Secluded Relaxation
We ended up staying 4 nights instead of 3 because we were enjoying Rasa Ria so much. Definitely take advantage of the many excursions and activities on offer. We did a boat trip to a stilt houses village, a snorkling day, and a few of the wildlife reserve activities. not as rustic as some of the accommodation on borneo, but it was nice to have a cool, clean home base between jungle trips. The food at all of the resort’s restaurants is ok, but not great, and much more expensive than local restaurants. Go into Kota Kinabalu when you can for a better, more authentic experience. overall, we felt pampered and relaxed and it was great value.
check for good deals, definitely worth paying the small premium for sea view.

shangri la transports
transportation, be it to town, to/fro airport or to elsewhere (seafood restaurant nearby) is too expensive.

Although nice, would not recommend for the price
Although a nice hotel, we would not recommend for the price per night. We stayed at the other shangri la hotel in borneo (several years ago) and remembered being bowled over by the service and quality of the hotel, even though quite expensive, the experience was excellent. We expected the same at this hotel and it did not feel that way, more of a big commercial ’everyday’ hotel, where all sorts of families were staying. We do not have children, but remember very few at the other hotel and expected the same at this. however as we only stayed 1 night it was okay. The restaurant food was very good.

If you love the wild this is the place to go!
This hotel stay along with the service was exelence at its best. So many things to so I hope you have a few days to stay. The resort is also doubles as a wild life reserve. Horse back riding, bird watching, orangutans, water sports, boating and so many other things. The only thing wronge about the place that drastically drops my rating is that there a 2 very nice pools but only one is open to everyone. Im not much for the sounds of happy screeming children when I’m relaxing on the side of the pool. The other pool is exclusive to the ocean wings guest only. If I would have known that i definetly would have booked my room over there.
Traveler's tip on shopping
Other then the reserve, beach and the multiple activities there. The only to remember is that this resort is about 30 minutes away from the city center where all the shopping is it will cost you about $30 to get there. So if your a city person and need shopping this is not the place for you.
