Location, Location, Location
You will find that the Mercure Opera Garnier places you in the center of the action. It is within walking distance (by Parisian standards) of major sites such as the Louvr and shopping sites such as the Printemps department store. It is also close to the Gare Saint Lazare, a major Metro and suburban transit center. Best of all, it is on a street that is only one-block long, easing the task of telling cab drivers where you want to go.
Traveler's tip on dining
A mjaor benefit is the nearby Place de Madeleine, surrounding the Church of the Msdeleine. The circle is surrounded by notable, but not necessarily cheap, dining establishments. Particularly try out the Maison de Truffe, which specializes in truffles and is open late. During the day there is Fauchon, on two corners of the circle, with an enormous set of prepared and packaged examples of delightful foodstuffs.

Cozy tiny room with great location
I was expecting free internet connection but it was not free. For the high price we paid for a tiny room, it should be free. Also, I could not charge my computer battery for my entire stay even if I brought a converter. Then, I got power charged on my shaver. Hotel "looks nice" in terms of room remodeling but they need to fix power jacks. Other than that, location was good and felt ok with neighborhood. Very noisy street though. Paris is a dirty city with tons of heavy smokers. I missed clean air so much!
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Hotel charges about $20 for a continental breakfast. Walk around outside hotel, you will find local bread stand. Tasty cafe along with jambon would make your local breakfast. It is about $5.

Near very center of Paris
The hotel is located in a very special place, near Opera, Galeries Laffaiete, Madeleine Church, etc. The neighbourhood is very nice and quite. The room is clean and the service is excelent. The only aspect that did not enjoyed me was the size of the room: I was expecting something larger than what I have gotten, such others Mercure I have stayied in. The room at Opera Mercure Hotel is very similar to others IBIS rooms.
