The Gainsboro Hotel should loose a star!

Gainsboro Hotel should loose a star My impression of the Gainsboro Hotel is based on my hotel room and does not reflect the overall condition of the hotel. For two days I was in constant contact with reception regarding (1) no hot water, (2) shower door was off it’s hinge, (3) soap dish missing in shower stall...there was no place to put your shampoo, soap, etc...and the space was too small to bend down and place it on the floor). I suggested that they should move me to a different room...which some were available...plus, they also own the hotel directly across the street...however, they chose not to do so, which I find was a major mistake on their part. I never saw anyone in their bar and there is not a restaurant in the hotel...they order out if you place a request for room service. Great area to be in...very walkable and convenient to the Tube Stop. The rooms in the back of the hotel overlook the play ground area of the French School, so there is a lot of nose during recess and before/after school. The reception staff was truly outstanding and very attentive to detail and being helpful...nice personal approach.

Traveler's tip on dining

Simply walk outside the door of the hotel and you will be surrounded by a wide selection of restaurants...try something new each evening!

Homely & French

Great situation if you are keen on museums and all things French- embassy , lycee and French bookstores/groceries/bistro are righ next door in the Institute Francais. Hotel staff were excellent and very helpful, maid service discrete and prompt.

Traveler's tip on dining

Lots of classy French bistros (mat 1/2 of Atomic Kitten there one evening!_)nearby. A very good fishmonger for carry-out sushi just around the corner as well as some thrift stres if you need to pick up a cheap raincoat etc. to use for your visit & recontribute to the good cause at the end of your stay. Tesco express nearby for picnic supplies.

Great location

Small, unique hotel with a great location, just across the street from the Natural History Museum; close to Victoria and Albert Museum, Kensington Palace, and more. Walking distance from So. Kensington tube station. Rooms are small but comfortable. Tiny elevator. Very pleasant, helpful staff.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Hyde Park, Natural History Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Royal Albert Hall, great pubs, tube station, Harrod’s are all within walking distance. Nice, tidy, safe location.
