one of the best city hotel finds anywhere in europe
Hotel Amedia, neé Arcotel, was a great find for me as city hotels go. It was very easy to find, just 4 short stops on the #9 tram from Mustek, a major Metro stop(and only 2 stops from the main train station). The #9 tram comes every 5 minutes; two other trams also service the hotel. From the tram stop, the hotel is straight up a small hill (less than a minutes walk). My 3rd floor room could not have been more comfortable, w/white down comforter, soft foam pillows and a nice view of the street below through large windows that let in plenty of sunlight There was absolutely no noticeable noise--and good cable TV with both CNN and BBC. Bathroom was roomy and clean--but bring a bar of soap unless you like using only shower gel to bathe. The real highlight had to be the generous breakfast buffet included in your stay--served in a gorgeous high-ceilinged room from 7 - 11 a.m. Delicious creamy scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon, grilled fresh tomatoes w/pesto, cheeses and charcuterie, yogurts, fresh fruit salad, several breads, pastries, donuts, croissants, butter, jam. There is even a sauna and steam bath on the premises! Every staff member I dealt with was helpful, friendly and spoke English. My request for an extra pillow and blanket were instantly supplied; I never tired of staying in this great medium-sized hotel during my 8 days in the Zizhov section of Prague. I will direct anyone I hear about who is going to Prague in the future to the Amedia--thats a promise!
Traveler's tip on dining
My only word of caution in staying at the Amedia is that it is not terribly close to any restaurants except for one good Pakistani one, but other places to eat are but a short tram ride away in town (which is close by). And there is a big supermarket just five minutes down the street where the tram drops you.

Great location and value
We have stayed at the Arcotel Teatrino twice in the past two years, and love it here. The hotel is clean, comfortable and the staff is friendly and professional. The breakfast buffet is perhaps the largest and most varied I have seen of any hotel in Europe. The hotel is located just a few dozen meters from the Lipanksa stop of the 5, 9, and 26 tram lines, making it very easy to get to. It is only two stops (a five minute ride) from the main rail station (Hlavni nadrazi). Although there is a steep hill from the tram stop to the hotel, it is a very, very short walk. Try to get a room off the street though, as it can be a little noisy outside at night.
Traveler's tip on dining
Mailsi is an excellent Pakistani restaurant right across from the hotel at the top of the hill on Lipanska. The food is utterly amazing!

Beautiful Hotel and Fantastic Breakfasts!
Beautiful, modern elegance, clean lines and colors. The rooms were relatively small, but very well decorated to make the best of the space and make it comfortable and inviting. The room had large windows that open - which I loved. I hate these new hermetically sealed AC environments. Having said that, being August, it was hot in the hallways and rooms, and there was no AC; so having the windows open all night was a must. However, our window faced a quiet courtyard, so this wasnt a problem. There is one complimentary internet computer in the lobby. Wireless is available at extra charge. Staff is very courteous and helpful, and very friendly (esp. by Czech standards!). The breakfast hall is gorgeous, bright and airy, with the an incredibly healthy and generous breakfast buffet. Access to hotel is easy - just 1 minute walk off a tram stop. Great value.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
The Prague visitors card (gold one) is worth it, if only because once youve forked out the money, it forces you to want to get your moneys worth and you probably do and see things you might otherwise skip. There is also this Nightlife pass (card deck for about $22USD). Its totall rubbish and a waste of money. The That card deck seems geared at British 20 year old men out to get drunk and get into strip joints and cheap discos for free or 1/2 price.... in that case, its probably a good deal.
