Short stay is Ok. Long stay no way.
Stayed at the Metropole from Sept 29 through Oct. 7 of 2009. The hotel is reasonably priced. The staff was extremely nice. Most of them could speak English. All the employees at the front desk and restaurant were friendly and helpful. The food was very good.. The room was clean and comfortable. However the colors were browns and tans. The lights were very dim. Even when I turned on all of the lights it was not bright in the room. My room also got very little sunlight during the day. I found this to be depressing. After nine days in this hotel I needed to make a change. I moved to the Rex Hotel and realy liked that place. When I return to Ho Chi Minh City in the future, I will stay at the Rex. I recommend the Metropole for a short stay of a few days. If you plan on a long stay, I do not recommend this hotel.
I recommend going to the Jazz Club if you enjoy jazz. They played classic Amercian jazz and blues music. The bands were great. The owner studied jazz in the US. He plays saxophone and is very good.

The hotel is a good value for what you pay. Don’t expect luxory, its just a decent economical hotel.

Satsified in Sai Gon
The Metropole Hotel offers value for money and the staff seems to understand the needs and wants of the Western traveller. The hotel is located conveniently close to many of Saigon’s attractions but more importantly the hotel provides clean and comfortable accommodation. The hotel’s restaurant is also quite good.
