beautiful resort

We had a wonderful stay at the Riu Tequila. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable and rooms were clean, although they were not very sound proof. We could here the children in the room next to us. The resort is well maintained. The beach was just a short walk. We only ate at the buffet and the food was quite delicious. We were there to just relax and it was a great place to do just that. They had activities at the pool everyday. The entertainment at night was enjoyable. My only dissapointment was that most of the other guest did not speak english. I am one who likes to meet new people and that was kind of difficult because we only speak English. I would reccomend this resort to others.

Had a GREAT time.

Truly enjoyed my stay at the RIU Tequila and it’s sister properties. I liked that the RIU properties are in a gated community. This is my third experience at an all-inclusive and by far, this was the best over-all experience. I really appreciated and enjoyed the RIU hotel staff. They were happy and seemed to truly enjoy their job. Not even once did they hint at a tip or propina. I have been to another resort where the staff was constantly ASKING for a tip. The nightly entertainment can be somewhat cheesy, but is enjoyable none-the-less and the Michael Jackson show is quite good. The walk to/from the beach is no big deal and I actually needed and enjoyed the exercise. Some have complained about the "whales" in the ocean for erosion control, but they were not even an issue. They look kinda like big smooth rocks. I was fortunate to have a friend with us who spoke Spanish and this helped to alleviate some confusion at times. If I *had* to find a complaint, it would be for more/better top shelf liquers, but that’s about it. Keep in mind, this is Mexico; it’s gonna be hot and humid, so you need to get ready for it. BTW, it is $5 for a cab (1-4 people) from the Tequila to Playa Del Carmen.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

For some reason, sun screen is about 2-3 times the price as in the states. So, if possible, bring your own. Also, don’t bother exchanging money in the states. If you want to use pesos, the front desk at the RIU will exchange for you or you can do so in Playa Del Carmen. It’s about 13 pesos to 1 dollar, depending on where you go. I think Cozumel was 10-11 pesos to 1 dollar. Anyway, you can sometimes save a little money by using pesos or by using your credit card (mine exhanges it for you).

It was paradise!!!

Food and drink were excellent. Huge variety of food choices. Pool and beach settings wonderful with plenty of shade if you need it. Staff most friendly and did all they could to make stay pleasant. Grounds were immaculate. Would go back in a heartbeat!!!
