Good location, brand name
My family and I planned a trip to the Mt. Rusmore area and decided to stay at this hotel because it was a brand name and we knew what to expect. This despite the fact there are numerous local hotels right next door. We ended up paying a bit more but overall I was happy with the choice. The hotel is right in Keystone, just two miles from the monument. Unfortunately we visited in mid-October so very little was open.
We visited Bear Country USA, which is about half-way between Keystone and Rapid City. Its a drive-through wildlife park. Despite a fairlr pricey entrance fee it was very fun and well worth it--especially since we went off-season (mid-October) and there were very few other visitors and we could take our time.

A Happy Surprise!
After driving over 600 miles that day we were road weary and tired. We werent expecting much and boy were we pleasantly surprised at how clean, nicely decorated and with such an accommodating staff! The location is close to everything and you need not drive for dinner or shopping. This was our first stay at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites and it is now our new favorite affordable hotel chain. We stayed at a different one (Coeur d alene, Idaho) the next night! We were almost equally happy there. The breakfast was prepared better at Mount Rushmore! Included with your room is a free continental breakfast that goes way beyond a stale piece of pastry and a bad cup of coffee. You really cant ask for more from a free breakfast. We werent traveling with children, but many were and the hotel seemed very family friendly. Speaking of children, one thing that I would suggest is if you can get a room on the top floor I would do so, then you wont hear people moving around over your head.
