good deal

This is a great value, especially if you want to stay in the shibuya area. Close to everything, and also with great views. Room is not very roomy, but has everything one could need. Just wish the room had at least a small little window to open for some air. Nice breakfast area up at the top. Would stay here again.

A terrific deal in a terrific location

We stayed in a three bed room, and all of us were surprised at how spacious it was. Overlooking the Shibuya crossing, the hotel is ideally situated directly across the street from both the JR and Metro stations. The quality of the service and the stunning views make this more than just a 3.5 star hotel.

Great space for Japan

Clean, convenient, relatively spacious rooms, on top of subway station, great shopping (both high and affordable) and amazing views from elevator/elevator area.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

This hotel is right atop the famous Shibuya pedestrian crosswalk you may have seen in movies such as lost in translation and tokyo drift.

Nice hotel

Room is nice, comfortable even my semi double room is a little bit small. You got a nice view of the City and Tokyo if you stay at higher floor. It is close to subway and metro providing convenient transportation. Staff are quite helpful and polite. I recommend this hotel.

Heart of Shibuya -- Really fun area

Room was small but had more than you needed. Service was great, friendly, and in English when it counted. If you got something like the 19th floor like us, you can see all of downtown below which is cool. The location was worth every penny.

Very comfortable hotel

This isn’t my favorite neighborhood in Tokyo(a bit too young for me), but I’d definitely recommend the hotel. We were able to get a room for four so we didn’t have to split up the family(a rarity in Japan). The room was large, comfortable and extremely clean, and had a Japanese style bathing room instead of just an ordinary tub and shower. The location is very convenient to the subway station (in fact, right above it)and there’s good shopping nearby according to my daughter. The exterior glass elevators let us end each evening with a panorama of Tokyo lights -- nice touch.

Right on the Green Line (JR), good central spot

I booked a non-smoking room at the Excel for 3 days. When I arrived, I was informed that there weren’t non-smoking rooms and they instead booked me into a smoking room. After 25 minutes at the front desk, she comes back with my room key and tells me to go upstairs and see if the room is "too smoky" for me. (I couldn’t get off the elevator the floor was SO smoky) I go back and they tell me that I have to stay in the smoking room tonight, move to a non-smoking floor the next night, but then return to the smoking room for the third night. This was a very expensive room and I informed the front desk that I will be looking elsewhere for reservations. They then told me to wait and they will look more. I waited in the lobby for another 45 minutes and the lady returned with a different room key and told me to try out this room. This mysteriously newly available room was on a smoking floor (it did smell, but not nearly as bad as the other floor) but on a ladies only floor. Other then the check in experience, the hotel was nice. You are given free high speed internet (which other hotels charge 12.00 a night and higher for). The location was perfect, the bed was comfortable, and the soundproof rooms almost worked perfect. A lot of extra amenities in the room as well. The housekeeping service was very nice! Just be prepared for a smoking room unless you are willing to wait for over an hour.

Traveler's tip on shopping

Shibuya is compact enough to explore in an afternoon, so jump on the green line to Harajuku and do some shopping there (not for the faint of heart! or those who do not like large crowds) or visit the shrines. If you go to the shrine across from the station on a saturday, you are pretty much guaranteed to see a Japanese formal wedding and processional.

convenient for subways, internet, and dining

I’ve gone back to Shibuya Excel Hotel Tokyu multiple times while on research travel. Conveniently located in the Mark City complex in Shibuya, connected to Shibuya station, the rooms include free internet access. Great dining within the complex (worth the wait at Midori-sushi) and nearby (check out the French cafe & bakery, Vitron down the street). Quick subway access to government agencies and business districts; for airport transport, the Airport Limousine Bus is best and stops right at the hotel. Staff are quite helpful (but don’t offer help getting your luggage up to your room). And if you need some greenery after gazing out upon buildings and subways, Meiji Shrine is a nice 20-minute walk from the hotel.

Great location

I could look down on Shibuya Crossing from my window! It’s a great location. Shibuya is definitely packed with people, but the train and subway (Shibuya station) is right under this hotel. I worried about getting off the train and lugging my big suitcase thru the crowds, but I was off the train and inside this hotel in a matter of minutes, without ever stepping outside. It worked out perfectly. The room was also quite large and comfortable. I would stay here again.

Will definitely stay again

The hotel is located in the Shibuya train station. The facilities are new and clean. The view from the rooms is spectacular. The only thing was that the hotel staff wasn’t very friendly in terms of helping us get our luggage up to the room, but other than that, our stay was great. There are vending machines (with food and drinks) and a small coffee shop in the lobby as well.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

This hotel is located in the Shibuya train station, which is in the heart of all of the shopping plazas, restaurants, and department stores. It’s a bit of a trek from Tokyo station, but the train ride isn’t too terrible. For those staying for a week or more, definitely invest in a Rail Pass!

Great find in the heart of the Shibuya

Great find in the heart of Shibuya. Adjoined to the subway station so very easy to get around. Serviced by both the Narita and Haneda Limousine Bus service so transport to/from airports is convenient. Mark City shopping center just floors below. In room high speed internet access is free, a definitely plus for buisness travelers.

Great Shibuya location

Great location right in the center of Shibuya with shopping and dinning. Front desk very polite, but not knowledgeable of surrounding area.

Traveler's tip

Rooms above the 20th floor have a good view of the area.

Great location!

This is the most convenient place to stay if you want to be in the heart of Shibuya. Being connected to the huge Shibuya station means easy access to JR and Tokyo Metro. Tons of food choices. The rooms are very big by Tokyo standards. Besides a king bed, there’s a square table, a desk, plus a vanity. Bathrooms are also larger than most Tokyo hotels. Only a few staff at the lobby can speak English so make sure you know who they are. There’s limo coach from hotel lobby to Narita Airport. Let them know you’ll be taking the bus and they will "check-in" your luggage and load them onto the bus for you.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Restaurants on street level are usually more expensive. Save money by choosing places up a few floors.

Quality Hotel

The hotel was clean, classy, comfortable, and in a very convenient location right across the street from the train and subway stations. But I felt less than welcome by the hotel staff - something very unusual anywhere in Japan. I couldn’t figure out why this was. Perhaps they cater to the business crowd? I didn’t even get a "Thank You" when checking out, and my Japanese companion commented how strange and rude this was. Over all, though, a nice stay.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Try getting a room facing Shibuya station and can spend hours watching the waves of commuters crossing the intersection of two main streets in front of the station. This is the shot almost always referenced when there’s a story shown about Tokyo on TV. I asked for one of these rooms but was denied. Not sure if it was because of the rate I was paying, or part of the apparent "attitude". At any rate, the elevators all face this direction and you get a great view to and from your room.
