I’m coming back soon!

I did not stay at the St. Tropez Hotel. It was closed. I stayed at the L’Hoste Hotel.

so-so hotel on the best beach

We has wanted to book hotels in Grand Case but the ones we wanted were booked up. Orient beach is the nicest beach on St.Martin so we decided to book a so-so hotel on the best beach. The beach really was nice and only a 30 sec walk from our room. The rooms are set up garden style. We had a junior suite, so it was a nice sized room but we had to walk up four flights of stairs. The tv was tiny and the reception was bad. The bathroom was large too, but the tub was half the size of a regular one and one side of the tub was raised so it made it a little awkward when taking a shower. But to be fair, for the price of the room and the proximity to the beautiful orient beach it was a great deal. We did go to Grand Case for dinner, which was great, but the beach was just ok. It’s narrow and very still. Overall, we were happy with the price point and general service of the hotel combined with the location. Be warned, the front desk is only open from 8-12 and 2:30 - 6:30. You’re on your own the rest of the time. The hotel provides beach towels, and free wi-fi in the reception area. And thats about it. There is a cute ’supermarche’ literally around the corner - we bought breakfast there every morning as well as wine, vodka, drinks etc. Very convenient!

Quaint little Hotel

This is a quaint little hotel that appears to be the other half of the L’Hoste hotel. They share a pool, restaurant and beach facilities. Great location with shops and restaurants right around the corner. Great value. The hotel has a retro-European feel. Overall pretty good condition, although the mattresses could be a tad thicker.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

There is a little store around the corner that has all kinds of sandwiches and supplies. Great French baguettes (The restaurants buy from them).

You get what you pay for

We stayed in another hotel close by on our honeymoon three years ago and we enjoyed it very much. When we looked to go back to the same one this year, forget it! Much too $$$. St. Tropez was a basic room with nothing fancy. We were not looking for anything fancy so it was great. They give you a guest card for towels, chairs, and umbrella at the beach which was a money saver. Local restaraunts were nothing great, head to Grande Case for dinner.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Bring cash, many restaraunts will take euro= US$ if you pay cash. Take younger kids elsewhere. The beaches are clothing optional.

Large spacious room

We had a very big room with one king-sized bed and two twin beds. The beds were hard, but fine. The hotel is only a minute walk from the Orient Beach, a very nice beach. We brought a lot of sand back from the beach everyday and the cleaning staff did a great job getting rid of it. Iris, at the front desk, was very nice and helpful.

Traveler's tip on dining

. Grand Case is the place to go to eat at night. Many great restaurants. Le Soleil had the most amazing desserts. Our favorite place was on the Cul De Sac. It was Le Ti Bouchon. A truly fabulous French meal. A nice plus is that their exchange rate is one for one. Also, D’Hercule, on Cul De Ssc, a traditional Creole place, was very casual, but had great food. My husband and I agreed that the grilled snapper was wonderful.

Great location on the beach but a bit pricey for what you got for your $

Hotel location was on the beach which was great. The room was spacious with a balcony, good AC and a kitchenette. The fridge was good to chill bottled water etc. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. I would stay here again. The room was nice & large but was basic. It is 2 star and functional but the price was more than I had paid for some 4 star hotels, so I was looking for a bit more. The linen cover on the bed was old looking and torn. The TV did not pick up any stations clearly and had grey stripes through all the channels but I didn’t come to watch TV so it didn’t bother me.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Great food / restaurant’s in the town square, just behind the hotel. Much better deal than eating at the hotel.

Better options are available

This hotel shares exactly the same room layouts and overall design as the Palm Court and the l’Hoste, which are in the same complex. Unfortunately, this one has just not been maintained to the level of the other two and corners have been cut where they should not be. For example, while the Palm Court and l’Hoste have very nice shower arrangements, St. Tropez squeezes in a very tiny tub with sloping sides that is uncomfortable and dangerous to use. At the beach, where you shower often, this is a minus. Instead of fitted sheets on the beds they have flat sheets, top and bottom that won’t stay put. The air conditioning seems to be the original 1992 vintage and is noisy. I could go on. Small things mostly, but still... All this said, the hotel staff was very good, attentive, and helpful making our visit very enjoyable. And the location can not be beat. Next time, we will try to get into one of the other two hotels first.

Plain, but convient to beach

Located in a quiet villa area, but in easy walking distance of beach, local shopping and restaurants. Rooms need maintenance (lamp not working, bathroom sink loose). The hotel is very hard to find with no signs.

great for family

We were making our trip to St. Martin with two small children, a two and a half year old, and a four month old. I e-mailed customer service to request a crib, and received a response from the manager immediately. She met us when we arrived, and personally escorted us to our room. She was extremely helpful and kind, and the room was very comfortable and close to the beach. If you are one who enjoys room service and all the amenities, this is not for you... but, if you like personal attention, friendliness, and convenience the St. Tropez provides all in abundance, for a reasonable amount of money.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Rent a car. Prices are better than in the states, and that is the only way to enjoy all the island has to offer. Visit all the nooks and crannies of St. Martin. With a car, you can enjoy the bustling cities, and very private beaches, all in the span of a few hours.

Great Beach, but very dated

This hotel is located on a great stretch of Orient Beach. The hotel itself is dated, but not that bad. The cable sucked, (only 5 channels) and only one was English, CNN, The movie channels were sometimes in English and Sometimes not, and subtitiled in Spanish). They are suppose to get rennovated this summer, if it does, it will be a great deal.

Traveler's tip on dining

There is a small restaurant area directly behind the hotel area which was really excellent. Also, it was close to walk to other restaurants on the beach.

good value for $

We arrived late, in the dark, and our room was ready for us and accommodations had been made for us to get into our room after the office had closed for the evening. The office does close for a couple of hours in the middle of the day as well, but we just planned for it. The room was spacious, clean and attractive (but not "fancy") and the staff very helpful and pleasant. There isn’t much of a "view" from the large balcony, but the sky and palm trees are beautiful and always changing! The safe worked. We asked for and got a 2pm check out as our plane didn’t leave until after 5 and the room wasn’t needed until the next day. The location is Great! It is in the middle of the beach (north/south), just a few steps from the beach and its bars and restaurants; and Orient Village and the Tap5 are just around the corner. We gave a lower score for the condition & maintenance of the hotel as the tiles around the tub were not in good shape (broken and some mold in the cracks), and the shower curtain definitely needed replacing. The daily housekeeping was very good. Our biggest concern and the reason for the "3" overall rating was that a broken lock on our sliding door (2nd floor), which we pointed out on our first morning there, was Never fixed - and we stayed 5 nights! Yes, we liked it...the price was right...would we stay there again....maybe! Will we return to Orient Beach...DEFINITELY!!!!

Traveler's tip on nightlife

While the bars and restaurants on this beach serve excellent fare, they are primarily there for the day-trippers. At night the place largely clears out. So if you are looking for a hopping night scene, this is Not the place! But you will find a wide variety of uncrowded establishments with great food and interesting international customers. We truly enjoyed being able to talk with people without having to yell over the band!

Quiet, convenient place to stay

There was nothing extraordinary about this hotel, but it was close to the beach and restaurants, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The lobby is open limited hours because there is only one person, but we were able to get all we needed during the open hours. Overall, we were quite pleased with the room and location.
