t miss the wonderful farmers’ market and artisan stores). We walked everywhere. Six minutes to Chinatown, 5 to downtown, 10 to Chinatown, old Gastown and the football stadium and arena. An easy twenty minutes to Stanley Park (caution -- the walk back up a two block hill might stress an older person). The real gem is Davie Street one block behind the hotel. Dozens of low and moderate cost (this is a student area so the prices aren’t high) restaurants of every ethnicity. There was a line outside Stephos greek restaurant every night. Then there’s five or six bakeries - would you believe a Transylvanian bakery? And at least two wonderful groceries with tons of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Traveler's tip on dining

Wander down Davie Street for any kind of food you like. For a classy treat, check out Romano’s Macaroni Grill. Yes, it’s the chain but this is in an old mansion with beautiful grounds and outdor (The Winegarden) seating. This is the one place that was a little pricey.

Very, Very nice - and convenient location

After reading mixed reviews, we booked at this hotel anyway. What a pleasant surprise. Recently renovated with hardwood floors, granite counters, plenty of space and nicely appointed; we were very comfortable. Very close to everything downtown within walking distance, a few blocks from Stanley Park. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We’ll definitely stay there again!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

A lot of things to do within walking distance. Very good location!

Great hotel stay

You get a whole lot of space for your cash at the Sunset Inn. It’s usefully located right off of Davie St., a bustling road with lots of restaurants, and not far from beaches and the ferry to Granville Island. Staff was really very helpful and made our stay fantastic.

Vancouver’s awesome suite option

The one bedroom suite was awesome. The kitchen is a good size, the living room is large with two pull out couches, and the bedroom has a very comfortable kingsize bed. Location wise it was great. We rented a car and with free parking at the hotel we were able to get anywhere around town, from Grouse to Squamish to back out to the airport. Also many restaurants, bars, cafes, and markets are within walking distance. The Sunset beach is two blocks away and its easy to walk along the beach to Stanley park. Its a great place.

I would go back in an instant.

A small friendly suite hotel in a great location. You could walk everywhere. Wonderful large soft towel, pillows and duvet covers. It wasn’t fancy but it was very clean. After staying in large impersonal hotels, this one was a treat.

Full kitchen is great.

Excellent location and value

Spacious studio rooms with kitchens and dining area at an attractive price. Recent room renovations evident. Hotel nestled in a West end affluent residential area, just one block off of a major downtown street. Close access to public transportation, and 3 short blocks from a large public beach.
